  1. Got my 12 footer for $50, fixed it a bit, sold it for $75 and then bought a 14 footer for $200. They're out there!
  2. agreed. Top water: Buzz bait Mid: x-rap Bottom: Jig and Mr.Twister
  3. Another option? Buy a cheap sportspal for $200 and you'll be in business no matter where you go.
  4. Can't have input on the things they keep hiding from us Your right though.
  5. http://www.wbea.org/ This is who I worked for. Lots of good reading, data reviewing, projects to go through here. WBEA are basically an "independant" group that is funded by governement, industry and other local groups. They monitored the area quite thoroughly in my opinion, within their mandate. The problem is, you can have 1000 pages of PROOF of contamination and the government has little to no resources, power, want, historical supporting data or public support to do anything about it. There are 1000 other pages that will contradict the proof...lobyists, sceptics, bad science, good science... and as soon as the governement jumps in, usually late, people say "oh, they are doing it wrong and wasting taxpayer money". And the hamster runs, and the hamster runs. There's no clear direction when it comes to the environmental direction in Canada. We should be looking to California for ideas...we are at least 20 years behind the US in terms of research, legislation, green industry etc... not all of the US, of course, but overall we are way behind and this leaves a lot of room for decisions based on bad/no science. I'm sure this is an incomplete thought.... but i'm not writing an essay here.
  6. You got that right. I left school a green-eyed, pseudo tree hugger and landed a job in Air Quality in Fort Mac. Within 6 months, the green in my eyes was not for the environment. It was a stunning reality check overall.... it's very tough to be a defender of the environment, especially when facing people who rely on pollution to earn a living. This does not excuse a government with very little creativity, however; they should be setting the example, not trying to cheat and lie and sneak things past us. Maybe we should have voted for Stephan Dion and his "green Plan" haha, Boy, did that ever tank the Libs.
  7. Well obviously. We all know how long serious issues last as topics on OFC. Hockey is one of the nf things people here can banter about without getting a locked thread in two days.. Jeez, even the ice floe threads are disappearing. I completely agree that we need to support our natural resources to keep them natural...NOT to give them away. Water in the ground is worth much more than water in a bottle, even with the mark up.
  8. Issues like this should go to public votes... But Pierre Poutine might screw that up on us.
  9. They must think they are polar bears. Why else would you be fishing on pack ice?
  10. Fiddle heads and smelt in north bay next!
  11. Reports are out today that Ford is having accelerator issues as well. They are advising ford owners to hit the brakes really hard if the vehicle starts running away. Haha
  12. Good mix of pannies. What's this? White bass? White perch?
  13. Sweet! Birds nest with one line, fish on the other. It all evens out.
  14. use a healthy dose of cajun spice! Heat up pan with butter, flip both sides of the filets in the hot butter, then put cajun spice on both sides and fry away to a better place!
  15. Great stuff Brian! I wish we could have met up on saturday morning but it was nasty weather at 630am. I got called to work in the late morning so in the end, I was better off. Enjoy your walleye filets. Did you keep mr. Herring?
  16. Nice piece! That third shot makes her look like a real classic.
  17. Didn't limeyangler report catching Crappies in northwestern ontario. Apparently there are some near North Bay, but I really know nothing about that.
  18. No tax is a good sale now?? Jeez, I nearly bought some hiking boots from wholesalesports.com that were 159 marked down from 450. Cabelas.ca has winter jackets that are over 50percent off... Now those are sales. Sorry to kinda jack your thread... I've never been to fishingworld, but that "boys club" thing would drive me out of the store very quickly. Hopefully they fixed that and hopefully they offer better sales than 13percent off
  19. Well put. Good people make mistakes, but often they are avoidable
  20. Thanks for the pics Blair, great example of what I was talking about. You gotta keep a sharp eye out there but like you said, otherwise we still have lots of good ice...actually the best ice of the season so far. Still, my truck is staying on shore. haha.
  21. Great job by the rescuers! Each person on the ice flow had the opportunity to step back, assess the situation and decide if they were willing to take that risk. ..unless they were kids, addicts or mentally challenged, the responsibility was their own but the consequences were shared. Police warning, high winds, warm temps, open water are all clear signs that they should not have been ice fishing in that area. Luckily everyone survived, it could have been worse. That's some scary but it will make people in other countries laugh.
  22. Must have been a decent sale on that Garmin. It's got me thinking.,.. but then again I have nearly 100 things on my list already it seems.
  23. Very cool idea. I'd be interested in the 2man version... but i'm sure the price won't interest me. I'm not sure if it would be more or less bear safe. One slice at the bottom and watch the pinata candy fall out...
  24. I have to be home by 430 tomorrow, but if u need a hand with shack, I can make some time after 2. The landing at Park Road was rough on the way out... I saw a few completely open spots. Hopefully this cold weather keeps the landings steady so that everyone can get their shacks off... You know its going to be a busy weekend!
  25. Today was my last day with the truck on the ice. There is a still a good 18inch base of strong ice, but the recent melt has opened up quite a few tire swallowing drainage holes. Tonight's cold temps will turn the lake into a rink then its back to mild temps on saturday. I'd feel ok on a 4wheeler but that's about it.
