While I'm sure there's those that swear by it I find the Wavespin Reel a little gimmicky at best. I've only seen the ads so I've never tried it to be sure, nor do I intend to. Better things to do with a c-note, and if I do get a tangle (rare) I know it's my fault and just deal with it. Usually find I can untangle braid where I used to replace mono, guess I've been lucky that way! One thing I do find that helps with the braid or fused lines is to "wet pack" it after filling the reel, meaning let it out or cast it out & retrieve with the rod tip under water. The other thing I do is to reverse it end for end every season or more often depending on use. I've got a few reels that have Power Pro on them from 2002 and they do just fine. Like many have said - lighter on smaller, heavy on larger reels & keep it tight. Not a big difference from mono when you think about it. Like anything, there's a learning curve involved and everyone will have their little tricks to make things work better. Michael

Opposite here too - weeds way up & algae bloom so bad it almost looks like I could walk across it in our small cove (waves washing it in, looks like a thick green & white pond scum). Tons of weed washing up on shore too. Water is very low as well, but it's only my 3rd summer here so I have to believe what I'm told is normal. Michael

What John Bacon said - gotta keep it tight! I recall reading on either the Power Pro site or the instructions that come with the line that the bail should be closed manually. I crank the bail closed, slight pause while either lifting or swinging the rod to take up the slack then continue. Never had any problems with any type or strength of braid as long as I keep it tight. Gives new meaning to saying "tight lines" these days! Michael

Solar Panel(s). Lots of places to get them including Canadian Tire, Kijiji etc. Worth looking into. Michael

How old is the gas? Might be the beginning of a shellac build up. But do check the lower unit as others have been saying - you have 2 separate & distinct issues. Michael

Question about making spinnerbaits?

Go to luremaking.com for info on both the items you STOLE ($5.00 is an incredibly great buy!) and how to use them. Should find everything you need to know there. Have fun! (don't forget to figure out how much you saved!) Michael -
Most sign places can cut vinyl to any type of letter and a ton of graphics. Not sure what you are looking for when you say "decal" but it sounds like something you might want silk screened? There is a guy in the 400 market who does vinyl letters etc. fairly cheaply (I know he does a lot of boat & snowmobile numbers. Good Luck! Michael

Don't think so - I had to show "other" id in order to renew mine. Pretty sure the Walmart guy typed something in the machine to reflect I used my driver's license. Michael

IF it's a mechanical fuel pump remove it and check the cam shaft lobe for wear (stick yer finger in the hole ha ha!). I had to convert my 1986 to an electric fuel pump for that very reason - the lobe for the fuel pump only wore out prematurely. Once the job was done it ran like a top. One thing - make sure the electric is mounted near the fuel tank. The first time I had it done the (deleted! deleted! deleted! etc.). mounted it on an angle on the inside of the fender - nothing but cavitation! Michael

This happened with this same lad before, Bill - read his profile - his goal is to become a guide and I'm quite sure he's on this board to learn from his peers and be more involved with the sport. Michael

I was reading a court case on CANLII last night - UPS is being taken to task in a class action over it's brokerage fees and insistence on charging them. They're launching appeal after appeal to delay the actual action. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out if it ever gets heard! Michael

Myth Busters, survivinh on a desert island

Not bad BUT they had to bring in food rather than kill the chicken & upset the viewers. Quite the concept though! Michael -

30" xx long - I learned that in my quest the last few days! Michael

I've used them for lead jigs successfully. They're also the standard for stinger hook attachment. Michael

Backtroll (Yes, in reverse)with the sock out front. Unless you're in higher winds of course (waves too high to reverse into). I used a 5 gallon bucket for the purpose once - worked ok until the handle tore off (it was a temporary fix - long story!) Michael

Maybe you should stop using the company phone for personal use? I'd think any delay would be based on the available cellular bandwidth - I use a rocket stick (rogers) for internet here and it's all over the map in terms of varying speed from 0 to 4 mbps during the day Monday to Friday - more consistently available evenings & weekends. Maybe the different formats you're trying have big differences in their sizes? Michael

Hope I don't get shredded for this but... Guys & Gals PLEASE read the OP's profile...I just did and learned something that kept me from commenting harshly. He's 14 years old which tells me he's learning the sport as well as how to approach others for advice. His long term goal is to guide! Meaning I too have wondered about him and some of his questions, now I know why. Couple of times I was gonna jump on him as well, but now I think a little leeway is in order. Let's try to promote and assist him a bit here. I can't help you with this particular location RHF, but you got the right idea asking to be pm'd with any details. Generally, etiquette dictates NOT giving specific details or locations on open posts, which extends to asking for them as well. This is to protect the resource from being pressured even more than it is already - and I'll leave that one right there! Good luck on your goal! Michael

No fish in this lake except 3 eyed ones - very shallow & rocky - water very dirty so you can't see the rocks - no boat launches - getting near it will make you ITCH! Really - it's true - I wouldn't do anything nasty just to keep the pressure off, nope, not me, I wouldn't do that at all! Why would I - it's not like I've made a pledge to myself to get out this year unlike last year, nope not at all! Besides - it's too far for me to travel! You can trust me - after all I am a fellow angler! Michael

I had heard about that possible reaction myself. My aluminum "girts" or ribs had intact factory paint on them and I sealed the entire surface & cuts of the PT like I said. Couldn't see where the reaction could begin between aluminum and any chemistry in the plywood with these two barriers between them. Maybe I took a chance but both the carpet & deck were still good when it sold last year from what I was told, meaning it wasn't possible to find out if anything did happen as it hadn't been torn apart again. Michael

I used pressure treated plywood on mine, sealed it with Home Depot's house brand version of Thompson's water sealer before, during (cuts) and after (cover coat) installation. Glued the carpet over that and it lasted the last 5 years I owned it and the 8 years the guy I sold it to before he resold it. Boat was an '89 Lund Pike that I redid in '98, sold in 03 and he sold it last year still going strong. Michael

Warning to anyone heading to National Parks
cheaptackle replied to Dondorfish's topic in General Discussion
YUP. That all came about years back when some political type found out that a few hundred tonnes of lead were SOLD each year in Canada so he assumed they were ALL ending up in the water. Guess he never thought to ask me or about a million other anglers how many pounds of lead we have collectively still in our possession. Lotsa controversy on this subject but I did find that one mislead fact seemed to be at the forefront for all those complaining. Michael -
They're not entirely off the hook - Oro-Medonte is charging them about 200.00 each as per previous posts & reports. All this article is saying is that Barrie can't charge them as it was outside their boundaries, and there is no program in place allowing Barrie to charge Oro-Medonte. Good thing for those rescued as Oro would then in turn add the Barrie charges to their own plus anything else from Innisfil, York Region & the OPP if such back charging were allowed. I'm sure the total bill from ALL involved rescue units would be more like 30 grand if it were all tallied up - helicopters gotta be around 1500.00 per hour I would think. Too bad it wasn't possible to predict such a large floe would break off when it did, but even with the limited season opportunities driving the urge to be out it was questionable for them to be out there. If it had been one or two people I could see all the namecalling, but 26? Something must have indicated some degree of security on the ice that morning for that many to venture out. Hind sight is 20/20 - one would think. Wasn't it just a week later that 2 more were rescued of an ice floe in Innisfil? Now those ones should be charged! Michael

Sounds like a good deal BUT.... Cover yer Make sure your land lease permits subletting first, check your liability insurance covers you against claims from him, then.... Make a sub lease based on the on you have now or see if you can get a copy of a campground rental agreement from a seasonal camp OR get a lease kit from Staples, modify it for your camp and terms. Make sure all signatures and initials are witnessed. Wouldn't want any "claim jumping" to lose you your camp. Once you get to know the guy you might not need this security. Speaking of which, you should get a deposit for security that can be returned after he leaves. As in anything, hope for the best but plan for the worst. Chances are the guy is ok but let experience rather than suspicion prove that. If he's on the up and up he'll appreciate you taking a professional approach once you explain your position. Sounds like he's ok based on offering all the id's etc. But a good contract is something you can take to small claims (monetary limit is now 20 or 25 grand there) if it all goes south. If you have any lawyer friends it'd be a good idea to chat with them as well, just to be sure all the bases are covered. Hope it all goes well for both of you! Michael
