Can't Believe This Happen... Update - Repaired!!!
Nipfisher replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
Jacques, if that one catches more fish than the others I'd break a few more of them. Repair job looks great. -
http://www.firstrowsports.tv/sport/boxing-wwe-ufc.html This one has worked for me the last few times. Not sure about tonight as it hasn't started but looks like it will.

Vinny, you could go with one of the Showdown models if it is specifically for the ice. Showdown flasher I bought the PP1 portable kit for my HDS5 (Terry has the same one) and it has a digital flasher on it as well as a real time column. I can watch a 1/8 oz jig 1 inch off bottom in 15 fow.

This is a Dccember 9th picture of Kenogami Lake which is located 3 hours North of North Bay, along Hwy. 11, near Kirkland Lake. There is already 1 hut out in the narrows with reports of 6" of solid ice. My brother in law caught 7 pike and 1 perch on his 1st outing yesterday afternoon. His buddy caught a few keeper walleye the night before. As of today Lake Nipissing has about 500' of ice (wind blown but solid) along the city shore and the marina is once again frozen over.

Ya I noticed he asks CRAPPIE questions.

How about Lake Nosbonsing or Talon Lake in North Bay? Both should have what you are looking for. Lake Nipissing has about 100 of the resorts you seek from West arm, to Callander Bay, to South Shore. Fishing is good but you have to work. However the dates you mentioned in your OP are perfect for Nipissing.

what song are you listening to right now???

It is Dana. Sounds like his typing. Acvtually I cheated and followed the link to his youtube channel. What can I buy with 1000 OFC bucks? Can I purchase a guided ice trip with Rod Caster for that much? -
Speak for yourself Chad. I will be fishing on Callander Bay on the 1st. The operator's are cautious about puting their commercial huts out until there is 8-10" of ice. Call the operator you are booked with and ask how late they will allow you to cancel and re-book. They may be all full for the 1st couple weeks.

My hut had white vinyl siding on it when I bought it. I was concerned about white on white snow but my hut has reflectors on every side. It shines in the head lights. Make sure your hut is visable to smowmobilers!

Why not use the jack-alls you said you have to lift it up and block it? Then you can apply the styrafoam from underneath. It wont help much with the runners but you could get the foam done on your own or with the help of your father in law. I just repaired one of my runners this week. I jacked up each side of my hut and blocked it up. Laying on my back I was able to remove and re-attach the plastic runner by myself..

Jedimaster..."cougar" hunting requires tight pants and slick moves on the dance floor. There are some favourable venues in North Bay where I have hunted. Before I was married....of course.

Search kijiji and other classifieds for cushions from a tent trailer or older trailer. They work perfect for bunks/benches. I use Therm-a-rests for mine. They inflate to about an inch thick. When not in use they roll up and fit inside a storage cooler I have in the hut. If you lok back to the pictures I posted of the Nipissing gtg on Callander Bay you will see that my benches/beds fold down from the wall. They are supported by straps and legs. I made them 24" wide and 6' 5" long. Couch cushions can be cut down to a better thickness but it is a bit messy.

sneak-e-pete check out the Torbay cottages website and view their beach cam. You will see the last 24 hours. http://www.torbay.net/ No ice yet. This past Sunday the marina at the waterfront was iced over with a skim, but that is gone now I believe. This blurb was taken from the daily blog posted on http://www.greeningbay.com/index.phtml "Yesterday we had some very light flurries and more overnight but only went down to -4 by the water. North Bay is claiming -8. It's too windy to form ice but yesterday morning part of Greening Bay had some. It's too dark just yet to see but I'm going out on a limb and saying there's a small build up of ice shards along our shoreline this morning. " If you keep checking these 2 sites you will be kept abreast of the conditions. Her daily fishing reports are excellent once the season starts. My guess is it will get realy cold (minus 20s) between the 25th and the 1st. My prediction is I will be fishing on Callander Bay on the 1st. Might not have my shack out but I wuill find some safe ice.

I run fly reels on all my tip-ups. When a fish pulls down the tip it can run with the line. Here is a picture of one of my tip-ups in front of my old hut.

Makes you wish you had a fire hydrant in your back yard too doesn't it Paul? -
If crazy exagerated guesses will get me in your boat I say it is at least 65" long. Nice musky. Maybe a new catch and release record?
-
That close up of him sleeping is super cute. Just watch out he doesn't fall in an augered hole.

That Coors Light doesn't appear to be "cold certified"

Rod Caster had this thread last winter. some nice shacks on this site. My new one is on the 2nd page. Ice shacks home made or not

Go ahead and build it big and heavy. Just go buy a farm jack "jack-all" from Canadian Tire for $80 (was on for $50 last week). I have no promblem with mine but don't leave it for more then a couple weeks without making sure it is lifted up high. I use chunks of 4x4 to hold up my hut from freezing into the ice. I have heard of people using ice blocks to hold up their huts but never tried it myself. Just have an ice cream pail at the hut and fill it with lake water and you can make al the blocks you need. I may try it this year as they do not need to be claened up at seasons end.
-
Those are some solid runners. Great start to the hut process. If weight is not an issue then you are doing it right in my books. I pay a tilt-n-load tow truck to move mine twice each year. I store it for free at the end of my road so I can work on it durring the summer/fall.

All this jigging stuff! I'll use about 30 Octopus hooks in chartruse. 4-5 dozen split shots, probably 30 dozen emerald shiners or more and my trusty "door stop" style tip-ups. I'll only jig occasionally from inside my nice warm shack. Gonna try some of the salted smelt that we caught this year. Looking for a 40" northern this winter. I am a lazy fisherman. I use my Jiffy 3hp gas auger and drive right to the shack.
