  1. Sure thing Glen....you live in Newfoundland right?...i could tell by your accent....
  2. Hi All...finally got on the ice today after many false starts. Was meant to be going to the Red River in Manitoba for greenback walters...but it got cancelled. So decided last night to hit a local lake with my buddy...he could only go for an hour....in the morning...not the best time for the walleye on that lake, and so no surprise we skunked. SKUNKED AT THE FIRST LAKE WITH MY BUDDY LEW....GREAT TO GET OUT THOUGH! I was all fired up after getting on the ice so when i got home i went out the front of the house. Got out a good way for early on...but ice thickness started to change so was fairly close in , in around 9' FOW. NOT AS FAR OUT AS I'D HAVE LIKED....BUT A START Got 3 very small Jackfish...and missed 2 walleye bites, not bad for an hour in a spot i was kinda forced to accept given ice conditions. Great thing was i got my first fish of the season on a jigging rap. That is a season target already acomplished with the first fish. I have armed myself with a whole heap of different spoons , darters, jiggin raps....as i want to expand my horizons past the good 'ole ji and minnow......even though that works pretty darn good! 3 SMALL JACK TO GET ME OFF THE MARK Goin over to Lew's for supper tonite, i'm gonna work on getting him out tomorrow, but i'll go alone for sure anyway....hopefully a walleye full report tomorrow Tight lines all I IS ONE HAPPY CHAPPY TONIGHT!
  3. I was gonna sneak it into my ice hut and hide it if anyone came knocking.....lol But in the end it all got cancelled, oh well....saved myself couple hundred bucks in gas etc..... shame though...would love to try for those big greenback walleye on the Red River one day. Had to settle for an hour in front of the house today.
  4. i dont know anything much about cameras...but i broke an expensive (ish) point and shoot last year that was 7.2 Mp, i replaced it with a very cheap point and shoot that is 10Mp.....the loder 7.2 Mp camera took awesome ,crisp, fantasticly hidefinition pictures...the newer 10mp sucks to be quite honest....SO MP MEANS SQUAT!
  5. You must have missed it Ryan, i did actually post on the 1st page of replies to the post that my buddy was not gonna make it so i decided against it. I'll have a report by Sunday though...my buddy me and have been invited by the Vexilar people to go fishing for greenbacks on the Red River (Manitoba)this saturday while they shoot an episode of Ice fishing Today....should be a blast...hopefully w'ell get some fish too. LOL...thats exactly what happened last year on my first venture out....but hey....at least i was out there
  6. LIKE I"D DO THAT!!!
  7. Hey All, interesting to see the range of opinion. seems like 3 main trends in the reply..... 1) What the hell ya waiting for! 2) Go....but with all the safety equipment and a buddy 3) your nuts....dont go! Well i was intending to go with number 2 option but my buddy could'nt make it....gawd knows he wanted to, so i decided not to go. Guess it all comes down to your own 'personal pucker factor'....lol....and i'd be a puckerin' for sure...not my idea of a relaxing time even if i avoid the icy plunge! Be safe everyone... Cheers Simon
  8. I think what you are referring to is 'the personal pucker factor'
  9. thought i'd try a poll...messed it up....lol Anyway...whadaya think...this is the thickness of ice i have out the front of the house....inched around 10 feet out checking as i went. I'm pretty confident it is pretty much the same thickness all over the bay as it froze all at once....depth of the bay pretty even, and no deeper than 15'. So....should i do it....get an evening icefishing session....lol...i think my mind is already made up actually...just thought i'd throw that out in the forum out of interest. ICE CHUNK I HACKED OUT WITH AN AXE 10 FEET FROM SHORE
  10. Thanks Jedi...laughed so much it hurt!
  11. I"LL DO IT!!!!
  12. Thanks Matt, i'll will some of this cold your way! Thanks buddy, lol....this 'icehole' will post a report soon. Yeah...i bet your dying to be outfished by the one who goes by the name 'LJ' ....just kiddin buddy, glad its good news for you too....its made my life a whole lot more bareable....i'm enjoying the extra time with baby jack...but the fishing withdrawals are bad at the moment. I hope so Chris, not cuz i wanna beat anyone to it...i'm just desperate for some good (or bad) fishing goin nuts waiting! We aint had much snow at all...if it carries on like this i'll be wishin i had an ATV! Yes MPH...i'm on Wabigoon, winters are long and cold...jan /feb probably averages minus 25 C, so you better like icefishing if ya live up here....lol. Anything that wants to bite.....first trip will be walleye, just because trout doesn't open till Jan 1st, next trip out i'll try for whitefish and walleye, but as soon as trout season opens...thats my real icefishing passion. Yeah Ryan, the weather is crazy this year eh? I'll be safe too.....i'm keen....not suicical....lol, always go with a buddy first couple of times out. You taking Avery with ya icefishing again?....i cant wait till Jack is a bit older......god i hope he likes fishing as mmuch as your clan! Yeah, i'm blessed living here....and i get out as often as possible so i dont take it for granted ! Thanks Jacques...looking forward to your reports, you taking your daughter out again...that was an excellent report....i loved that post....you 2 have the exact same smile. LOL...i should steal (oooops...i meant borrow) the Zamboni from the Arena, drive it down Van Horne avenue to the ice road and across to my bay. My wife cleared a patch a couple of years ago....it was tough going to keep it good, flooded it with the auger...but its so freekin' cold the water turned to slush right away usually, not a very even surface,,,,then there's the snow....cant we just ice fish?....lol SHE DID A GOOD JOB, BUT A ZAMBONI WOULD HELP....LOL
  13. Thats freekin' hilarious Mr. Mercer my wife is still laughing.
  14. Thats not too bad really...i sometimes pay a $10 fee to use lakes in Provincial Parks up here....its just a shame that the reason for introducing the fee is some peoples total disrespect for the very environment they are out supposedly enjoying. Did make me think how they know its 'Out of Towners' responsible.......i know up here its definitely mostly a few local idiots that mess up a couple of spots i go to....which really ticks me off.
  15. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.......thats a sigh of relief Woke up this morning to the wonderful sight of a completely iced over lake....its been a long time coming. Its amazing how just a slight variation in weather conditions produces such a dramatic transformation within hours. Our lake has been ready to go for weeks now. Its started to ice up only for warmer temps to kick in and wind to dissipate what ice had formed. last week saw temperatures dip quite a bit, was minus temps during the day (average -3 or 4) with minus 10 during at night, only problem was the northerly winds bringing the cold air were pretty strong so only the back bays were skimmed. Last night saw the wind finally drop and by the time the light was fading you could see the ice forming in the main bay right before your eyes...it was that quick! After snapping a few pictures in front of the house i was pumped and I decided to go check out a couple of walleye lakes within 20 mins drive from me and those lakes were encouraging too.....only around 1-2 inches on all.....and that was close to shore.....but if the 5 day report is accurate i'll be drilling holes by next weekend. I'll be wearing my PFD and icepicks though and wont be going alone....even with this late ice up ( 3 weeks later than last year) i aint gonna risk my life for the sake of fishing, i'm good on 4 inches of black ice...new ice.....anything less i'll wait a couple more days thanks....lol. WEATHER FOR THE NEXT 5 DAYS....HOPEFULLY IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE THIS MORNING SMALL LAKE 10 MINUTES AWAY ANOTHER LARGER LAKE 20 MINS AWAY RAN INTO THIS GUY HUNTING CRITTERS ON OUR DRIVEWAY COMING HOME Cant wait till next weekend.......i'll be inching my way out all week checking ice thickness in front of the house, i'll be tying a rope round the small pine you can see in the first pic though!
  16. Too funny Ryan! and true......lol Love that pick of Avery with her arm around the wee lad...looks like she's imparting fishing knowledge...classic pic! Cheers dude hope Santa brings ya that spare time regards Simon

  24. I am looking for Powerbait Micro Tubes, ive searched Cabelas, Bass Pro and quite a few more online shops but to no avail. I love these little tubes...awesome on the ice for a range of species....i've even caught big(ish) Lakers on them.
