Even when he wasn't your friend.....he was your dad. Be the bigger man and go mend the fence. My parents split in 1980 (I was 6) and I haven't really had a dad since. We visited every year but as I grew older some years were skipped. After University I went out West with my girlfriend and lived with my dad for a year. He has been a good buddy but a terrible dad. Lucky for me I had my maternal Grandpa who was "my superhero" growing up. He taught me all the things a dad was supposed to. I wish he was here right now.

Sorry Clayton, I misread the article. I thought that was the native harvest? I will edit my posts. How do they estimate the recreational angler harvest? With creel surveys? I may see one volunteer doing them once per season. Likewise I guess they would have to rely on estimating the non complying natives who are not registered. Am I correct about the size of the regulated net squares (3")? I remember hearing that they were made bigger a few years back.

Yes Joey you can keep 2 walleye 18" and above.

As a Nipissing angler I care about the walleye and I am o.k. with 2 fish limit but I think anglers should be able to catch and keep 2 walleye. If I catch a 19" and a 14" what's wrong with that? I will not squawk about the Native rights to fish commercially as it is their right. Is there over-fishing? absolutely. What is over-fishing? Lots of anglers caught lots of walleye (mostly small) this winter. Those smaller walleye swim through the 3" x 3" squares in the nets. The 18"+ fish do not. I will focus my angling on pike, muskie, bass, and perch this year. I will keep some walleye but not target them as often.

Hot off the MNR "Stupid Ideas" List.... Walleye catch limit stays the same but keepers have to be over 18". I only caught 2 all winter over 18"!!!!!!!!! They are abandoning the slot size. Anglers on Lake Nipissing will still be able to keep a maximum of two walleye next year if the Ministry of Natural Resources draft management plan is implemented as presented for public input today.But only those walleye over 46 centimetres (18 inches) can be kept in a bid to save a fishery described as "stress and at high risk of significant decline."Opening bass 1 week earlier.Recognizing the importance of the recreational fishery to the local economy, Ontario is also proposing to open the bass season one week earlier, on June 21, 2014.

My bad, I tried to blow up the picture as the colour looked like pike but I thought the head looked like a musky. I got a 43" Northern through the ice and it was a crazy fight. We can certainly try for some musky, there are a few good spots in our location and on the Sturgeon river. PM me closer to the May long weekend.

Brad, do you have waterfront? We have a nice marina at our park and I usually have the boat in the water. I see the musky in your profile pic, just turns out I have no one in the park to throw baits with. They are all walleye anglers. The link I have in my posts is my buddy Danny Columby. He is one of the best musky guides on Nipissing. He boated 66 musky for his clients last year.

Pulled my 8x11 hut on and off the lake with my truck this year. 1st time I have been able to do it both ways. We tackled it early this morning with -24 temps. No slush and once we got it out of the drifts that were around it then we had smooth cruising. Still close to 40" of ice on the lake.
