  1. Fishhunter I wish I would of know sooner> I would of drove the 4 hrs to go on sunday but I'm taking some friends fishing that day.And why the f@%K are you advertising here anyway?
  2. I get minnows at my local tackle shop for free, only thing is there dead. So I take em home and salt them put 2 or 3 dozen in a ziplock sandwich bag and away I go. Works just as good as GULP. But GULP is an awesome product use it all the time. Salted minnows on a jig and twister tail fool those walters all the time. By the way the minnows I get are free.
  3. Thanks for the info Coldh20. Hey Bills whats up buddy? You fall out of bed this morning.
  4. I'm a thermos guy myself. Grind some good beans and make a real coffee. I drink mine black. Thats why I don't drink Tims, there coffee is crap. I know all you timmies guys are mostly double double. Two tablespoons of sugar and about 4oz of cream, guess that makes it drinkable. I think I'm in trouble now, haha. Just my opinion.
  5. The excitement of a road trip and fishing with good buddies, eating good food, not necessarily healthy. Scoffing back some beers and ribbing each other for a few days is the best. It's the trip home that really sucks, even though I'm looking forward to getting home.
  6. My buddy who flyfishes told me to always wear a hat and glasses when flyfishing. For safety reasons. Think I will take his advicce on that.
  7. I use the smallest float I can get away with when using a live bait rig for pike. But you also have to remember to not set the hook just because your float has went down. Alot of times if you sucker gets skiddish he can pull your float down on his own. when my float goes down I usually click my reel to freespool and see if line is being pulled off my reel, if it is it's lock wait to feel the weight, load and set the hook with a long low sweep motion rather than a monster hookset you would use when flipping for bass.
  8. I love to be out very early in the morning. I know I am right on schedule when I'm hooking my boat up and the robins are flying around and its still dark out. I usually have to take the dog cause my buddies want to go at 7 or 8 am. Man I have been on the water 2 or 3 hrs by then. Its the most beautiful time of the day, the air has a fresh smell and the only sound is the birds and hopefully the drag on my reel making music for my ears.
  9. Ah okay, I understand now thanks.
  10. Thanks Bills. Is the reel a level line reel? Not sure what that is but Musky or specs says to stay away from them. I plan to be casting off the deck of my bassboat during those 5am calm as glass situations.
  11. It had that black oil substance running down side.
  12. I recall seeing something similar on a 100 Johnson and the problem was a semi-plugged exhaust port. Once it was all cleaned out everything was fine. My bro owned the motor.
  13. Hey guys, I am going to give fly fishing a try for the first time. I have a fly rod that I won almost 25 yrs ago and have never used it. It still has the shrink plastic on the handle. It's a 8'6 Martin Classic 7/8 wt. Anyone ever heard of it? And would it be okay to use for smallie fishing? All I need is a reel and some line. Theres no fly shops around here but does crappie or walley world sell anything that is worth buying for a newb?
  14. What goes around, comes around. Just remember that when your getting stupid. No one mentioned the tea bag trick.
  15. Maybe take your valuables out of your boat when you are done fishing. Seems to work for me. You will curse that lock and hasp when you kick it in your bare feet or step on it. What kind of locks came with your boat? Are they the flushmount Perko locks that you turn 180 degrees to open?
  16. Going to try my hand at building myself some new twigs this fall. I have been researching galore over the winter. So far I think I like the Rainshadow blanks, they sound great and the price point is looking good too. Of course the St.Croix I am familiar with but I want to try something different. What I want to build is few good rods for bass and pike fishing. Any feedback on Rainshadow or Lamiglass blanks for this application. I'm sure there are a few OFNers who use them. Or is there any other blank I should consider? As far as components go, Ill deal with that later, blanks first. Cheers
  17. Well there was a Pike tournament on the Ottawa last weekend (PembrokeDeep River)and only 9 teams showed up. I guess I'm not the only one that has had a hard time finding them toothy critters. There is usually 25 or more teams entered. The winners took home 900 bucks. There is a 5 fish limit, live release only and the winning weight was get this, around 25 lbs. Usually the weights that win are over 50 lbs and sometimes in the 70 to 80 lb range. I think only one fish weighed in over 10 lbs. I have tried just about everything to catch them and have only caught one decent fish in about six outings. That is why I didn't fish the tourney either. Ive tried spinnerbaits, crankbaits, swimbaits, topwater. trolling deep and shallow. I guess next time out I will try to finesse fish them with jigs and lizards. Ive even tried live bait, big suckers to no avail. I have even went out and located good numbers of small walleye, thinking the pike cant be to far from them, but nothing. Any pike gurus out there with any tips for me to try? I'm about to throw in the towel and just fish lakes this summer. Oh yeah the water level is still about 5 ft lower than normal.
  18. Wire wheel the rusted areas to get rid of the scale and use Tremclad paint. Strain the paint through a strainer filter add a bit of thinner to it and shoot it with a spray gun. A few coats will solve all your rust problems for years to come.
  19. Power wash with water is good for cleaning, then shop-vac up remaining water. For nasty stains like blood or oil I use Spray Nine mixed 4 to 1 with water. 4 part water 1 part spray nine. Spray on and scrub stain with a stiff brush, then vac stain area and rinse with water and vac again.
  20. The FICHT line of motors put OMC into bankruptcy. Need I say more.
  21. Nice gear Mike. There's nothing wrong with using nice gear. There will always be the guy that cant justify spending the cabbage on good equipment. We were all, one of them once, till we had an opportunity to try decent gear. Fancy rods don't catch fish, hmm I have a couple of Crucial jigging rods from the late 80's early 90's that I just pulled out. Serviced the reels, new line and there ready to go. I don't use them very often but theyre a gas. Hey all you need now is a nice custom built rod.
  22. Sinker, for the price of the Merc oil you might as well switch to Amsoil its cheaper and a better product.
  23. I don't know what makes Amsoil so good. But I have been running it in my V6 Merc for 10 yrs and my motor has never seen a mechanic, except for general maintenance. Water pump impellars, and head gaskets every 5 yrs. And the motor is still very strong.
  24. Amsoil. you know the old saying.....Pay now or pay later.
