Another Fantastic Day on Sturgeon - with Fishnsled!!!
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
I'm used to the abuse I get when she outfishes me....which by the way is a LOT...LOL. Yep...I could use her on my team....but she's not in the tourney at all, so at least she can't hurt us...haha Hey Grant!! Great to hear from you again....looking forward to fall piking??? I'd love to join you again on another outing!! -
We hooked up with Fishnsled for a day of fishing today. When I talked to Fishnsled Friday night, we didn't have a target species or even a lake picked out....LOL. Bly and I arrived at his place at 530 this morning. When he asked if we decided where to go, we just laughed. We narrowed it down to either Sturgeon Lake or the Tri-lakes. Fishnsled got a coin and it turned out to be heads.....Sturgeon Lake was our destination. The weather forecast earlier this week said rain on Saturday, but by Friday, it said only a 20% chance. As we arrived at the boat launch it started pouring. Here's Bly surveying the launch...... As we headed out into the lake, the rain lets up...Fishnsled and I start rigging our rods and Bly is throwing a big spinnerbait. Fishnsled looks up and says "Oh..starting out big early??" Literally 2 casts later, Bly yells "FISH ON!!!" It's a muskie....and a fair sized one too! Here's a pic of her bringing it in.... Here's the 'money' shot...her new PB measured in at 38 inches and had a healthy 15 inch girth. So...two weeks ago, she had yet to catch her first..and now this is her 4th....when she decides to catch something...she doesn't fool around....LOL. And back she goes...to swim another day.... The rain was off an on all morning long, but nothing all that driving that it chased us from the lake. Besides...the bite was on, so we didn't mind at all! As far as we were concerned, the sun could stay behind the clouds all day long. Here's some of the other fish we caught in these conditions.... My Bass.... Fishnsled and Bly got into some Walleye....now filleted and in our fridge.... Then Fishnsled put on a bass clinic for us with a few nice ones....they weighed in at just a tad under 3 and 4 pounds. He also caught a bunch of smaller ones. Then....Bly (now named Musky queen), hooked into another nice one! This one didn't jump like crazy like her others...but stayed deep right up until the end...this one measured in at 35" The sun started to peak out, so we had to head back to the launch to pick up Fishnsled's sunglasses. We took a detour at Big Cliff's place to say hi. While we were there, he treated us like royalty, giving us the use of this golf cart to boot over to the marina to pick up the sunglasses.....haha. We left Big Cliff's place with the sun blazing....and the bite also turned off. I lost a few fair sized bass that I had hooked, and Fishnsled brought one to the boat. A bunch of nice sized panfish were caught when we downsized our baits....but the bigger fish were nowhere to be found..... We got off the water around mid afternoon to make the trek back home. We had yet another GREAT day with Fishnsled. Lots of laughs, chatting, eating and of course fish. Can't wait to hook up again later in the fall....with Muskie being our main target!!! Thanks Will! You wanna go chuck some spoons for salmon tonight??? LOL

Moorings at Snug Harbour has a good launch. I believe the launch fee is 8 or 10 bucks, but the ramp is pretty good. From Toronto area.... 401 to 35/115 north Take the hwy 35 exit and go north towards Lindsay. Turn right on Hwy 7...go about a kilometer Turn left (north) on hwy 36 (towards Bobcaygeon) Turn left on Snug Harbour Rd (it'll veer off to the right as you approach the lake) Moorings at Snug Harbour boat launch is on the left side...about a kilometer from that right. There is also a boat launch at Lunge Haven which is basically at that veer....never launched there but I know there is one there. They are both marked on this map. Snug Harbour is "C" Lunge Haven is "F" Good luck

Funny you say that.... When it first took off, I also said ...."HOLY SH@T"! When I first saw it surface I said ........."HOLY SH@T"! When I went to hold it for the picture and felt the weight, I also said ..........."HOLY SH@T"! Thanks everyone...hopefully we'll get into more and more as the temps cool off a bit and more come in and cruise the shorelines and piers... -

Hmmm...the date on the article is Aug 1998...10 years ago. I did see an article from this summer saying someone caught a 34.1 lbs http://www.salmoncrazy.com/2008/09/04/deta...hotos-and-more/ At any rate.....they are both HUGE fish! -
Bly and I haven't been pounding the shores nearly as often in the past month as we did last year. We've tried for Salmon on piers and river mouths 3 times before tonight and only had one hook up...and none landed. Well, tonight we decided we needed to get out of the house and throw some cleos for an hour. We hit our fav pier near the creek mouth and began casting away. It was still hot and humid out...we were chatting, wondering if it was possible that with the HOT temps the last few days if they may have headed back out to the big lake. We decided we'd try a few more casts and call it a night, when suddenly I felt a strong hit!! I set the hook so hard that my drag went off a little....I wasn't going to lose this one because of a poor hookset...LOL. This fish didn't know it was hooked for the first 20 seconds or so because it started coming in nice and easy. Suddenly it SHOOTS off like a rocket and line is peeling off my line at an alarming rate!!! I manage to turn the fish around and after a few nice acrobatic jumps and a few more runs (each run getting shorter and shorter) I finally landed this chinny. This one breaks my old PB length of 39" by 1/2 an inch. It weighed in at 22lbs 2 ounces on the rapala digi scale. This beats our teams salmon by 3.5 inches...and once the bonus inches are in, it'll add 5" to our total. She was released to swim another day to head up stream to lay her eggs. It's good to get that first one of the season out of the way...hopefully they'll be hanging around for the next month in good numbers!

Awesome news Brian!!!! Congrats all around!!! I know you'll do a great job spoiling her....she a real cutie.

We've lost one of the nicest people on the board

This is terrible news!!! Gary just posted yesterday...hard to believe. I knew he has had some health problems, but it sounded like he was on the mend. He will be missed greatly....our condolences go out to his family, and all who knew him. Cliff and Carole. -
Don't go by my advice alone....if you need to rush, then I'd pass on it. Too many unknowns here. Is there a reason he doesn't actually show the motor? He says it works, but how do you know for sure? It could be a complete steal or It could be your worst nightmare You have to decide if the 2 grand is worth that risk.

Sounds too good to be true for $2,250. Without an actual inspection/test ride, it's hard to answer your question. I looked at trailers where the description was "Good", but upon seeing it, I wouldn't tow the trailer down the driveway empty, let alone with a boat on it on the highways. The boat had some damage....how will you know if it was fixed correctly? Bring someone with you who knows about boats to take a look....dont jump the gun...you may be sorry.

opinions on this boat....or what should I buy
ccmtcanada replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Here's what's gonna happen. You'll buy the boat....then your second child will come (Congrats by the way!!!), then you'll be too busy and broke to work on it.....LOL. At any rate, how big is the boat? Looks like a 12 footer....could be smaller....hard to tell from the angle the pic was taken. Is that about a 5 or 4 foot beam? I'm sure it's stable enough for you and Avery though...especially in small waters. The trick is to bring stuff for Avery to do....we bring bubbles, colouring books and lots of snacks when we take the little one out in the boat...hehe. Good luck...and congrats! -
Winter Tires....Need Some Help (NF)
ccmtcanada replied to Tarzan's Jane's topic in General Discussion
I've put Nordics on mine from Can Tire for the past 3 years and am very happy with them. The ride is still pretty smooth and the handling in snow and ice is great. -
Hey Will....got your chores done and you got to go fishing with you dad....can't beat a day like that! How the back feeling? You'll need it nice and strong this weekend....hehe. Fishing last weekend for us was tough too....went after muskie....had a follow on the second cast....then 3 more follows thru the day and no takers. Had to downsize as well to put a few fish in the boat.

Man oh man....the stuff of dreams!!! Amazing fish!
