  1. Welcome to the best fishing board I know of. NAW has some very good advice. Some equipment you're going to need Ice auger - 6" is big enough for perch ice scoop to clean out your hole Minnow pail & minnows Dip net for the minnows unless U like cold hands 28" - 32" jigging rod, mounted with a small spinning reel spool said reel with 4 lb ice line a variety of small jigs & small jigging spoons a few small split shot sinkers don't forget a pail to put all your fishin!! (you're allowed to keep 50 perch)
  2. I bought a new Bird 798 with side image & down scan. Love this unit.
  3. Nice! Keep the pix coming as u progress. Thanx
  4. Nice pix, thanx for sharing. Good to be on the water in late December, I really wish it were icing up though!
  5. Thanx for sharing. Those r some healthy looking walleye!
  6. BPS used to sell Canada Goose. Not sure if they still do. I haven't been there for a while. Try on line. Gander Mountain, Cabelas??
  7. Good to see the ice. Bonus u got a couple of fish. Your tip up "contraption" is unique. I see there are different settings for the line placement. Is that for smaller to heavier fish?
  8. I applaud the efforts of Mr. Fedeli as he is working to help the tourist operators. I would question the statement of 100,000 kilos consumed by cormorants. How is a quantity like this obtained?
  9. I've never seen or heard of speckled trout in Simcoe. Must be another Lake Simcoe??
  10. It would be under powered in my opinion. As I stated above 30 hp, on my Lund, 1 person & gear 29 Mph. 2 guys & their gear 22 Mph. The days of a 14' with 9.9 hp are gone unless it is a very lightweight boat. The deep & wide are much heavier, more stable boats, downfall is they require more power. Previously I owned a 14' gamefisher. Much lighter boat. My 15 hp Johnson was plenty fast enough. Hope this helps u make the right decision.
  11. Good luck Chad, hope u get some. How's the ice forming?
  12. I own Bird ice 55, Love it!! Can watch my bait go down to say 40 feet, see fish suspended at 22', reel up to them, wham! fish on! Even watch whitefish come up from the bottom to smack my lure at 20'! What a rush! Never used it in deep water so, sorry can't help u with that question. Get the ice 55 well worth the $$$.
  13. I just returned from Fort McMurray. -20 & -25 every day, -32 at night, 3' of frost in the ground & 2' of snow BRRR! Oh yah & we worked every day! Guys are ice fishing in Ft Mac with 4x4 trucks on the ice! Woo Hoo
  14. Should add it's 16 years old & doesn't leak a drop! Used Lunds sell very quickly on kijiji & very few listed for sale!
  15. I bought a 1996 big fisherman, it's 2" wider than the new Lunds, weighs 265 lbs. Rides & steers very nicely. It has 5 keel strips on the hull as well as splash rails on each side. Most boats have only 3 keel strips,so U may want to consider this feature.
  16. I just returned from Fort McMurray. 2' of snow, 3' of frost in the ground, -20 during the day, -32 at night. Right in Fort Mac guys are ice fishing & running on the ice with 4x4 trucks!!
  17. I bought a 14' Lund this past summer. Absolutely love it! It's powered with a 30Hp Suzuki, goes 29 mph with me & my gear. I think a 15 would be a little slow, especially with 2 guys & their gear, but that's my opinion. I would also suggest a bount mount electric if u plan to do some trolling. I also purchased the bow mount with the ipilot (remote control). I can control the motor from any position in the boat. Love the Lund & the ipilot. Good luck shopping
  18. During the hardwater season I put my minnows in a large plastic tote out in the garage. I have a small pump used to spit water from an ornamental turtle from my fish pond. I raise the discharge hose out of the water so it splashes & creates bubbles. Minnows are good for several weeks. Very few will die. If your water is too warm just add some ice cubes. Hope this helps for the future.
  19. Thanx Ben, that vid is awesome! I'd like to put a video together but I gotta catch some fish first!!
  20. Nice pix, thanx for sharing. That toothy cuda is awesome!
  21. Sad to see it come to this. It's the tourist operators i feel sorry for. Nip was once a great fishery. Having said that I fished Nip several times last winter for the first time. I was fortunate enough to catch walleye & some nice sized perch. It's all about location!!
