  1. Just to support Dave and stick it to non-believers. I have a Northern mounted on my livingroom wall that was caught through the ice in 2006. It was 43 and 3/4 inches long and weighed just over 22 lbs. If you all want to guess the weight....go ahead. I know what it weighed and don't really give a crap what you think about it. ****That is the hook and 8 lbs. line I caught it on in the corner of the mouth.**** Nice 22 pound pike for the young lad Dave.
  2. Come to North Bay. We're good to go here. We need an ice fishing emoticon!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Even HE had tough walleye days.
  4. Great post G. This will be my 1st Christmas with out my Grandfather. My hero. We lost him this summer at the age of 97. He was more like a father to me having been the major male influence in my life since I was 6. This will also be the 1st Chritmas in the last 6 years that my Mom will get her 3 sons all together for Christmas dinner (26th). Due to family obligations and traditions my younger brother always spends Christmas with his wife, boys, and in-laws in Cambridge, then heads North for New Years. Unfortunately my wife, boys, and I head South after Christmas to prepare for our "kid friendly" New Years Eve Party (and of course Nipissing opener on Jan 1st.). Merry Christmas to all of you, especially your families.
  5. I was going off of Radioworld prices on line. What is a good price for oner used?
  6. The article stated...... shipments were already sent to Nipissing and Temagami regions. The ban takes affect in 2012 so what was already ordered / purchased and delivered is still o.k.
  7. What would be a good price on a used HDS-8 that is 2 years old (no winter use)? My buddy is upgrading to the Gen2 and will sell his to me for a decent price. What do you all think? New they are still advertised for $1600.
  8. North Bay bait shops started advertising today. "Emerald Shiners". Wonder how long they will have them for?
  9. Excellent. Your family is gonna enjoy 2012 ALOT more then 2011. Best wishes.
  10. Nice little eye there Pope.
  11. With the ice finally forming on Lake Nipissing it is time to start organizing the 2nd annual OFC Lake Nipissing GTG. Last year we had about 15 members attend. I am suggesting that we hold it the last weekend in January with the Saturday being the 28th. We will once again use my hut as the home base and fish around it. I am willing to do all the organizing along with some assistance from my trusty sidekick Rod Caster. We will arrange for the bar-b-que (Randy from Sturgeon?) and fire up some hot dogs, and hamburgs. I will try to assist anyone with finding sleeping accomodations at local hotels if needed. I am trying to initiate the process for this year so comments regarding date or your ability to attend are welcome. If you are a North Bayite and want to assist it would be greatly appreciated. 12. Fidel's hat had a red star I believe.
  13. Rizzo, you're welcome in my hut anytime. You ever get up to Nipissing P.M. We can stare at the tip-ups all day. Sometimes we just let the perch pull on the minnows. Not worth running outside sometimes if you know it's a perch.
  14. On certain days dead sticking is the most productive. We generally have one tip-up out (dead sticking) with just a split shot and hook and shiner while we jig inside. However when the herring (cisco) are biting they will hit the jigs. Kind of a pain in the butt because the stink. Perch can be caught on either. There are times when a Sweedish Pimple or Williams will get you some eyes. Usually the big ones.
  15. Need emerald shiners for walleye on Nipissing during the winter. My guess is we will see prices of $10-12 a dozen when the supply starts to run out.
  16. Yikes on the wolf fish. I think Ling are cute now. Great photos.
  17. bigger / taller tank? Sereiously, I would try trimming it back to half way and see if it grows again or toss the plant if it wasn't too expensive.
  18. My ice lines have the Northland Bionic line on some and Fireline Ice on the others. Both in 8 pounds test. I prefer the fireline Ice to the Bionic but I just put the Bionic on last year with about 2 weeks in the season so I'll continue to try it out. Bionic line They have the new fluorosilk and braid out but I just have the regular line. FireLine I bought the Fireline Micro Fused Ice Crystal and will give it a go as soon as I can. I have used the FireLine in the past and have been impressed.
  19. +4 today here in North Bay. Not ideal conditions for making ice.
  20. My answer would be to see how many vehicles are out where you are going. Although there are some crazies who will venture out on unknown ice, most of the locals understand the ice and will drive out ost of the season. I drive my 2004 Ford Explorer Sporttrac on the ice as soon as I feel there is safe ice. Usually around 8-10". Let me know when/where you are fishing I can give you a good idea before you come.
  21. Nippissing Cam At the bottom of the page click on the beach cam. Nip is frozen a long ways out.
  22. Will you have to be sitting or bending down to see out the windows? Nice to have at least one up at standing height. Maybe frame one into the door?
  23. Great video. Looks like you have a great set-up.
  24. It is about the fishing....not the catching. Good times with Jack. No fish required. If Alex (my 8 year old) comes out with me he brings his game system and hardly even fishes, but it is all good.
