  1. I find this one good for western lake Erie and Detroit river as well as Saint Clair and Mitchells bay. http://www.basshavencanada.com/ This one also has some on those areas as well as Eastern lake Erie. http://www.longpoint.on.ca/forum/default.asp
  2. Nice work CCMT. You will love having a bow mount, they are great around structure.
  3. First off welcome. I have a Minnkota power drive and love it, I had an all terrain on my old boat and it worked well but for me the power drive is much better. A 55 should push your boat in normal conditions, if you can up size do it you can never have too much power especially trying to fight the wind. Also if you can manage the second battery and you expect to use the motor a lot go 24V, they last a lot longer. The auto pilot feature on the power drive is awesome for long trolls down a weed or shore line.
  4. I just noticed you can buy the SE sport with an available option that allows it to be fastened to your motor without drilling holes. Has any one here ever used the Sport clip. I did some searching and not a lot of info on the web yet. I know the one by sting ray that allows no hole attachment has a horrible reputation for failing. I love the idea of not drilling holes but I am a little afraid of the consequences.
  5. Limeyangler Rapala makes a rechargeable version of the electric fillet knife. It comes with two different length sets of blades two batteries charger all in a blow molded plastic case. It's not cheap but It works fantastic. I used it for the week last year up in Timmins and loved it.
  6. I am considering adding a sting ray style stabilizer to my main motor. Ever since adding the weight of the kicker to the stern I don't like the way the bow rises. I am considering all, sting ray, doelfin,SE sport, cobra marine or any others. The only one I won't put on is the sting ray XR111. There have been way to many reviews of the no drilling design falling off and destroying lower units in the process. Do any of you guys have any good or bad info on any of the particular brands.
  7. Chrispy, I was using inline boards, bottom bouncers and worm harnesses, that's all I ever use down there after a charter captain showed me the ropes. I must say though the biggest change was buying the tattle tale flag kits for the Offshore boards. They are a huge improvement. We pretty much were trolling with the huge pack around the mile marker.
  8. Just to add with Firefox you will have a lot less trouble with viruses etc. than you will with IE. Try Firefox and Thunderbird, both are from Mozilla. I switched on Ricks recommendation 3 or 4 years ago and could not imagine using IE any more.
  9. Went out Saturday morning with my son and father in law to Colchester, got to the ramp by 6:30 and see the lake is still showing remnants of Friday nights storm. Father in law was a little hesitant to dive in ( his boat, his choice) so we headed for breakfast. Got back to the ramp and watched a bunch of boats go out and decided it was starting to calm down enough that we would give it a shot. On the water by 9:30 and off by 3pm with ten nice fish for the freezer. The water by mid day barely had a ripple and the fish were there although not as hard as I have seen but I guess that is to be expected right after the storm. One bonus for the day was there were very few non target fish. We only caught two sheephead and maybe a dozen silver bass. Can't wait to get back again.
  10. Sorry guys I have been just swamped this week and have not been around much. Thanks for all the great info. I'll make sure he gets it. Thanks again.
  11. Mike if we go the way you described can we turn left and cross the 401 on the Belle river road to head to Colchester or do we need to get South of the 401 at Tilbury.
  12. I have a good friend at work that is heading to Rice lake next week. He asked if I knew any thing about it and I said no but knew where I could get some good help. He is mainly a musky fisherman but I am guessing he will be happy catching any thing on his first trip out this year. Any advice I can pass along would be greatly appreciated.
  13. A guy at work had a 2004 Lowe FM 175, took it out on Eerie in moderate waves nothing huge and the main seam let go. He had to run the bilge and bail while his body drove the boat back to shore. The good news is Lowe did come good for the hull warranty but he lost his boat for the biggest part of last season.
  14. I have an 8hp Yamaha high thrust and love it. I would think you could get away with a six but don't think they make a high thrust in a six. I would recomend high thrust if you fish the great lakes at all. On a dual console 16 footer on a windy day you wont be able to steer easily at low trolling speeds, the high thrust allows you to idle and still have control of your boat. In my opinion you can never go wrong with a Yamaha.
  15. Ask if the warranty is from Ford or a 3rd party. Most 3rd party warranties (such as Lubrico) will not pay for diagnosis. I have seen a shop bill to the customer for hundreds for diagnosis and a few dollars to the warranty co. for the repair. Also 3rd party warranties usually have a long list of what is covered and what is not. GE capital is one of the best 3rd parties I have seen, in some model cases better coverage than OE. In my opinion go to your local Ford dealer and talk to the mechanics and ask what kind of problems they have seen from your vehicle, if there are a lot of expensive problems coming up on a regular basis it may be worth it. Also check the net googling the model and year for problems. It also depends on how comfortable you are with doing repairs. A $1000 repair bill at the dealer can be less than $200 in parts from a jobber. I personally don't like extended warranties in general they are a money make for the company and the seller but I did purchase one for my wifes previous vehicle using the above and got my moneys worth and more. On her new vehicle I chose not to as it has a very good record for repairs. Hope this helps.
  16. Won't go back after trying them. I'm sure you will like them as well.
  17. Radnine make a point of trying his batter. I normally make my own but we tried his and it is one of the best ready made I have tried. It gives instruction for pan fried breading or deep fried batter as well as oven baked. Haven't tried the baked yet, the pan fried was very good, the family wasn't to high on the batter style.
  18. Wouldn't ya know it they are calling for rain all weekend.
  19. Thanks guys. Gerritt not sure about all the info yet, just looking at possibly importing and making a couple bucks.
  20. Any ideas what a 2003 Lund V Rebel SS 1650 with a 25 hp Mercury bigfoot on a trailer is worth. From pictures looks to be in good shape.
  21. I have a Kershaw that I really like. It holds a good edge.
  22. Thanks for the link superdad. I wasn't aware that the tourney season had started yet. It is very nice to see a Canadian in the spot light, there aren't that many on the pro tours. If were lucky maybe we might see this tourney on the WFN channel.
  23. Thanks Roy looks like it is a 1985.
  24. I did a bit of searching on the net but not coming up with any thing conclusive. Can any one tell me what year this serial number is "7213965" .Its off an 18hp.
