Thats correct Manitou, wrapping the braid around the bare collar before any hair is added, and half hitchin and then epoxying, the knots rest tightly against the point which secures the grub, or in this case hair to the jig body, and the stinger sits hidden in the SHORT SPARSE hair. This way I can make the stinger the length i want to fit my style of jig, instead of the store bought one that are all the same length in the package ie 3 to even 4 inches and usually with a small treble hook, Its not rocket science Gerritt, and its not mumbo jumbo its a little hard to describe, but i tried to explain it the best way i could.

See if your big hairy black visitor will help out, seeing your giving him free board, maybe add some honey to spice things up a bit Lew

I was finding last Sunday at least some very lite, short strikes, did manage 6 fish on the jig, but had triple the hits, i recitfied that by adding a #2 mustad Ultra Point short shank, and half hitching around the collar 4 times and epoxying the hitch knot. then adding the stinger hook with a snell tie, and then tying the hair or building the jig afterwards, hook percentage went up to 75%, with the stinger picking up 50% of the fish on tuesday, If anyone is experiencing short strikes on hair, add a stinger

At least they didnt throw apples at you, at the Ganny many years ago, a guy went down the trench and caught everyones line, but wasnt long taking off when Folgers Coffee cans full of roofing nails were bouncing off the side of his Boston Whailer, I was there but couldnt take the credit for that one, -
Way to go Manitou, and the 4 wise men, paying respect to one of Gods creations, when one group of civil servants would do nothing, and the other through the carcass 10 feet off the tracks and left.

Drove from Wilmot, to the Ganny with a new 13 foot Loomis IM6 i had just built over 20 years ago, forgot all about it on the top of my work truck, didnt realize it until i got to the stumps and it was still sitting there, wedged in the roof rack, fished it hard after that, then sold it and its still in use to this day, so it obviously did not damage the blank on the 20 minute drive on the 401,

Great to see kids getting up close and personal with the Sturgeon, as they will be the future care takers of our Natural Resourses, Miigwech for the great report Manitou -
As for fly rod weights its better to be over gunned then under gunned, go big or go home, and when you have put all the time and effort to book a world class trip, not to mention the money, your bang on with the 8 wt and even a 9wt, you see TV shows where they recommend 5 and 6 wts, but if the rivers are high and flowing your pooched with those outfits. Im running a 9 and 10 wts right now throwing streamers for river walleyes.

Should have read further before reporting, and combining Mikes and Garnets thread and repeating whats already been said, Back then we had Dave and Arnold who were the area biologist who actually cared about the resourse, and spent many unpaid hours working at the ladder along with the dedicated members of the GSA, and they were there on a daily basis during the steelhead run.
-
They closed off the lower Ganaraska River in the mid 1980s when the entire run was below Corbetts dam, it can be done, with a little effort, and the run was over 15,000 then, at least theres some fish blowing through the ladder now, to at least spread then out
