I stopped by LeBaron's today. The had an $800 kayak on sale for $450. It is a sit in model.

I just use a snap directly on the wire. In the vast majority of casts the snap will slide down to the R Bend where it belongs. I do occassionly have the snap slide up the spinner; but it doesn't happen often enough to bothered adding any sort of contraption to prevent it.

Yes, they have sucked for no reason in the other years. It still remains to be seen whether this is a rebuilding year or a year that they suck for nothing. With a new general manager, hopefully they can turn a poor year into an oportunity to someone that will help them in the future.

I have two kayaks. One is an inflatable, one is a small >10' sit in model. The inflatable is far more stable which is good for fishing. It is not a very fast kayak. I cannot keep up with my eight year old son when he uses the other kayak. You do get wet because of the width of hte kayak increases the amount of dripping inside; a longer paddle may solve this. I find the solid sit in kayak to be a little unstable for fishing. However, I am 6'4" and about 265lbs. A lighter person may not have a stability problem. This is something to consider if buying a smaller kayak. I think stability is more of a concern for fishing than just kayaking. The hard shell kayak is much faster. It is easier to tie a hard shell to the roof racks than it is to inflate the inflatable one.

Aren't waterways under federal juristiction? Would a bylaw even apply to harbour waters?

VHS is caused by a virus, not bacteria. When boiling water to treat for drinking purposes, it is recommended that you boil the water for five minutes to ensure that all bacteria is killed. I am not convinced that boiling them quickly will ensure that all bacteria, viruses, and parsites would be killed. I think the fertilizer idea is the best I have heard so far.

"When you are required to operate in a "4-Stroke Only" body of water" Do these "4-Stroke Only" bodies of water actually exist? Is there a single lake in Ontario that bans 2 strokes but allows 4 strokes? What about other provinces or even the states?

My guess is that it is a "put & take" lake that does not have suitable spawning habitat. The trout are capable of reproducing but didn't spawn in the fall because they could not find a suitable spawing area. Thus they still had their eggs in the winter.

An interesting read for F acebook users
John Bacon replied to Greencoachdog's topic in General Discussion
This reminds me of a time that I was at client for a GST audit. (I work for a company that performs accounting services for clients). As soon as the GST auditor left the sales manager called us over to his office. He had some Facebook pictures of the GST auditor. I only saw one of them; it looks like it was taken downtown somewhere, he was wearing a speedo. Appearantly some of the pictures were more revealing; I didn't see those... that is not where my interests lie. It still makes for a good laugh at the office. -
Large and Smallmouth Bass at No Frills

Probably farm raised fish. Assuming that the supplier is properly licenced, it is perfectly legal. Were the fish all of similar size? If so, that would indicate that they are farm raised fish. There are commercial fisheries operating on Lake Erie and Georgian Bay. There are also fish farms in Ontario. It is perfectly legal for game fish harvested by licensed commercial fishermen or farm raised fish to be sold in Ontario. -
I think there was actually a couple of different shows there. The first time I went it was actually a pretty good show, it oocupied the entire building. I went back a few years later and they were sharing the building with the flea market. They only occupied a small section of the building and it was a waste of time. The building where they were held is no longer there. I think that Andy Pallotta was the organizers of one of the shows there. He is now running the show at the International Centre. It was nice having a show in the east end, but I think three shows a year in Toronto is a bit much. I think that we might be better off with one than two.

Long term decline of the Toronto fishing show
John Bacon replied to scuro2's topic in General Discussion
This particular show is only in its second year. The Spring Fishing Show that used to be held in February has been amalgamated with the Toronto Sportsman Show held in March. Andy Pilotti created a new show that runs at the same time of the year and in the same location as the Spring Fishing Show used to run. This is not the same show that used to be at the International Centre in Mississaga. It's not so much that the show is shrinking; its a case of the new show not being as big as the old Spring Fishing Show. -
I don't think that is true anymore. Didn't they move production out of Aliston to the US to make room for increased production of Civics when the price of gas shot up?

Any Talk of Ontario Lakes Banning Two Strokes
John Bacon replied to GeorgeJ's topic in General Discussion
Setting standards for new motors has a similar effect to slowly banning the old ones. The older motors will gradually find their way to the scrap head; than almost all motors will be four stroke or clean two strokes anyways. There won't be enough of the older two strokes to be concerned about. Even a conventional two stroke from five or six years ago represents a huge improvement in polution controls over the motors from the sixties and seventies. There have been improvements in polution controls in the past. Unburned fuel is nw directed into the crankcase to be reburned. In the past in drained into the lake. The same logic that could be used to ban conventional two strokes today would have applied to the old two strokes of the sixties. -
Any Talk of Ontario Lakes Banning Two Strokes
John Bacon replied to GeorgeJ's topic in General Discussion
Evinrude makes E-Tec. The Mercury Optimax are also two strokes that meet emission standards. I think that is a hypothetical question since, to the best of my knowledge, there are no "non two stroke lakes". E-Tec (and Optimax) motors may or may not be included in bans that may occur in the future. If a by-law was passed the specifically banned two strokes, then E-Tec & Optimax would be included in the ban because they are two stroke motors. However, it would be more logical to ban motors that do not meet emission standards, in which case E-Tech and Optimax would be okay because they do meet the standards. I personally think it is unlikley that the old motors will ever be banned. It think it is more likely that standards will be set for new motors and the old ones will eventually find their way to the scrap yard. It is more likely that you will see lakes that ban gas motors outright but allow electric motors. I think this is already happening in B.C. -
Is there any particular species that you fish for? Baptiste is good for pike and bass; it also contains muskie and walleye.

Actually I don't think there would be any difference in the price of insurance between an '09 and an '06. The only way you will save on insurance is if you decide not to get collision. If you are borrowing that is not usually and option. The '09 may even be cheaper to insure. You should contact your insurance company before buying.

If you fired him for theft and then gave him a good reference, especially if you said that he was honest; it would make some sense to hold you liable. I am not sure what the actual legal ramifications.

If you are ever in doubt about an email from Pay Pal, you can forward it to [email protected] I would say that the one above is some sort of "phishing email" to get your account information.

In part because nobody imports building from China or Japan I do agree that bad management has caused most of the problems in the auto industry. However, they do face a different set of challenges than the construction industry.

I haven't tried it myself. A friend of mine says that it is great for pike and has perch as well. It was quite a few years ago that he fished it; I am not sure if it is still as good.

Actually pumps do compensate for temperature fluxuations. The pumps actually state that right on them that they are volume corrected to 15 degrees celcius. Also, I don't believe that the underground temperature fluxuates significantly through-out the day. Air temperature and the surface temperature will warm up through the day. However, the temperature 20 feet down isn't going to change much.

Actually a child under 20 pounds does not require PFD. See attached letter. http://www.salusmarine.com/transport_canada.html

I owned an old Bottom Line TBL 300 that I bought off of Karl Kalonka before he became rich and famous I believe it was a late eighties model. It functioned fairly well from 1994 to 2007. I have owned a couple of Eagles purchases brand new that did not last that long. The power cords did have tendancy to wear out but Bottom Line replaced them free of charge. Overall, I would say that it was good unit with great service. I think they have been merged with Humminbird now.

I don't think there was any safe ice on Baptiste as of last week end.
