Hey JB Nice unit...i lurve mine. Like henry says....go with the sealed lead acid 12V 7amp. On a full charge mine will last upto 3 trips (my outings are usually 8 hour affairs ), seems to last longer the colder it is out on the ice. I have bought 2 little mains chargers now, and both packed up after a couple of months, so now i just use my main boat battery charger on trickle to charge it, bit cumbersome clipping the large aligator clips to the tiny terminals, but works fine. I also used a homemade bracket for my skimmer transducer for the first winter i had it as the 'iceducer' arrived after the ice had left....lol......but its well worth the extra $60-$70 in my opinion, way less spaghetti hanging around and easy to pack /deploy. ENJOY BUDDY....THEY ARE THE WAY TO GO ON THE ICE......and now you can join in the fun arguing with the vex/marcum/hummingbird flasher brigade...hehehehe

Went out for 3 hours with Dave(my father inlaw) to jig for trout(lakers) Was a slow day compared to recent trips and we got 3. sods law was in full effect because we could not catch one under 22" for our 4th keeper, we hauled in 3 more after the third which were between 23" and 26"....but not complaining......just funnyhow getting that final keeper often seems to be near impossible when your'e trying for it.....lol. All in all a great few hours with 8 trout caught. Great fun seeing the fish attack our bait on the fishfinder as we were anchored up in 60' or so of water, and on light spinning rods with nothing but a 1/4 jig and medium minnow the trout give a good acount of themselves. Fish were through the whole water column as were the schools of baitfish, some of the baitfish clouds were huge. At one point i even wtched a trout dissipate the cloud on the graph as it swam into it...pretty cool to watch on a fishfinder. DAVE'S FIRST LAKER

Hi all, Took my father inlaw and his brother to lac Seul for some walleye.He's from down south (Dorchester) and his brother lives across the lake from us here in Dryden. Had promised some good fishing and the old lake did not dissappoint. Only thing is the father in law is the original Archie Bunker, complains about everything.....and he is the first person i've been with on Lac Seul to complain about the fishing!!! We had to laugh, he was getting stressed about having to throw back all the 21" - 28" fish we were catching. I kept telling him that we would get our limit of keeper size and to shut up whining...relax, and enjoy catching some big walleye whilst slowly reaching our limit....lol...but i think he just likes whinging...strangely enough it is what i like about him most...its very entertaining. We did keep 3 overslot size fish just to keep him quiet in the end...something i dont like to do normally....why kill a big breeding brute when you'll geta small one eventually...and even if ya dont...you can always come back. Anyway.....first reef we went to was very slow. Second spot took 20 mins to locate the side of the reef the fish were on....we then anchored up and the bite was on fire. All were using 3/8 ounce jigs and minnows....we had a couple dozen 5"/6" sucker minnows too which were popular with the big walters.....also popular with Jackfish too unfortunately. The fish were hugging so close to bottom you could not see any on the graph.,but with the anchor down you could watch your jig go down and entice them up off the bottom. Thanks for the replies good folks, was a totally awesome trip...... Cheers Glen, certainly felt different seeing trees other than birch and pine....lol...almost forgot there are other types. The figs were good...but the plums were like candy! Hey Jim, it felt very expensive this time round. When we lived in England it cost $50 return fair on the car ferry across the English Channel and about $200 bucks gas ....you can drive there from England in under 12hrs. Now with the air fare and travel times its definitely more of an undertaking...mind you the baby was absolutely amazing on the plane(s) slept most of the time. The real kicker now is that the French have been steadily bumping up their prices since they adopted the single European currency (the 'Euro'), couple that with the fact that its almost $2 to the Euro.....OUCH! As for whether they prefer France or GWN....France i think. Thanks PF, the figs only got ripe in the last few days we were there......but they all ripen very quickly, one day they are all green, then within 2 days theyt are all ripe. Thanks Jacques, took me forever to get the time to post ....its been a whirlwind since we got back....was really great to see my sister after 4 years. $years also took a toll on my ability to parlais....i can still understand what people were saying(mostly) but ntrying to respond was hard....could not even manage my normal 'Franglais" responses....lol. I gotta get another camera though...cuz i missed out on some fantastic scenery shots...especially the fields and fields of huge sunflowers, ancient architecture.....castles, Chateaux...etc. Italy is also a cool place....lol...would you believe it....the folks have another place there (near the french riviera) The pike were very silvery compared to the ones here in NWO, and i saw some huge Perch too...the European Perch grow to 5lb+ !!! As for the pics...i think they run into BILLIONS....lol......but like i said before...most were crappy because of the faulty camera.

Hi all, Finally got round to posting some holiday snaps our time at our place in the peaceful French countryside. Unfortunately could not take long distant shots the whole time..as my camera is broke, so no scenery shots at all!!??!! plan was to get one duty free at the airport, ended up not having the time, and the ones on sale in France were literally twice as expensive as they would be in Canada. House is an old Nunnery dating back to 1690....don’t think Canada was even born back then....lol...and the converted barn is more recent, probably mid 1800's, our family have owned it for 25 years now. THE HOUSE THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF 'THE BARN' The weather in this part of France in the summer is HOT......HOT.....HOT....and this year was no different...some days it was a little too hot for my liking...36 degrees C in the shade one day!!! Plenty of interesting plants and animals down southwest way.....we have lizards.....all kinds of fancy bugs ( and some more familiar skeeters....lol) lots of grapes, and fig trees around too. PLUM TREES EVERYWHERE POMMEGRANITE TREE BY OUR GATE GRAPEVINES ALL OVER THE HOUSES OUR BABY WAS INTRIGUED BY THE STRANGE NEW PLANTS FIGS GROW HERE TOO SOME RANDOM LIZARD CHOMPING A MOTH A PRAYING MANTIS CHOMPING A CRICKET Like i said it was very , very hot. Most of our time was spent inside the barn where it was cooler or brief dips in the pool. normally w would get out and about the countryside, visit the coast near Bordeaux etc... but things have changed...with our new baby we quickly discovered that it was no longer practical to do a lot of long distance excursions involving long periods outside on blistering hot days, instead short and sweet trips locally were better for everyone. I absolutely loved this holiday, as without work this was the first time since jack was born in march that i had spent so much interrupted time with him........More pictures of him than a 4gb card could hold almost....lol. MOST OF OUR TIME WAS SPENT IN THE POOL OR IN THE BARN WHERE IT’S COOLER OK......lots of baby pics i know...but like i said things change....lol...but not completely...i did manage to go fishing about 4 times in the three weeks we were there. The fishing i used to do is like European 'coarse fishing, those of you who are carp fishermen will be familiar with some of the methods used in Europe, and if you have seen that programme on the fishing shows called fishorama you'll recognize the fishing pole.... POLE FISHING BY THE RIVER DRONNE The fish are very shy here, and because i have no boat there i can only really access where the fishing pressure is highest.....to be blunt...fishing sucked! It did not help that 2 years ago our house there was broken into...and all the tackle i had left there was gone...grrrrrrrrrr , so after dangling maggots on the pole line for the first few days with only a couple of very small fish i broke out my spinning rod I’d packed and tied on my trusty Mepps fury to try for some pike and perch which apparently inhabited the river...with a little more success. DESPITE SEEING MUCH BIGGER CARP AND CHUB CRUISE BY, 2 DAYS YIELDED ONLY A SMALL ROACH AND A SMALL CHUB. THE MEPPS PROVED A WINNER AGAIN THOUGHT I"D BRING MY TOURNEY SIGN FOR FUN EVEN GOT THE BOY TO HAVE A GO...1ST TIME FOR HIM...WAS SOOOOO PROUD BUT MOST OF THE TIME HE JUST CHILLED OUT IN THE SHADE WITH MUM AND HIS BOTTLE OF WATER As you can probably tell from the photographic record...lol...my holiday was all about the baby and family, he got to see Gwampa and Gwamma again and one of my sisters got the train from England for a weekend visit to see her new Nephew...... PLAYING WITH GWAMMA UNDER THE GRAPEVINES FIRST TIME HE"S MET HIS AUNT (my sister) AND 1st TIME IN 4 YEARS IVE SEEN HER TOO Soooo.....not much of a fishing or scenery type report, but i got lots of quality time in beautiful surroundings with family.

Fantastic stuff Jacques...lol....starts off like a "snuff film"...lol....guess i'm not a hunter....YET. Lots of memories in there.....good stuff man! PS...still liking those tip up things you spent so long perfecting!

I'm back from France...and that there is fightin' talk Glen...i cant wait to hit lac seul for some Musky...some nice fat NGLs on Wapagesi...etc...etc....

its a musky anyway.

Hi All, Well i'm off to our holiday home in France on Sunday, gonna be great to see my folks...especially my sisters whom ive not seen since i left 'ole Blighty almost 3 years ago. I have only caught 'vegetarian ' fishees there before....(a fish called a roach which eats friggin moss, Barbel...looks a bit like a carp, and of course...carp) but there are Pike, Zander(bigger cousin of the walleye) and some other toothy critters....and with what ive learned here i will try and put to good use out there....all else fails i'll get some sea bass hopefully on a charter i always take on the Basin D'Arcachon near Bordeaux on the atlantic coast...famed for its oysters (YUK!) Should be back in 4 weeks, just as the walleye and musky start strappin' on the feebags...till then....tight lines!

Hi all, Had a great day yesterday, had to share....lol...such a proud dad here. Was baby Jacks first swimming lesson yesterday, he was too cute (imho) in his little swimsuit CHECK OUT DA MOVES! Jack was by far the youngest in the pool, most of the babies were at least a year old, lots of them were wailing as they went in....water was pretty cold, but jack took it all in his stride....he was a bit unsure at first but was loving it by the end. WHAT THE HELL ARE MUM AND DAD DOING TO ME NOW! Well the weather sucks here this summer, but I’d planned to take a young lad who I mentor out for some trout, so we had some lunch and took off to Thunder Lake. I decided not to take the downriggers as I’d been doing really well using a Jiggin' Rap with a piece of minnow. The lad had never jigged for trout and was pretty hyped ( LOL....he's a very subdued character....so you probably cant tell from the pics.....but he was hyped....lol). I trolled around the 60-70 FOW just near to a shallow ridge until I marked baitfish, then anchored up. Gotta get one of those electric anchor winches...lol...pulling up a 28lb anchor from 70FOW is a chore....lol. FOUND THE BAITFISH...TROUT SHOULD BE NEARBY Wesley was a bit disappointed that I did not have another Jiggin' Rap for him to use and looked a bit dejected when I offered him a plain jig, don’t think he thought I was playing' fair. But before I had tied my rig he was into the first fish. What followed was 20 minutes of fast and furious Laker action. Lots of hits and misses. The kid was loving that he could watch his and my jig on the screen and see the trout chasing his jig up and down. LIMITED OUT IN 20 MINUTES YOU SHOULD SEE HIS FACE WHEN HE'S NOT HAPPY....LOL The God's were smiling on us that day, because we got out in a break in the lightning storms, and no sooner than our 4th keeper was in the wind whipped up the whitecaps and thunder flashes all around...so it was a short but sweet fishing trip. The bonus to the short trip was I got back before babies bedtime and had the chance to be goofy with him before bed. HIS GIGGLE JUST KILLS ME! Great day with baby...always is, and some pretty good trout fishing thrown in....like I said.....LIFE IS GOOD!

whats the worst that could happen, apart from having to catch Marlin instead of muskie for a few years, cuz catching marlin, giant grouper, yelowtail, shark, trevali, permit, bonefish, tarpon, barracuda (barracuda on topwaters is better than bass in my humble opinion)in the beautiful carribean whilst doing the job you love sucks right?? Seriously Rich, i'm like a lot of peope you already mentioned.....GO FOR IT!!!!!! But seriously....ask yourself whats the worst that could happen?
