Ron works on his Fish Cleaning skills
esoxansteel replied to Michael_Brown's topic in General Discussion
If they would have extended there arms more for the picture taking, instead of the bend in the elbow they likely would have won, they always look bigger that way -
Put king kong bundy on the front to keep the bow down, also old motors had their hp ratings at the powerhead, newer motors are rated at the prop

Weiging fish usually will cause damage and sometimes death, the larger the fish the more harm it will cause, also lip hook hanging bass off a weigh beam to find which one is bigger for the weighin damages bass at a 2 to 1 rate, for the fishes sake do a quick measurement preferably in the water and guesstimate the weight from your measurements the fish will thankyou, and you will become quite good and accurate at fish weights with practice.

Hey Bud you caught Will as in Willski, he usually likes to spend his time over by the graveyard, its much more quieter there occasionally he heads over to the 18ft hump, betwwen the fountain and the green marker bouy to dine on fresh smallies and walleyes, did spot him over on the west side this year checking out the Chilliwack concert as well, but it was too noisy so back over to the east side where its much more quiter around the graveyard

The Chinook run in the Ganny is larger then the spring steelhead run, in some years almost double the number of fish, and it was last stocked with chinooks in 1969, so it looks like a combination of natural reproduction, and stupid fish who dont know how to imprint on the rivers where they were born
-
Your selection is good, but choice of baits will depend on the types of river you choose, faster flows vs slower flows experiment as different baits will work on different days etc, also choice of color will depend on the clarity of the water as well.

If you say you watched him for 4 hours, and hes choken his chicken, hes jacked up on cialis or viagra, and hes smiling like a cheshire cat

Stony is a great lake keeping between the markers will keep you safe, but to catch fish you need to explore, a GPS will help, but theres more sholes that are not marked than are marked, the north end of the lake is safer for travel and holds the deepest water, once you go through beaushein narrows the water depts change and the structure becomes more prevalent, depending on what you targeting ie walleyes dont be afraid to fish deep in this shield lake, up to 50ft. is common.

Was ice fishing Simcoe, and a medium freezer bag stuffed with bud blew by my hole with the wind, picked it up, opened it up, boy it smelled good, took a very quick look around, and I mean very quick look, couldnt see the owner, so finders keepers loosers weepers, you know the story, it made the 7 inch perch I caught that day not that bad at all

Great catch folks, and its nice to see a big fish been held the right way, instead of the Bass guys with the arms out vertical hold, with the jaw bent -
Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod
esoxansteel replied to SirWhite's topic in General Discussion
I have the 7ft compre muskie spinning rod, with a symetre 4000, spooled with 80lb, use it for pitching jigs, reapers etc, and stick baits, its tough and will handle muskies and get them to the boat quick, its technique specific, and use it about 10% of the time, 90% its baitcasters though, would not recommend it as your first and only muskie stick, as its use is limited -
Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod
esoxansteel replied to SirWhite's topic in General Discussion
would you go to a gun fight with a knife, fishing muskies with tackle not suited for muskies, prolongs the fight of a very delicate fish, and will definately increase the chance at mortality, by building up accessive lactic acid, incidental muskie catches will occur with anglers fishing other species, but do not concentrate on muskies without the proper gear -
A quote by a truly great individual, I did not vote for the party, but I respected Jack more then any other of the political leaders, I would not want to be in charge of filling those shoes, a down to earth man, who would standup for what he believed in, and not back down, a sad day for all Canadians, regardless of political preference. To be able to write a final letter to all Canadians, knowing that he will be leaving us, we all owe Jack his final wish to make Canada a better place, and to continue the legacy he has started.

You think thats bad, wait till the rednecks and flossers come out for the annual chinook fest, earplugs, and empty marshmellow bags and garbage everywhere, not to mention discarded chinook carcases

Chandos is closed for winter fishing, fished it once last year for a week in late July out of a cottage on Gilmour Bay, picked up one of the adventure maps, and scouted the first day marking structure and putting in waypoints, caught ample smallies up to 4lbs with average around a pound and a half, Big Pike had moved to deeper water by then but caught several small Pike off weedlines, spring is the time for big Pike on Chandos as they are up higher in the water column, and stickbaits on and adjacent to rock shoals produces, look at the deeper lake trout water you will see baitfish and hooks around them, dont be afraid to vertical jig with spoons and white tubes as well for the lake trout, natural colors worked the best browns greens motoroil etc for plastics, and the cotton cordel Big O in brown and crawfish color was the predominant crank again for smallies.

Check out their On through the Night album, which I believe might have been their first when they came across the pond, I believe Rick Allen(drummer) was 15 or 16 at the time, and I was in high school grade 9 to be exact and im 48 now to give you an idea of the time frame. It was more heavier then their made for the public sound of recent

Cheers on the Atlantic, I think I will pour a fine glass of Banrock Station wine to celebrate

Yes I call it the shimano bump, and I had then do it from the saharas up to the stellas, on the higher end reels noy sure about the symetres there is a red gasket on the bottom of the rotor head that can get out of shape causing the reel to stiffen, also the bump im refering to is a dead spot when the slowly reeling in as in draggin a tube, or fishin a walleye jig slowly, once the side plate is removed and the main gear is moved a couple of teeth it will work for a bit and do the same, its a shame that so many parts are made offshore, the tolorences are just not there, but dont worry as a previous thread mentioned shimano will only stock parts for a 5 year period, that way it forces you to by more of that junk, or get smart and look elsewhere, if shimanos pro-staff had to you their equipment for over a year, like most of us, they to would realize what junk they have to say nice things about

In case you were wondering, im an exterminator, and have delt with pharoah ants and other pests for over 28 years, so the previous post, is essentially the way I handle pharoah ants if you have any other questions feel free to pm me

heres some good info, with pharoah ants you should never use chemical sprays as that will scatter the colony and will cause the ants to set up satallite colonies, or multiple colonies within your home, most if not all ant baits, are too strong for tiny pharoah ants, hense ants are social insects and readily feed one another, with those baits been too strong they do not have a chance to feed on another, so heres what you have to do buy a little bottle of liquid ant drops which will be 5% boric acid and liquid sugar, usually a little white bottle with a red cap, and also pick up a jar of mint jelly, you than have to mix the mint jelly with the ant drops but it MUST have no more than 1/2% boric acid, so you really have to cut down the concentration of the boric acid, that concentration will allow the ants to socialize and feed each other, and you will eventially get them all, do not give up as they are tough to get rid of, and do not be disappointed if and when you start to see more, as they start to forage on the bait you made up, also very important make sure their is no other food souce available to them as well, ie dirty dishes left in sink, counter spills, etc as this will give the pharoahs other food sources, you want them to feed on the mint jelly/boric acid mixture only, you can put the bait in areas where you are seeing them, always read the label on the ant drop jar for more info, I would put the bait in small clean caps ie beer caps, and monitor which ones are showing the most activity, then you can add more bait placements to the areas showing the most interest, keep baits fresh at all times, changing every day or every other day. good luck I would have pm you but this is good info for anyone else who is experincing pharoah ants, are you 100% sure they are pharoah ants, as thief ants are very similar in size and color, and a microscope would be needed to verify which ones they are, regardless you would use the bait mixture for both ant species.

As with all wood baits each one has its own charactor, I have 3 blaze orange dark gold side suicks, each one is different, one has had its ass chewed so much the paint is wore off it, hooks and cotter pins have been replaced multiple times, and its absorbes so much water I can verticle jig with it One thing I do on some is to paint the metal tail black, when fishing in bright sunny skies to eliminate the reflection, on overcast days I use the natural unpainted tail Also as ccmt mentioned they are great for speed trolling as is the bobbie bait and the sledge, with the suicks I remove the back hook, and add a hook half way betwwen the middle and back hooks, using a 2 hook setup instead of the factory 3, makes unhooking easier and also less damage to the fish, and 2 hooks vitually eliminate fouling up on the metal tail piece and the 3rd hook which is removed, also prefer the weighted models myself, adding more weight until their bouyancy is neutral on the pause
