LOL...i'm a lucky man...never had to sneek out before. I did once have to pretend i was going fishing though when i wasn't....lol. Last march my wife's friends were havinbg a surprise baby shower for her...i had to think of an excuse that was beleivable to get out of the house without her and help set up. Going fishing was believable....only prob is, because it was March i had to put the snowmachine on the trailer, flip over shack in the truck...the whole works...even left the house wearing my Sorels and bib pants....carrying a cooler full of minnows! She was kinda pissed that i was being that devious... lol

Excellent! !st fish of the year is sweet....dont matter what or how big. I hear ya about fish that are shy of commitment....they need relationship therapy...they need to learn to love that hook. Good job Jacques now stop whittling sticks (although they are great looking lures) and get out some more!

Nice work Skud...i was simalarly thinking i let supper go the other dsy too, but i got a couple 18-20" right at the end....not had one as nice as your supper yet though this year...great report. I also am lovin' the shad raps this year.

Yup...same Ministry....lol. I insisted she get the babysitter and come out...she needed the break even though she could not see it. We are lucky guys, some of my buddies cant believe how relaxed my wife is about me going fishing so often. Its gonna change drastically for me in a bout 2 months when my wife is off maternity leave and we are both working again..finally my son will get to know who i am....lol. next 2 days are repairs to the 'Taj Wabigoon....i've put a beating on it so far...need to patch the canvas in a few places already! Thanks Jacques..you could say you should never look a gift horse in the mouth, but i dont want my wife thinking i called her a horse....LOLOLOLOL....very bad idea. LOL...obviously not sharp enuff. Thanks JDS....how did you know i was Jewish?....lol I'm out saturday same as you....we'll be on Big Sandy....you'll be so close we'll probably hear each others augers.....lol Ya...missing your one shot in a day is the worst! hi all, well had a good weekend of fishing even if it did not go ato plan really. Saturday actually went out fishing with my wife, i have a report and video to do for that as it mysteriously got wiped off my desktop today. Report to follow. Was great to get out with my wife, its been a year and a half since we went fishing together...although i could tell she was nervous the whole time about leaving our baby with a babysitter for the first time...even though it was our neighbours. Because i had planned to go with a buddy on Sunday too i was not going to be able to make 3 out of 3 days...i'm a dad now after all...and even though i was forbidden to go by the Ministry Of Time Allowed On the Ice (aka the missus) i would not have gone cuz believe it or not i like time with the family too. Only thing that sucked about this was that i was gonna miss the opportunity to get out with BenBeattie for trout...oh well Ben...soon. In fact if you read this we are gonna try the dreaded Big Sandy Skunk Factory on Saturday (16th)...interested? After saturday's outing with my wife, I was meant to go on Sunday to Big Sandy Lake , but the guy i was going with was partying hard the night before...never made it out that day. So...i wake up Monday morning with baby wailing and am sitting in the dark on the couch feeding him his bottle...its still dark out there..around 7 am, baby falls asleep again and my wife walks in and says..."i'll take him...you should go fishing" it took a millisecond to react....ok...i' outta here! by 8 am i hit the lake to get to Thunder for trout. I had said i was gonna give Thunder lake a rest for a while...but tis easy access...i wanted to trout fish...and also wanted to be back by 2pm. Here's the video......... I NEED A TRIPOD!

Yeah JDS....seemed to be the ticket when we hit the deeper water, but i hatched an evil plan....lol the water is soooo clear on that lake...the tubes and minnows would attract the trout but the would kinda just nose at it a lot. I let my buddy bring 'em in, then i'd drop my plain jig and small minnow down to where the trout was chasing his jig on the screen and 2 out of three times they';d nail my bait...and you think i was cursing in that vid....LOLOLOL I seen your mess of perch Bruce......nice, fat, tasty ones too.

Hi all, told a friend about the good fishing i had the other day, he wanted to check it out for himself. he is an experienced fisherman but had not fished this local lake before. He also just started renting an appartment on the lake so we set off from his landing...which is pretty cool cuz now i dont have to pay $10 this summer at the boat launch! We caught lots of fish (lol...i did catch fish too...just too busy filming my buddy....HONEST!) Did try some deeper water too (90FOW). only difference was that there were fewer baitfish out deeper, but when the bait came through there was always around 3 or 4 trout circling right along with it, not so in the shallower 60FOW, bait fish on screen the whole time at that depth with trout moving in periodically. We also caught a lot of Ling, i kept a big one i got , mmmmmmmmmm....best eating fish in my opinion. BROKE MY NEW YEAR RESOLUTION ALREADY....MORE BLEEPING I"M AFRAID

Trout not open where you are? We did that last year , was fun. We are gonna try again this year. But if ya wanna get out sometime without the crowd too im up for that as well. There are a couple of other "tobans" i know from the iceshanty.com website....they plan to hook up with us this year too....might be Feb on Shoal Lake for whities. Hi all, Finally got out for some Lakers, its been a usual thing for me to get out Jan 1st for opener, but -40c and the head cold from hell and family stuff delayed me by a WHOLE 4 DAYS! nearly killed me....lol. So....got a window of opportunity yesterday afternoon.....and i can get to the trout lake by sled right from our house....I'M OUTTA HERE! Set up pretty much where i fished last year....65 FOW, various spoons, tube jigs, plain jigs used.....live baits from small to large minnows and some 6" sucker minnows used too....just playing with different styles and presentations....got hits on all the different combinations....fish were not fussy. Tons of smelt on the screen all day....really cool watching a dark orange signal move through the darker blue clouds of bait fish.....come right through and smack my jig just above the bait fish mark....AWESOME. Here's my vid for the couple hours i spent out, missed a few, released a few....kept 2....not much better than that except landing one over 10lbs which i still have not accomplished on the ice or in the boat....maybe this year. NEW YEARS RESOLUTION, WATCHING MY LANGUAGE ON VIDEOS....A COUPLE OF SLIP UPS...HALF BLEEPED
