  1. Thanks again guys for all the replies. Looks like we may take a ride this weekend and check a few of these out.
  2. Thanks for the reply, I will check that one out. Does any one have any info on wether or not the runs are already done for the year?
  3. Good morning everyone. I havent been around in a while but my dad asked me a question today that I do not have an answer for but was sure somene here could help. He would like to take a weekend drive to go see a fish ladder or an area that you can watch a large quantity of fish move up stream( not necessarily a ladder). We live in the London area but are willing to drive a bit to see the sights. My mom and dad are both in their mid sixtys so nothing that you need to be a mountain goat to get to please. Hopefully we have not missed the spawn run, but all info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. I can tell you from first hand experience this summer that Ben is 100% professional and will do everyting in his power to put you on fish.
  5. Ok guys I need some help, I have a trip next week to Lac Seul. Taking my wife and son and both sets of parents, we are going fully guided, shore lunches the whole bit. It is 4 full days of fishing in two boats with two guides. My question is what would be your starting point for each guides tip? I know it all depends on the service received but what would you consider fair. I have done day trips before but never 4 days with the same guide.
  6. You wont hurt it by a little tension with a bungee. I have seen me drift up against a rock at the French while fighting a fish and make the shaft look like a bow (not recommended). They will flex quite a bit.
  7. Thanks for all the help guys.
  8. Billy bob I was going to say aluminum but I went out and checked and they are a white plastic of some sort so I would say the lexon you are talking about. The booms are metal. I did notice they say Mini mag A on the side.
  9. Billy bob what part are you referring to when you asked aluminum or lexon?
  10. Just wondering what a pair of Cannon mini mag electric down riggers would be worth. These are the older white bodied units. They have cable a pair of balls and swivel bases. Both work fine. Any one have an idea on what they are worth?
  11. This is really tragic and should never have happened. I have done some work off a swing stage and the law is the worker must be secured by a separate lifeline. This way if a failure occurs the worker only falls the length of his harness safety lanyard. I wonder if the company was cheaping out and not supplying all the proper equipment or telling these workers of their rights.
  12. There are no depth charts available but you can get a topo chart for Your Lowrance that has very good detail. I found it helped quite a bit with planning where you were going to fish etc.
  13. It was a fantastic series to be in the stands. Just think this is a building year for the knights, next year is supposed to be the all out year. As for Houser he would have been a decent selection but Watson gave his all every game I seen him play and was also quite deserving.
  14. Check out the link below, it is a large commercial fishery here in Ontario. It legally sells a ton of Ontario sport fish. http://www.alltempfoods.com/products.htm
  15. I have owned the Polarkraft 178 Tc for about 6 years now, great boat with very minimal issues. Would not hesitate to buy another one. You wont be disappointed with the Yamaha 115 it tops out in calm water with three in the boat at right around 40 mph.
  16. My parents are heading to a cottage in Jackson point for the second time. Last year when they were there, they went for a drive and found an area where spawning fish could be seen if you were at the right time of year. They were told there is another spot not far away for the same. I know nothing of the area so my question is can you tell me the spawning look outs so I can make them up some directions from there cottage and also they are arriving on mothers day will this be too late to see any amount of fish? Thanks for all your help.
  17. If you go out on the big lake at all a kicker is a must in my opinion. It is great to troll with but more important is the safety factor. I bought the electric start model and added the adapter so it can be steered from the wheel if preferred but you must shift at the motor itself, don't find much need for console controls. One thing you should look at in the kicker is the high thrust version from Yamaha or the big foot from Merc, they are designed to provide enough thrust to steer your boat in the wind at slow trolling speeds. A standard small HP motor can not do this on a full windshield boat without upping the throttle and then your trolling speed is too fast. I have a 176 twin console polarkraft with an 8 HP high thrust Yamaha that will steer the boat in a stiff wind at an idle. As for GPS/fishfinder if you can buy it without and put exactly what you want on the boat not what is in their package. I found Angling Outfitters was cheaper than the dealer any way. Personally I like the 4 strokes but it is all a preference thing, do yourself a favour and Google your options and look for recurring problems. I am partial to the Yamaha 4 strokes. My 115 has been fantastic and Yamaha has been excellent as well. as for battery charger etc they can all be added later if your handy.
  18. Couldn't agree more Tybo, My last 4 trucks have been GM's and have had great luck with all of them. I guess that,s why a 2012 Sierra is on the way. All the companies out there make decent vehicles, I just like my GM trucks.
  19. I just bought an 07 Eiger for the same reason. Suzuki makes a decent bike.I have a good friend that owns an ATV shop and he told me his most common repair in the door is by far Polaris. In my opinion Artic Cat and Polaris are OK but there is a reason they are the lowest priced of the big manufacturers, you get what you pay for. As for plowing you need at least a 54" blade so when angled the blade still clears the path for your tires. You can plan on spending an extra $900 plus if the machine you buy does not have a winch and plow. Those are new prices, used plows are tough to come by at this time of year. Personally I would not recommend the manual lift plows. Hope all this helps.
  20. Josh is open on a some Sundays. He does not advertise being open, that way if its nice and he wants to go fishing or has something else on his plate he has the day off. Best thing is to call and if he answers your golden.
  21. I just bought the HDS 8 and a structure scan for it and I am impressed so far. My neighbor who is a semi-pro angler has three HDS units on his boat. He told me if you are drifting or trolling very slow and the fish is stationary you can often tell the species. At normal trolling speeds it would be tough to distinguish. By the way I may have a line on an HDS7, HDS8 and a structure scan. I am going to keep one head unit but the others will be for sale.
  22. To get into the 1 foot contours I believe you need a certain chip. Not all chips show that detail.
  23. Thanks guys just got home. I am on my way to Angling outfitters and see what Jocelyn has to say about it.
  24. Just got back from the Woselly bay area, all I can say is fishing is really tough this year. We had five guys fished hard for2 half days and one full day and had 5 fish to show for it. No pickerel and nothing of any size. I know the fish are there we just could not entice them. There were 6 guys down from the Ottawa area and they got there two days before us and had the same story. I think they were heading golfing today.
  25. So I bit the bullet and bought a HDS 8 with structure scan. Jocelyn is sold out right now so in his normal fashion he gave me the unit off his boat ( cant ask for better service). My question is when they come in I don't know if I should buy the base unit or the one with insight. What does insight give me and should I get it?
