Ordered off work? I think your recovery would speed up in fresh air....perhaps sitting in a boat Hope you BOTH are feeling better soon!

Gotta love reports like this. When you can get out with your dad like that, it's pretty special, and times like this it really doesn't matter who 'wins', because you both did!!! My dad passed away when I was in my mid 20s....during a time when I didn't fish. He was an avid angler in his day....wish I could share a boat with him just one more time.

TORONTO PIKE AND SMALLIE REPORT with ROCKSTAR
ccmtcanada replied to snag's topic in General Discussion
Great report Grant!! I gotta get me some of those lures from Clive....they look amazing! Good to see the Pike heading back in...you are da man when it comes to them. Anyhow....we gotta hit the shores again this fall....lemme know when is good!! -
The situation you are talking about is a temporary one. Total supply and demand runs the economy....in the short term, yes, you may start a price war, but it wont last. If a station or company goes out of business, then that's less competition in the marketplace, thus price tendencies will rise. I did learn something with my BA in Economics...sure I suppose what I learned was all wrong too....it's happened before.

When you have this thread open, click on "options" in the top right corner of the post. Click on "standard" and all should be ok. You are likely on "outline".

Every Internet message board shut down???

Can't see it happening....freedom of speech is too big an issue! Plus.... is there anything stopping someone from hosting a forum from a US location? (or any other country that hasn't banned them?) -
Read this before you try to boycott one gas retailer.... http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp Price is about supply and demand overall. Shifting demand to another brand doesn't change overall demand, so the price wont change. Sure, you may put a brand out of business, but that will lower brand competition and open the door for even higher prices.

When you apply the pressure behind the gill plate, it causes them to stop thrashing around completely...it's like it paralyzes them in a way. If you can't get your hand around them, then it's hold inside the gill plate...just be careful and don't put your fingers too close to their teeth....or this could happen.....LOL....this one was a painful reminder....I still have a scar and the pike did that to me back in Jan 07.

Hey there....for smaller pike, I grab it behing the gill plates. Applying pressure behind there when handling causes them to stop thrashing around..... For bigger pike, I slip my hand inside the gill plate and then support the body with my other hand. Lew posted this pic (it's a musky), a good way to safely hold those esox monsters....

Hey Tony, I've worked as a Deputy Returning Officer at elections before....it's amazing how many people do this. I know they are intentional because I'll see stuff like "None of these clowns" with a circle beside it and an X thru it....LOL. Sure, the ballot was spoiled, but that voter was still counted in the "voter turnout" calculation. All spoiled ballots are kept in case of recounts, so there is a record on file of that ballot.

AWESOME version of this classic tune. Jeff Healy did a pretty good job on one as well.... -
LOL...now that's funny.... She is reading this thread, and she sent me this for a response... "I suppose if you consider sitting by the lake on a lawnchair surfing on a blackberry "fishing"....then I guess I do!!!!!!" When I show her pictures of fish that bly and I catch, her stomach turns at the sight. Explaining the fish cleaning process to her may result in her running to the bathroom. She's ok in our books though cause she watches our youngest when we go to Lakair....

Thanks for that Roger! Great story....lots of smiles. BPS may get trashed a lot on here, but it's the outspoken few who seem to get the attention....not the masses who just love the place. Trust me...I know...been working in retail for many many years....LOL.

Great report....I'm outfished regularly by the women in my life. I just have to swallow my pride and pretend I'm still enjoying myself...LOL. Good luck!
-
Dan....that is one SWEEEEEEET boat! So, do you think you'll enter the Salmon Derby again next year?? LOL. Congrats once again....you truly deserve it.

When Bly and I were fishing Nipissing this past summer (and Ahmic Lake...another rocky tea stained lake about an hour and a half south of Nipissing), the only thing that worked well for us was the brass bladed spinners. Cant hurt to throw a few in your tackle box and try it out next time you are out. We caught pike, bass and even had a big muskie follow on one. As soon as we tried other things...things slowed right down. Good luck!

Great fish! Congrats...they are fun to land. With my spinning gear, I use 30 lb power pro, 250 yard capacity and a Medium Heavy 7 foot rod. I set the drag fairly tight. Would be interested to hear what lb test your line is....and if you happened to sneak a peek at what the other 'spinning' guys werer using. The problem I have is when they run at you in closed quarters....I cant reel fast enough...LOL. I only fish for them from piers now, so I cant really help with the trib aspect of it.

Tea stained lake....assuming you are north? Rocky bottom....perhaps Haliburton or Nipissing area? Fall turnover (from what I've read) usually begins at around 50F, so the water temps seem a little high still. Without knowing how big your lake is and how it's fed, it's hard to answer your question. Were you fishing near a large river that feeds the lake where lots of sediment could have come down if you were there a day or two after a large rainfall event? I've found for tea stained lakes, brass blades on spinners or lures seems to make the difference between a slow and a good day.
