Yup, certainly am getting through my cash for bait, we are busy scoping possible minnow ponds at the moment, first traps should be in this week. I did a little experiment with a buddy last year, he was using Gulp leeches from the tub a i had live leeches....i out fished him 5 - 1. Last year the now never to return PWT Can- Am tournament on my home lake wabigoon was artificial bait only (Canada won!) and the guyswere bringing impressive 8 -10lb walleye to the weigh ins every day, not sure if that was on gulp type baits or trolling crankbaits though, lol...they tend not to say where and with what they caught their fish. A lake i went to weeks ago fishes best with twisty tail grubs, whereas when i tried those at the lake in this report not a sniff. I guess they work, but for me its a confience thing, if i'm already shelling out $50 in gas for boat and truck to get into some remotish lakes, i'd rather put in an extra $10 with my fishing partner for 4 dozen minnows. I might revise that as my funds start to dwindle though....lol. Actually yesterday was the first time i have been bit all year, its been soooooo cold here up till this week, but i'm sunburnt now....YEAH....SUMMER....AT LAST! Hey Splashhopper, its a good job you live down there...lol....my wife'es folks are in Dorchester, w'ell be down in October so you can put me onto some good spots when we're down....sound good? Gissa shout when you're back TBAY. You mock my pain.....lol.....its a tough life for me here...you could try and be a bit more understanding Would love to see ya up here JB....LJ could team up with my missus and give us a lesson in fishing. If ya come in september w'e hit Lac Seul for some Fall fishing....some real hawgs to be had. Yup Grt1, i wold be going crazy if that was me....you are a lucky so and so to be on Gullrock....my time up there last August is still the best walleye fishing i've experienced so far . -
Hi all, went back to a a lake i'd only fished once before...and that was icefishing, but we did pretty good so had high expectations for it. Took a good hour to get in there with the ATV, trail in was in pretty rough shape. We headed to the creek mouth we'd fished in April on the ice....no joy except a couple small pike. We then tried to find some sheltered shoreline as the good ole weather network was ....as usual....way off the mark with its forecast and there was a really strong northwest causing whitecaps.... ........anyway after struggling to get good boat control with no fish to show for our efforts we headed to a spot we had fished through the ice in February, and after a 2 hour search for walleye we limited out in 20- 30 minutes, with a good number of oversize fish going back, a couple of small whitefish (i'll be back to target those for sure) and a boat load of slimey pike. All taken on jigs with minnows, colour did not seem important as we all caught around the same amount with different colours. Minnows were main bait, i had a few nightcrawlers and they worked just as well, just hooked on the jig. 12' 14' FOW was where all the fiash were, including the whities. Here's a video of us when we found the fishies, and a few random pics of the afternoon. WAS WORTH THE WAIT LOTS OF MINNOW THIEVING PERCH TOO LOONS WERE NOT SHY AT ALL LEW'S DAUGHTER INSISTED WE KISS ALL THE FISH BEFORE PUTTING THEM BACK, NO TONGUES THOUGH PLEASE...EWWWWW! ALWAYS LOTS OF PIKE IT SEEMS THIS WAS SITTING IN THE MUD AT THE LANDING, KINDA COOL THE STRAINED LOOK ON MY FACE IS CAUSE I HAVE AN ELBOW INJURY AND THE STRINGER WAS HEAVY!

hi all, got out for a couple of hours on Tuesday, went to a spot i love even though the fishing has been tough there so far this year. In fact the fishing has been sporadic evrywhere for me this year. Talking to other anglers it has a lot to do with the cold weather, poor fishies dont know what time of year it is or where they should be....lol. I snuck into the little bay after trying to find the smallies....without success, water temp at the surface still mid 50's. Anyway, was marking lots of fish in the little cove and tried my usual 1/8 jig 'n' minnow presentation. Got a couple of pike but was after some supper fish...walleye and crappie. I knew something was up with my presentation because i could see the jig on the fishfinder and fish were coming off the bottom but not hitting. So i decided to try the slip bobber, instant result...small walleye. Then i lost what mustv'e been the biggest crappie i have ever seen...was at least 14 inches and fought like a 3lb pike......darn it! Also tried the floating jig with a running(slip) sinker ...again instant results....a nice 17' walleye. Then the thunder clouds started to gather and i decided to head home before i got caught out in the middle of Lake Wabigoon.......anyway....seems like slow vertical presentation was the key yesterday......here's a few pics/vids.

A fe hours on Lac Seul, Williams Bay.
limeyangler replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
Nah, not taken with my 'mobile'.....lol......i dropped my camera the other day and its not been the same since......and yeah....the smallie was surprise...a welcome one too -
Hi All, Went out with my buddy Adam fora few hours on Lac Seul this afternoon. All fish were caught on plain jigs, most were on the sand bars in 5-16 FOW. We saw a few other boats out there...and most agreed whhen we chatted at the landing that the day was slow. We still got a few fish over 20 inches our limit of 17-18 inchers a load of small pike, i even got into a 19 inch bass for good measure, i expected more as we have done really well there before...but i aint complaining...honest Here's a few pics/vids of the days events

excellent.....gonna have to try that with my 3 month old...thanks for the idea -
Hi all, Got all my chores done pretty late yesterday, its hard to not keep stopping and playing with my baby son...he's all giggly and playful these days. Anyway at around 7pm both wife and baby were napping and i thought i'd hook up the boat and try a little pond up the road. Went there opening weekend with a buddy and drew a blank apart from a few small pike. Surprisingly enough for such a small lake this lake has a good walleye population, and even a few bass. GOT INTO A WALLEYE ABOUT AFTER AROUND 20 MINS TROLLED AROUND FOR ANOTHER 1/2 HOUR WITH NO BITES, ONLY A LONE LOON FOR COMPANY HOOKED INTO PSYCHO BABY PIKE, THOUGHT HE'D GET AWAY BY BITING THROUGH MY ANCHOR LINE....LOL GOT A FEW MORE PIKE ON TOPWATER, ALL PRETTY SMALL THOUGH TROLLING BACK TO THE TRUCK I GOT INTO A BETTER WALLEYE All in all a great couple of hours mesing around on this small pond. All the walleye went back as this is such a small lake, the pike were also returned.

Hi all, Got the call at about 9am from Lew...."wanna go fishing at my cabin today?".........like I always say when asked if i wanna go fishing...."are there bubbles when a duck farts?" So after getting a few things done, i got to Lew's about an hour late at 1pm, he was gracious about my lateness, but gave me some stick about it....lol...oooops. Picked up Lew's dad Alex, got some minnows and headed an hour north of Dryden to the small lake where his cabin is located. Access is a small trail through the bush to where his boat is stashed on the shore, then a short 1/2 mile across the lake to his cabin. Good fun just getting into some of these places...and easier since Lew got his new Arctic Cat 4x4, especially not having to carry the outboard! GOT THERE AROUND 2PM SHORT TRAIL THROUGH THE BUSH THEN HALF MILE ACROSS THE LAKE....GOOD FUN JUST GETTING THERE! Lew had been talking up his cabin lake for a while now and was eager for me to come up, i was eager to go too. He said that there were large numbers of walleye in here, and whilst they generally didn’t get much bigger than 24 inches, it was often difficult to get eaters as they always threw any fish over 18 inches back. . I was pumped......and we did not waste any time and got fishing. We all started off using beetlespins (which is becoming a favourite of mine all over again) with white jigs and white twister tails tipped with minnows. Lew was saying that they only ever used white twister tails as bait and rarely used minnows as they did not produce as well on this lake, but he had been out the weekend before and minnows were out fishing the artificial...so we took 3 dozen with us, just in case. I got into the first fish, a pike, then Lew got into a nice 18` inch walleye. We trolled around that spot for an hour but were just catching pike...nearly every cast! 1ST PIKE OF AROUND 40 THAT DAY THEN LEW GOT INTO THE FIRST WALTER Because we were only catching pike in that spot, we started to explore the rest of the lake, same result, PIKE....PIKE....and MORE PIKE. It was getting ridiculous, every cast for around 3 or 4 hours. 2ND SNOT ROCKET BONANZA I`VE HAD IN A WEEK! We decided to head back to where we caught the first and only walleye of the day at around 7pm. We were down to our last few minnows thanks to the pike, and Lew and his dad were both mystified at the results so far, they both said this had been the toughest day they had ever had since they owned the cabin....i think they’ve had it for 30 years or so. I was convinced that the original spot would produce based on the premise that over the last week I’ve been fishing nearly every day, whether in front of our house or elsewhere, and every time the bite did not really start until 7 or 8pm. Well the walters came out to play and we limited out in about an hour or so, throwing back at least 4 that were over 18 inches. It was funny to Lew and myself, but his dad just couldn’t get a walleye yesterday, must have been frustrating for him as we were pulling them in consistently, whilst he was looking after all the pike in the vicinity...lol...i laugh but its happened to all of us. We would have got a lot more and quicker if we hadn’t run out of minnows, as the fish just were not hitting and holding on without at least a chunk on the hook with the twister grub. At one point we cut a half digested shiner a pike coughed up into 3 tiny chunks(one for each of us) and used that, as soon as we added that we caught more walleye...lol..weird. Anyhooo, we got a nice stringer full of very chunky healthy walleye, had a great day out in the freezing weather of May and caught a lot of fish...cant ask for more. sorry bout the pics....my camera is pooched...dropped it on the kitchen floor BITE STARTED AROUND 7PM LOTS OF NICE CHUNKY EATERS THREW BACK A FEW OVER 18 INCHES DID NOT TAKE LONG (once the bite started) TO GET OUR LIMIT AND GET OUT BEFORE DARK
