  1. I am not sure if that would qualify for insurance purposes. They offered me $3,650 cash or $10k towards a new boat. I think it has to be a brand new boat to qualify for the full $10k.
  2. Unfortunately, the stormy weather on August 20th had an adverse impact on my boat's ability to remain above water. The insurance company has declared it a write-off. There is a silver lining, the insurance company will provide a little over $10k towards a new boat. I don't want to spend too much more than that. I am in Scarborough, I would prefer to purchase something fairly local. Does anybody have recommendations on dealers that I should visit or dealers that I should avoid? I have looked at the Legend 151 Angler on their web site. Does anybody have experience with this boat? Are there any other models or brands in this price range that I should consider.
  3. Permits are required to repave a driveway in Toronto. This is the first year that is being rigourisly enforced.
  4. I am not sure where he is, but I know that Scarborough only began requiring permits to pave a driveway in 2007. They have only begun to enforce it this year. So that comment may be unfair.
  5. Are in one of the cities that were amalgamated into Toronto? I.e. Scarborough, North York, etc. I am in Scarborough and I remember reading that Scarborough began requiring permits to pave driveways in 2007. The date that you have may be the date that permits became mandatory for paving, not when the by-law was created. It is only this year that they had the man power to enforce the law. A lot of people have illegal driveways in Scarborough because there was never any enforcement of the rules. I imagine that other former cities such as Etobicoke and North York are in the same situation. I am surprised that they would bother you now; I would have expected them to wait until you repaved to enforce the rules. Maybe one of the neighbors complained. To anyone else in Scarborough; the city now has employees that drive around looking for driveways that are being paved and make sure they have permits. We can no longer get away with paving in front of the house etc. Plan your driveway accordingly, and budget the extra $100 or so for a permit.
  6. "The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources said it supports the retail fish market approach, with the understanding that all of the fish are from registered commercial fishermen." I would assume that the above sentence quoted from your post would mean that only commercial fisherman are allowed to sell to the store.
  7. Will you have a canoe? Algonquin park has some paddle to sites that are a comprimise between dive to and interior. Their are water taxi's on Lake Opeongo that can take you to a site on the lake. The Cannisbay and Pog lake camp grounds in Algonquin do offer some somewhat secluded sites.
  8. There are many stocking sites scattered along the Canadian shore line of Lake Ontario. The US also stock them, I am not sure where their stocking sites are. Since all chinooks stocking in the lake in 2008 and 2009 were clipped, I would say that yours was almost cetainly a non-hatchery fish.
  9. Actually, starting with 2008 stocking (from the 2007 egg collection), all chinook salmon stocked in Lake Ontario have their adipose fin clipped. The adipose fin is the small fin located on top of their body slightly in fron of their tail. Most of clipping is done automatically by machine loaned from NY state. Pen reared salmon are hand clipped because they are stocked before the clipping trailer from NY gets here.
  10. Having a "wench" on the boat can be nice sometimes...
  11. That statistic is really quite meanless. It is what I would refer to as a "half of statistic". In order for that information to be of any use what so ever we would have to know both the percentage of people who wear PFD's and the percentage of drowning victims who were wearing PFD's. Even then it would have limited use if no stats for size of boats and whether conditions, etc. were not factored in. Based on your information, 15% of drowning victims were wearing PFD's. If, 10% of boaters wear PFD's and 15% of victims wear PFD's, that would indicate that wearing a PFD makes you 50% more likely to drown. On other hand if 30% of boaters wear PFD's and 15% of victims were wearing a PFD, that would indicate that wearing a PFD makes you 50% less likely to drown. Knowing that 85% of victims were not wearing a PFD without knowing what percent of boater were wearing a PFD is 100% useless information.
  12. I dissagree with that statement. Life jackets are far more uncomfortable than seat belts. Life jackets interfere with me getting a tan... or are you going to make that illegal too? Life jackets make me feel much hotter on a humid summer day; a seat belt doesn't make any difference in my air conditioned truck. I have climbed back into my boat on many occasions... its cheaper than buying lures from a tackle store Climbing back into my boat after falling out would be easier than climbing back into my truck after being ejected through the window. I have been boating longer than I have been driving... I have been in car accidents, I have never fallen out, or tipped a boat. I drive to get from point A to point B; I boat for recreation... I don't think you can really compare the two. I'll stick to making my own decisions about when to where a PFD.
  13. They should definitely not be mandatory. At least not for adults. If it is a nice hot sunny day I don't want to be wearing a life jacket all day. I think I can make that decision for myself.
  14. Or, if you are any good on photoshop you can just make a new card. There is no registry, there is no standard format for the cards; thus, there is not way for a cop to tell if a card is legitamate. The boaters card is the worst piece of crap legislation that I have ever seen.
  15. I suspect that the motor is binding when under pressure. This would explain why the motor is easy to turn at rest but difficult while you are underway. I would recommend having it checked out by a dealer while it is under warranty. How was the fishing on Baptiste? I caught a 32" pike near Blueberry Island last Satruday.
  16. As long as the business does not have an Ontario location they do not have to charge PST for shipments into Ontario. I would assume that the B.C. shop does not have an Ontario location; so you should be fine.
  17. I don't expect much of a run this fall. The 2007 fall run was the last run of MNR stocked coho. Metro East Anglers resurrected the coho program when we took over operations of the Ringwood hatchery. The offspring of the 2007 run were stocked in 2008. We did collect eggs in 2008 as well and will stock them this fall. The 2008 runs were quite small and collecting enough eggs was a challenge. I expect a couple more lean years before we start to get good runs of coho's again.
  18. They were stocked in 2008 as well.
  19. $999 USD plus shipping is "next to nothing"??? Are there any other items that you need? I would be glad to sell you some of stuff for "next to nothing" Just wondering, can you control which direction the camera points on these devices? If I was spending that kind of money I would certainly want to be able to pan the camera from side to side so that I would be ensured of being able to view the in the direction that I wanted to see.
  20. There are some loopholes though. The list does not apply to politicians or charities. There have also been issues with calls from foreign companies which are not subject to Canadian laws.
  21. When you say the "northwest end" are you referring to the area towards Elephant Lake? If so, that area is quite shallow and will not hold lake trout. The south basin of the lake is the deepest area. That would be your best bet for lake trout. There is a steep drop off along South Baptiste Lake Road. That area out to Milliona Heir (Herchel Island) and the mouth of Dog Bay would be your best bet. Don't forget to check the exceptions in the reg's. Baptiste has a slot limit and a short season for lake trout.
  22. Yeah, 8 pounds would seem more reasonable than 8 kilos... Maybe they double converted from metric to imperial.
  23. Muskies have pointed tips on their tails, pikes tails are rounded. The corners of the tail in the picture appear to be rounded indicating that it is a tiger rather than a pure strain muskie.
  24. You can try Rerries on the south side of Kingston Rd. east of Morningside Ave. They carry bait.
  25. The civil trials were done first because the parents were more concerned about striking it rich then they were about the wellfare of their children. I don't know whether or not he ever abused those children. However, I am pretty sure that the parents had the lawsuits planned out before the children ever visited Michael Jackson.
