  1. very cool Simon, Jack's at such a great age. Good thing he didn't say it was a monster willy fish,
  2. Camping at Mew or Pog Lake on May 24 weekend. It was oneof those winters where all of the great lakes froze over during the winter in the early '90.s As we drove into the park there were still big blue-green skabs of ice hanging under the rocks wherever the sun didn't shine on them. The weather was more like mid April then mid May with sunny days and below freeing nights. We just pulled into our site. I was scoping it out and had been looking at the river that ran behind the site. I turn around and at the end of the path to our site, broad side staring at me is a she wolf. We just look at each other for at least 60 seconds, neither moving. It was like she was looking at me saying "what is one of you doing here in this weather?". I was just enjoying the view. After that she ploped off into a rock pile. I went to see if she was still around later, but she was gone. I am positive she had cubs somewhere nearby Another time I was up at a lodge with a friend. We were down at the farthest end from the lodge on a small lake. We were the only people there that weekend and it was peaceful and quiet. Its just after dawn and that great time of the morning when the birds are singing and silence otherwise rules. We are enjoing the atmosphere (even though we have ony caught one fish so far). Suddenly we start to hear a plashing sound. We look around and about 200 yerds from us is a cow moose with her calf. The plashing had been their feet in the shallow water as they stepped into it each time. Over the next 30 minutes we watched them as they wound their way around the lake. They would enter the woods for a few minutes then re-appear, plashing along the shore line. The last one was 2 years ago; we were up in Gowganda. 3 of us in a boat all casting to shore for bass. Suddenly we hear this really strange sound building up behind us. We turn around and see this: . we watched in awe as the wind whipped the water into this spout, and it then travelled along the water at about a 45 degree angle toward us, getting closer as it came along. We were so gob smacked it took us at least a minute before we grabbed our cameras, and no one even thought to get a vid, which would have been cool becuase the sound that accompanied it was like a 1000 hands slapping the water as the wind made a perfect circle at the base. After a couple minutes it started to die down, eventually becoming just a circle of waves on the water making that slapping sound and then disappearing completely.
  3. NICE fish. Close call with that first attempt to net. Glad you got to hold and release.
  4. OK - chatting with a OFC friend and this topic was raised. I just came back from a trip and he is leaving on one in a couple weeks. The topic of the deadly trip tackle purge came up. You know - the one where you look at your 30 - 50 trays of tackle and decide what stays and what HAS to go. And then you get there and you use maybe 3 trays at most in a week. At least that happens to me This question actually extends beyond just idle curiosity. Its my bud's 50th next year and we will be making plans for a fly in, where weight and space will be a premium. So I am intersted in hearing from both the fly-in and the non-flyin crowds. To start things rolling - Me - I never get away with less than three full bags (15 trays) and overflow. Then I bet I use no more than 3 trays if I actually figured it out and more worms than I planned for. (edited for spelling)
  5. Nothing like putting someone onto a PB. Great experience
  6. beauty shot - love those red dawns with the clouds adding character.
  7. Nice shot indeed. Congats Madison!
  8. well said Brian (and yes, I admit, I stumbled here on my intro 2 years ago - this being the first forum I joined ). So for those who havent noticed I am a fishing addict. But these days I seem to be better known as the guy who goes fishing with, and consistently gets out fished by, G-man. Give a man fish fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and feed him for life; teach your son to fish and get upstaged each time you go out. No better reward for a father. Introduced him to bass fishin' on Temagami last week - kid taught himself how to jig by watching the fish. A full Temagami report to come later ----
  9. Yep - I'll trade one of your slow days for a week of my average days anytime - deal? Them is still some beauties
  10. Many a true word above. I have, and you will doubtless as you fish more and more, found myself on both sides of the "some anglers hit the max limit in an hour or two and I manage 2 fish in 7 hours" equation. Many is the day I have hit the water to come home with similar 2 fish in a day experience only to see posts of boxes full of fish, big smiles and PB's by other anglers on the same or similar bodies of water . On the other hand, I have also had absolute killer days, the kind you only get once a year when you almost can't keep the fish off your line, and heard the charter capts struggling and find reports from other anglers who experienced all day. Its fishing, and the wins make the tough ones worthwhile. Harrison has a great point - go with what feels right, not what you have heard or read. By all means read and consider, but do what, and where you feel you should - make it a part of what you do - not all that you do. In the long run it always wins out. Keep on searchin (edited for spelling)
  11. cool I look forward to this report, in a masochistic, I wish that was me kind of way. Enjoy the trip!
  12. same here - tarps over the sleeping tent(s) and the 12 x 12 screen tent. The latter being one of the best things we ever bought for camping (after air mattresses for the post 20's bodies ) . We have been trying to find a replacement for the last few years as the zippers are starting to go, but they dont seem to make them with flaps anymore? - Oh, and of course the stand up on the boat and rain gear. On the other hand - if I could be as wrong as often as the weather reports and not face some form of job performance reveiw it would be a really casual world. If history is anything to show, you may still get sunny skies and a 3 day high pressure system. Here's hoping it works that way for ya
  13. congrats - but really, was there any doubt it was going to be a girl when she kept waiting that long???
  14. great report - and a real nice lake you have there. Nic eaters.
  15. nothing like finding a new lake that produces, congrats. Them blue ones are neat - we caught a couple up in Gowganda. A beauty barely under 16.929133858286 inch walleye (sorry, us old timers have to go find an online conversion tool to figure it out ) so - did you catch a sunburn too?
  16. nice bunch of eyes there . If only TO weren't in the way, I would be there a lot more.
  17. Right on Simon - great vid. Jack's gonna be a great Canuckangler. Next year when you come home it'll be "Hey Dad, lets go out back and catch supper for tonight?" great memories there
  18. Wow - now that's a fly in worth its money. Nice.
  19. great report and a great spot. Riley and Dad will be talking about that one for a while I suspect, And now I know what Frank's saving for....... all you need is a picture of a rainbow ending on that lake.....
  20. Lloyd at U and Me Charters. Member of the board and provides a great day on the water you'll see a few votes for him come up I imagine. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showuser=559
  21. doh (insert hand smackin' forehead icon) . Long day at work and being greeted by a revisited computer virus upon arrival at home will do that to one''s perception
  22. cant say I agree with that Bill. A big king running and peeling the line out on any set up is a thrill, and a work out - but each to his own.
