  1. I agree with running lead core off the boards but are you guys clipping directly to the lead? I thought this was a no no.
  2. Brian I am going to try and make it. 7 actually works well, that should get me home in time for UFC. By the way I hear you are going to be getting this radio for Goran.
  3. My son and I just did our course last year. The instructor had you pay a partial fee up front and gave you the books to read before the course started. This was to make sure people showed up on the course date. You paid the remainder at the start of the course.
  4. Carp I can't say for sure but I may have an extra seat. As soon as I know I will let you know.
  5. As BillyBob said all the grease on the inside indicates is that it is coming by the inner seal. Your bearings may be perfectly fine but you should check that the wheel spins smooth and no noise. If all is well you may have caused the seal to rupture by over greasing the bearing buddy or the seal may have just wore out.
  6. Ive seen them twice and I managed tickets again. Actually it was my son that made me get them. He really wants to see them in concert.
  7. I agree with clampit on the offshore boards. They can be used in the western basin with an added tattle tale flag kit for pulling worm harnesses or later in the year around Port Bruce pulling your favorite lures over open water. I also have the convectors and they seem to be good so far (2nd year). Check out the Rivierra mast, it comes with a quick mount plate and is extend able to I believe 7 feet.
  8. Daniel, where are you planning on doing your fishing? If it is Lake Erie take the time to go see Angling Outfitters in Woodstock. His prices are very good and his knowledge and service even better. You may also want to consider lead core set ups. This year they were fantastic for bows and eyes on Erie.
  9. I can't give you a comparison, but I can tell you I have changed all my electronics on my boat and even bought two auto GPS units and they are all Lowrance/Eagle. They make a very good product in my opinion and they stand behind them. I also believe it has a lot to do with getting a good dealer. If your not far from Woodstock let me know and I can get you in touch with the local dealer, that I know a lot of fellow OFC'ers will agree with me, he is one of the best to deal with.
  10. Thanks GCD. I could use a new recipe or to for trout.
  11. I just bought a Riviera planer board mast and two fold able Riviera boards. I took them out to Port Bruce today to make my first attempt and all did not go well. When I set up and got the boards in the water they seemed to sit a little odd in the water but still pulled out to the sides as they should. The problem arose when I tried to set my ten colour lead core up and out to the end of the board, the weight of the lead core set up caused the board to sweep in and be almost straight behind the boat. I tried both sides with the same results. I know these boards will pull 5 times this weight, I have seen it on the charter. I hear guys talking about squaring up your boards and wonder if this could be my problem and if so how do I correct it? Rest of the day we dragged a dipsy on each side as well as a lead core off each rear corner with no takers. Talk on the radio seemed to be that it was a slow day for most. It was a beautiful day to be on the water no matter what the results were.
  12. I have to agree with John, I would look at aluminum hulls. Almost all the aluminum boat manufacturers make a bow rider model that are very fishing friendly. I purchased my Polarkraft, it is 17 foot 8 has two live wells,a swim platform, rod storage and you can buy the extra padding for the front area that all matches the boat and is very comfy if your family wants to sun bathe up front. Personally I dont find most of the fiberglass bow riders to be very fishing friendly or even set up with live wells etc.
  13. Congrats percher. Nice to see an OFC member win.
  14. Thanks guys, I was looking at the LVR 250 yesterday at Angling Outfitters and Jos told me I could have it for a good deal. I think that will be next weeks new toy.
  15. Has any one here had any experience with the Lowrance line of radios? I am pretty close to replacing my current radio and I am seriously looking at the Lowrance line.
  16. I am heading up to the French on Saturday, has any one been up that way recently that can give a bit of insight into water levels and temps, and what kind of success is being had. I am on the main channel right by Dry Pine Bay. Mostly fish for Pike and walleye. May even try to find my first musky. Any tips on where to look for musky at this time of year would be greatly appreciated (ex. open water humps).
  17. We had plans to all meet at highway #4 and the 401 at 5:10 Sunday morning and all 15 guys were there on time and eager to get at it. We made a stop at the Dutton service center, which I think might just be the slowest McDonald's in the world, and headed for Erieau. We arrived at the boat around ten to 7, great timing, and met with Jeremy the owner of Trophy Taker Fishing Charters. After a short briefing we loaded into the three boats and headed for open water. It was a short trip roughly 9 miles West, set up lines and wasn't long before we were into our first fish, a nice size walleye for the pan. The day was fantastic, weather was great until about noon when the waves started to pick up, but even then they were still bearable. Only one guy out of 15 got sea sick. Back at the launch at three, the captains worked hard to fillet the days catch for us. I had also arranged for a local restaurant to do a type of shore lunch for us. We took some of our fish and they added french fries and coleslaw for $6 per person, can't beat those kind of prices. It was great, probably the best trout I have ever had and the walleye was just as good. I f you are ever in Erieau look up the Eau Bouy Galley. They are right by the marina and Cathy who I believe is the owner was great to deal with and treated our group excellent. That made it time for the ride home. After dropping every one else off and getting home myself it was 8:30 and I was beat, but it was all worth it. I would like to thank Trophy Taker charters for another fantastic trip, Eau Bouy Galley for some greta food and also Andrew from OFC for joining us and filling an empty spot when we had a late cancellation. I didn't take many photo's but here is one, this is the catch for two of the three boats laying out together. Hopefully Andrew can add some shots he took.
  18. Mike, Josh always recommended to me to use 20 lb. mono on my trolling rods for bottom bouncers but as soon as you go to Dipsy's he recommended 50 lb braid. I have had a lot of other guys repeat the same info.
  19. We went out with this captain twice last year, once we got about a 50/50 mix of bows and walleye the 2nd time 25 bows for 5 guys. It's a hard choice the bows are much more exciting to fish for but I still prefer to put walleye in the freezer.
  20. I have organized a charter for a bunch of guys from work This Sunday from 7 AM till 3PM. There are 14 of us going on 3 boats. We had one guy back out and are looking for some one that might be interested in joining in. The charter is out of Erieau. We plan on doing a dinner at a local restaurant after the charter, using some of our fresh caught fish of course. Cost of the charter is $150 for the day and a $10 tip to the captain. Erieau is roughly 1 hour 20 min West of London. I have chartered with this captain before and always have a blast as well as learn a ton about trolling. If any one is interested let me know. Thanks Mike.
  21. I have not bought it yet but I am also heading the Lowrance way.
  22. There is some comfort in the fact that I'm not the only one that forgets. JWL the only problem is when I go to Colchester I only take my trolling gear with me and no extra stuff. So we didn't have any of the stuff you mentioned also the water in that area is about 35 feet deep at the most unless you make the long trek out toward Pelee island. I might try one more kick at the can this year before they head to the East. Any day fishing is better than a day working.
  23. As some of you may remember I was headed for the West end of Lake Erie Saturday morning, I got the family up and out the door by 4:30 and arrived at the Colchester ramp by 7. Got the boat in the water and headed out about 2 miles, everything was going very well. That is until I went to rig the first rod and realized that I had forgotten all 4 planer boards :wallbash: . We tried flat lining behind the boat but it never works that well in Colchester and from what I heard from others the bite wasn't the best any ways so we only managed one pickeral and a bunch of silver bass. All the bass went back and the pickeral came home for lunch Sunday. It was a great day on the water and lunch was fantastic but I still feel like a dumb _ss.
  24. Have a great day every one. I am glad to finally be able to say I am getting the boat in the water today. I have only wet a line once this year and it wasn't in my boat. Lake Erie here we come.Hopefully we will have a report for ya later. Be safe on the water today and good luck.
