spining reels for ice fishing - any good ones?
Uncle Buck replied to jat's topic in General Discussion
i run quantum icon 20 ( 4 of them) use them year round, never had any issues -
less pressure on your tilt/trim seals if it's stored in a down position... that's my logic...

MArketing Ploy... Vex came out with it to knock Marcum down... vex is 400W, Marcum is 2000W Look at it this way... the more $$ you spend on a sonar, the more wattage it has... if wattage will drive fish away, why aren't the $1000+ sonars 500W PAthetic to be honest with you... Vex's inferior product and lame marketing... here's the new marketing ad on their site

ironic that every time someone buys something fishing related from the states/big box store, he gets jumped on for not supporting his local tackle shop... yet you buy foreign cars and all is well... and no one raises a stink... how many people does a local tackle store employ compared to a local manufacturing facility... nice to see that most are for many losing their jobs... hope they show the same pride if/when their time comes...

wait till boat trailer manufactures start doing the same thing... imagine how much they would have made these last couple of years with the whole slew of folks buying US boats...

Think they have many Fords/GMs/Chrsylers in Japan/India/China etc?? how many "Foreigners" do you see driving one of the big 3 made vehicles? they support their own, we don't My opinion is some sort of bailout must happen, or the economy will collapse... however, my thoughts would be get rid of all the execs... and cap imports of part/assemblies/etc to 10% and monthly audits to make sure this is happening. give mfg a chance in North america and their sales will go back up and they'll dig themselves out of this... lets shut down the plants overseas, not the ones in our backyard!!

Can you snap some pics of the tank...

SHipped from Manitoba... called a couple of times and they said it was shipped... asked for a manager and they wouldn't give him to me... said to leave my name and number and never got a call back... as for the camera, it was $159.99 CDN on Cabelas.ca, and 199.99 USD on the US site so worked out under $190 CDN to shipped to the door... Lucky me, i have an amazing Girlfriend, it was a early christmas gift

I've got a Marcum LX5... I'd hold off on a humminbird for a few seasons to see the "field reviews" it gets from real anglers, not pro-staff marcum vs vex... even though only the lx5 comes with a dual cone, it's still an option for a vex.... **** vex is like a car, buy it, then start adding options... s-cable, charging system, case etc... Marcum comes good to go out of the box... only place where vex beats marcum is depth... max depth on marcum is 160ft, 200 on a vex... vex is living off it's name... the fl20 was a dissappointment to many vex fans... the differences between the fl18 vs the fl20 weren't worth the wait... i did research before buying the marcum, and hands down marcum was the way to go... i believe that they are both around the same price, but then start adding options then the vex becomes more expensive... Marcum has as a standard unit: more wattage 2000 vs Vex's 400 ( vex guys say to much wattage isn't good, look at regular fishfinders, the more expensive, the more wattage... it also helps with interference rejection...) soft cover case ( optional on a vex) digital charging system with lcd display (not 4 leds like a vex) dual cone transducer ( no optional s-cable required) dual cone changes at the press of a button, no need to change transducers finer resolution (up to 3/4"... not that it makes a difference too much...) adjustable zoom throughout the entire water column ( vex only has bottom lock) 12 level interference rejection (10 levels on a vex...) granted they both help catch fish, but dollar for dollar, a marcum gives you a lot more difference between an lx3 and lx5 is wattage (1200 vs 2000)and dual cone transducer on the lx5... the flasher will last you a long time, my opinion is spend the $$ now and you don't need to upgrade in the future... when i was lookin, i researched long and hard, and i wasn't biased to vex or marcum... the facts say it all the... marcum lx5 gives you best bang for your buck...

Ordered an Underwater camera for the upcoming hardwater season... Went through Cabelas.ca/SIR because it was quite a bit cheaper in price as compared to Cabelas.com Ordered the Camera on the 13th of Novemeber, recieved the camera on Friday the 28th... Camera was picked up from Cabelas/SIR on the 26th.... very dissappointing service compared to the US internet orders i've had in the past... 3 to 7 days as specified on the site and it took 15 days to get it..., it took them 2 weeks to even ship it out... Not impressed with their service buyer beware if you need something quick

Can you use a regular reel on an ice fishing rod?
Uncle Buck replied to sneak_e_pete's topic in General Discussion
I use my 20 size reels... (quantum icon 20) i have 4 of them and they get year round use... -
I'll third that...

Check with TJ, he sells snow shoes
-
That's freakin Awesome!!!

They Look Great, i'd however wait a year or 2 to see what kind of reviews they get and to see how they last... which marcum do you have? I've got an LX5 and see no reason to "upgrade" all in all, any flasher will help you put more fish on the ice... vex is like the lowrance of flashers... good unit, overpriced, lacking features, living off it's name rather then innovations
-
i'd say go with 2 seperate units... price wise it'll be the same or close to a bigscreen, except when you run splitscreen your screen will be less then 2 regular size units... plus if one dies, you'll always have a back up... my 2 cents worth... oh yeah, and i'd go with humminbird, more wattage for less $$

Clam hands down

watch out with online purchases on these things... not sure if this is this place's sales gimmick but... http://redrockstore.com/Catalog/index.php?...ion=show_detail just an fyi... i almost pulled the trigger, then read this...

Bail the little guys out... its been enough off bailing out the big guys... Automakers/steel plants/etc... it's those companies that knowingly screw the little shops... shut em down!!! give them a taste of their own medicine I'm Anti-Union also!!

Many use the Church Walleye Boards... you don't need a "special" clip for them... I've never used them, i run off shores with the OR18 upgrade not cheap for sure
-
great, they already cost an arm and a leg, i can only imagine how expensive these new ones are gonna be... look good though...
