limeyangler replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
Ths exactly what i thought! great report Jacques, that really is a nice sauger. Its so kind of you to post a report so we can see what summer looks like up here in NWO....lol. 20 bass as well....great day out! -
Hi all, Had a great day yesterday, had to share....lol...such a proud dad here. Was baby Jacks first swimming lesson yesterday, he was too cute (imho) in his little swimsuit CHECK OUT DA MOVES! Jack was by far the youngest in the pool, most of the babies were at least a year old, lots of them were wailing as they went in....water was pretty cold, but jack took it all in his stride....he was a bit unsure at first but was loving it by the end. WHAT THE HELL ARE MUM AND DAD DOING TO ME NOW! Well the weather sucks here this summer, but I’d planned to take a young lad who I mentor out for some trout, so we had some lunch and took off to Thunder Lake. I decided not to take the downriggers as I’d been doing really well using a Jiggin' Rap with a piece of minnow. The lad had never jigged for trout and was pretty hyped ( LOL....he's a very subdued character....so you probably cant tell from the pics.....but he was hyped....lol). I trolled around the 60-70 FOW just near to a shallow ridge until I marked baitfish, then anchored up. Gotta get one of those electric anchor winches...lol...pulling up a 28lb anchor from 70FOW is a chore....lol. FOUND THE BAITFISH...TROUT SHOULD BE NEARBY Wesley was a bit disappointed that I did not have another Jiggin' Rap for him to use and looked a bit dejected when I offered him a plain jig, don’t think he thought I was playing' fair. But before I had tied my rig he was into the first fish. What followed was 20 minutes of fast and furious Laker action. Lots of hits and misses. The kid was loving that he could watch his and my jig on the screen and see the trout chasing his jig up and down. LIMITED OUT IN 20 MINUTES YOU SHOULD SEE HIS FACE WHEN HE'S NOT HAPPY....LOL The God's were smiling on us that day, because we got out in a break in the lightning storms, and no sooner than our 4th keeper was in the wind whipped up the whitecaps and thunder flashes all around...so it was a short but sweet fishing trip. The bonus to the short trip was I got back before babies bedtime and had the chance to be goofy with him before bed. HIS GIGGLE JUST KILLS ME! Great day with baby...always is, and some pretty good trout fishing thrown in....like I said.....LIFE IS GOOD!

whats the worst that could happen, apart from having to catch Marlin instead of muskie for a few years, cuz catching marlin, giant grouper, yelowtail, shark, trevali, permit, bonefish, tarpon, barracuda (barracuda on topwaters is better than bass in my humble opinion)in the beautiful carribean whilst doing the job you love sucks right?? Seriously Rich, i'm like a lot of peope you already mentioned.....GO FOR IT!!!!!! But seriously....ask yourself whats the worst that could happen?

Great Pics, nice fishies, and cool shades

Not trying to dissagree with you Cram....but in my experience you do get alot of line twist after a good days use, specialy if using braid. I use braid with a verry small swivel to attach a 18" flourocarbon leader. Just my 2cents worth. Or if i'm tying direct il use a snap swivel. But have to agree this is one of the most versatile ures i have in my tackle box i also ike the reverse colour mepps aglia (chartreuse with black spots). I have caught Bass (LMB and SMB) , Walleye, Pike, Perch with these.......lethall for smallmouth if you can avoid getting a pike every cast!!!.

Went out for only my 2nd time ever targeting musky. Went with my buddy Lew who is an avid and experienced musky fisherman, he took me up to Thaddeus and Ord lakes about an hours drive north of Dryden. I was kinda ambigous about the whole Musky thing......to be quite honest i did not think i had the patience to cast what seem to me to be giant lures all day with the likelyhood of catching nothing. In the end we did not even get a follow, but i was surprised how quickly the day went, and how the anticipation of a bite was sustained all day. For me, I think what helped sustain the anticipation was the fact we were catching relatively small fsh (not muskie) on these big spinner baits, crankbaits and jerkbaits. Although i know these big baits catch muskie, it was hard for me to imagine anything going for them...especially some of Lew's homemade contraptions....but even the most outrageously bright coloured , non fish like creations were catching fish. This helped my confidence no end, which helped me believe i could actually catch one....lol...which made me feel like every cast was gonna be the one. Another spin-off benefit from the day was getting waleye on the large natural and firetiger jerk baits. Again a confidence thing but i'm warming to using hardbaits for walleye more and more, and this trip certanly re-inforced this. I went into a Bass tournament a few weeks ago and during the pre-fish and the tournament itself we caught more walleye on "wigglewarts' than we did bass....maybe should go in for a walleye tounament instead....lol. And whilst fishing local small lake a week ago when the bite was slower than slow, i decided to try the wigglewart and caught fish after fish when live bait could not get a fish for love or money. So i guess the point of my rambling is...... that even a 'bad days' fishing is a learning opportunity. Anyway...here's some pics and vids from sundays outing with Lew. ONE OF THE WALLEYE SOME OF THE BASS SOME NORTHERNS KINDA COOL GOING THROUGH THE CULVERT CONNECTING THE LAKES SOME COOL PICTOGRAPHS TOO IN THADDEUS LAKE Whilst fishing for muskies was fun, these 2 lakes have some awsome bass fishing, we were watching 4 and 5lbers swimmng over the boulders all day...definitely worth a trip again.
