  1. Hey Rich...I use the bank stix I purchased from New World Carp in Hamilton (very sturdy and adjustable for height)...On the one in front one I screw on an alarm and on the back one I screwed on a holder...these also can be purchased from New World Carp...To get around fishing on concrete. I built a pod out of a four foot piece of 2"x 6" spruce and drilled a hole just big enough to hold the bank stix snugly...see blow: Stephan (owner of New World Carp) also has a forum on www.carpfishingcanada.com ... Check out their classified section...guys are always buying and selling stuff
  2. It's a long delivery to Roy's place Cliff...
  3. Besides nearly drowning (thanks to Albert) I think it funny how I got used to using the bait runner I was given by a good carp fishing friend of mine... In the excitement of the moment when I got my first run, I just grabbed my carp rod and and set the hook resulting in a massive bird's nest...Nothing like trying to fight an angry 20 pounder while untangling a backlash...did I learn anything?...nope...same thing happened 3 more times...On my 5th run, the guys I'm with stopped me in time to remind me to turn off the "free spool" before lifting the rod off the bank stix...Here is the result (I've caught bigger since but this one was memorable):
  4. Yep...Tried this and the stainless bar with success...also toothpaste and ketchup...the latest I heard of was used coffee grounds...will give them a try...
  5. I then ask them if they know my son Michael who is with Microsoft (true) and that I use their security program that he installed on my computer... "Sorry to bother you" and a quick hang-up on their end...
  6. I saw this on Facebook and am posting here for any new members who might be wondering what it is all about... Tyler is 17 years old and was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder when he was 3 years old. Tyler lives in Innisfil, Ontario with his mother Elisa, father Terry and little sister Tiffany. Tyler attends Grade 12 full time in a life skills class in Alcona Ontario. Tyler requires extensive therapies which his parents struggle financially to provide. These therapies include Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Fishing for Tyler is an Ice fishing fund raiser that was started 10 yrs ago to help ease the financial burden and provide Tyler greater opportunity to learn and communicate. At age 6 Tyler was removed from a waiting list to receive funding for IBI/ABA and other therapies. At that time it was thought people living with Autism could no longer benefit enough to warrant the money these therapies cost. After a lot of fighting by the parents of those living with Autism, the age was raised, and Tyler once again was on a waiting, list....near the bottom. Over time he did receive funding from various sources, not the least of which was the Fishing for Tyler fund raiser. Tyler lost his government funding in August 2013. and no longer receives IBI/ABA therapy due to the high cost. Tyler learns and grows every day, I have seen the changes in him over the years, and he will continue to learn and grow, and thrive as long as he is able to continue receiving the therapy he needs. This year is the 10th anniversary of Fishing for Tyler, and has gone from a small group of about 25 people, to over 200 people attending. People from all ages and abilities come out and enjoy the day, from Tyler's 97yr old great grandmother to one and two year old infants and every age in between. No special equipment is needed, and no special skills. If you don't fish, no problem, come out and enjoy the day along with a BBQ lunch, enter the prize draw and walk away with a smile, knowing you've helped make a difference in someones life. 10th Annual Fishing for Tyler Fundraiser Tyler French lives with Autism Raising Money for Speech and OT Therapies Saturday, February 22, 2014 Innisfil Beach Park Boat Launch Registration: 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., last fish measured at 1 p.m. Cost: 16 years of age and over - $10 minimum donation kids free - donations appreciated * A fishing license is required for those between 18 and 65 years of age* Enjoy a BBQ lunch cooked on site Cost: Donation Prizes awarded for largest whitefish/lake trout and largest perch - lucky draw following Directions: Hwy 400 or Yonge St. to the 8th line (Innisfil Beach Rd.), east on Innisfil Beach Rd, to the end, turn left into the park, follow the road to the right, past the snack bar to the boat launch. 7. You might want to check your top guide with a q-tip...that may be why your line gets frayed...
  8. I spoke with Maureen earlier and she asked me to post that she will be attending the Tyler event and will be there early to help set-up and meet-up with her friends...

  10. Thanks Cliff, Joey and Gerritt... I was able to upload my Tyler G2G folder to Photobucket...it contained a piss pot full of pics (217)... Hopefully she will be able to copy some from there... I receive slideshows of stuff often via e-mail but can't figure out how to e-mail a slideshow that I created...Anyone ???
  11. I believe it only applies to those with central heating/air conditioning... As you know...the more energy you save, Hydro will raise the rates so their cash flow will not suffer...in otherwords we will pay more for less energy used...Bandits !!! Last month my bill was approx $600...even though I used 14 kwh less per day compared to my bill for the same period last year $500...Bandits I say...Bandits
  12. Just had my propane tank filled today...$1.129 per litre... Last fill-up on 31 Dec 2013 the price was $0.885... Last year it was $0.649 (30 Jan 2013)... Today at Curve Lake, regular gas is $1.139...a penny more than propane...
  13. Received this e-mail this morning: Hey Norm Can you post on OFC that I lost all my Photo's from past Fishing for Tyler events? I haven't been able to access OFC since I got Explornet . Maybe you could share my e-mail privately with those who have some to share. Also, has there been much interest in the event on the board yet? Thanks -- Maureen If anyone can help, please PM me and I will give you her e-mail addy... Cheers Mate...Beans
  14. You are not too far from either Lake Scugog or Rice Lake...
  15. I guess you are not referring to carp fishing in Little Lake, Peterborough...
  16. Hey Cliff... You forgot to post this picture: You can hide but it will find you...
  17. And you don't have to heat it...And you will be close to Louis Pappas restaurant...And etc. !
  18. Amen to that Cliff...we only get the odd bush cord for an emergency fire or an entertainment one...even chopping kindling is too much of a chore these days... Don't get old guys...it hurts too much...
  19. I've mainly used the palomar knot for most instances...but I like the rapala knot for my crappy jigs as the loop gives it a bit more action...
  20. They are also telemarketing...we got a phone call the other day...Grrrrr
  21. My last fill-up was on 31 Dec 2013...$0.885... Going to need another soon...
  22. Oh how I envy you...Enjoy my friend...Enjoy !
  23. Tomorrow, Sue and I are going to look into renting a condo down here for next season, there are a few factors that we have to check into; health insurance for two old folks probably being the most important one but I am thinking we might be able to buy private health insurance from a US based company, we'll check into it (anyone have any experience with it). Anyway, still no pictures for you guys, I have been on the go for about 17 hours now so it is bed time for this old man. Thinking of all of you and wish you could all be here with us! Will try to post some pictures tomorrow. BC Funny you mentioned this...I was doing some fantasy shopping for condos near Clearwater and there were two or three in the Honeymoon Island area for $109,000 to $129,000 but no mention of what the condo fees were... I just googled Florida real estate and checked the mls listings for the Clearwater area (expensive) but I looked further north above Dunedin...(reasonable) Do you think I am getting sick of winter ? I forgot to mention (it's me age ...don't ya know...as Jack used to say) if you have the time, have lunch at Louis Pappas Restaurant in Tarpon Springs...Split a Greek salad with Sue (too much for one person if you also have an entree...They're famous for their Greek Salad and fish dishes...The boats unload right at the pier behind the restaurant...After lunch take a walk down the road beside the canal/river and take in the old sponge museums...very interesting...
  24. I was reading in the local "Promoter" that The City of Kawartha Lakes is still studying the problem of the feral cats...not that they are doing anything about it but they are still studying the problem...(For the past four years)... Remember how long it took for them to fix your bridge down the road ?...I think it is the same commitee...
