One night after I said on the board that I just couldn't break the 40" mark with Salmon, Bly completely destroyed it!!! Anyhow...first the story. We got to the same spot as last night...we could hear and see salmon jumping close by. Once again, those glow in the dark cleos did the trick! We were feeling strikes, but no hookups....until Bly suddenly says "Ok...fish on!". This fish would NOT come up at first and she wasn't able to make any headway on it. She managed to turn it's head around a few times to keep it under control, but lose 10 feet in the process....this went on for a good 10 minutes. Suddenly, it goes on a straight run away from her....line is peeling from her reel like there's no tomorrow. I look down and see her gently thumb her spool and sure enough....the little added pressure did the trick, and she got it turned around and started to reel it back in. When I looked down and saw the fish I told her it was a HUGE one! It barely fit in our net....but we got it out of the water. Here it is...not the prettiest fish, but a BIG one! It measured in at 45" and weighed a whopping 34 pounds 1 ounce!!

LOL...thanks for the tip!! I've caught 2 that were 39 and one that was 39.5....it'll come one day I'm sure. I have the same problem with musky....my biggest is....yep.....39"

LOL...great report TJ. Sure...the smaller ones are harder to land...but in this case her bass would have eaten that pike if it saw it....haha.

WOW!!! Fantastic report and pics! That largie sure was a lunker! His smile says it all!

Great report you two! Some great looking smallies!!! That 4 (4.5) pounder is a real nice chunky fish there.

The bite this year has been slow for us to say the least.....the last 3 nights we had just one hit and none hooked. Tonight we hit a different area and on my third cast I had a fish on for about 2 seconds....but at least they were there! A few minutes later casting out the trusty glow in the dark cleos, I feel 2 hits on the retrieve...the third one I finally get a good hookset and the fight is on. This one was 39"....still cant break the 40" barrier!!! As I'm reviving the fish, Bly heads back to the spot and starts casting. The fish finally swam away after about 5 minutes and as I'm heading back, she yells..."stay there....bringing one in". It suddenly takes off. She looked at her spool and started to get nervous so she starts to thumb it to slow it down to try and turn it's head. Suddenly all the tension is gone. The fish took her cleo....but the leader and her line were just fine. The snap ring broke on it. Bly finally gets one that is a little easier to control and she lands this 32" beauty....nice red colour on the belly.

It's been a slow year for me, but I only fish for salmon at night. Here's a report that shows a night time salmon...using a glow in the dark cleo. I use the same strategy for casting as Paulus.... http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...mp;#entry248447

I read it today as well...noticed in the comments section that there is another Whispering Pines on Rice Lake that is getting some nasty phone calls and emails.

This is what the regulations say.... 1) Residents of Ontario and Canada under 18, or 65 yrs of age or older, and in possession of their birth certificate 2) Disabled Ontario and Canadian residents, eligible for and in possession of either: - A Canadian Institute for the Blind Card; or - an Ontario Ministry of Transportation Accessible Parking Permit 3) Ontario and Canadian residents in possession of their birth certificate and accompanied by and requiring the direct assistance of another person to fish and to follow applicable fishing laws due to a condition of mental impairment or a development disability , a learning disability or dysfunction or a mental disorder. Those who qualify to fish without a license must follow the same catch and possession limits as a Sport Fishing License If you are not sure, then either call an MNR office to ask and to get something back in writing, or just pony up for a $10 one day fishing license. Good luck.

Wow...some fresh looking salmon there!! Congrats to your bud there...some nice ones for sure. You'll get em next time!

Yep...Biteme schooled me in the art of Pier Salmon catching.

LOL...thanks Don...you've already let the secret out though.... The bite has been slower for me as well....keep at it though...still lots of time! When I was fighting it and saw the light colours (almost chrome in the water), I was hoping I caught an early steelhead. I was very surprised at the colour. It was a lot nicer then the one I caught in 50 feet of water out in Lake on last weekend!

Well, Bly and I have been out 3 times to local piers in the past week without having any luck at all. In fact, it seemed no one was having luck while we were out there. Anyhow, we went out again tonight and began rinsing off our cleos and it seemed that it was going to be one of those nights yet again, but we know that eventually the skunk will be shaken off. Tonight was the night. After throwing spoons for about an hour, on one retrieve I feel what may be the bottom or maybe a weed. We are fishing in about 25 feet of water so you just never know if you are touching bottom or not. Anyhow, I kept on retrieving and about 3 seconds later I feel a distinct hit! I set the hook and........nothing. Damn it!! That could be my only hit of the night. I keep the retrieve going and about 20 seconds later, it slammed my lure. I could tell right away it was a smaller one, but it sure felt good to hook into it. Here it is....a smaller 32" one, that had just started to turn colour....so it was mostly shiny.

With that much to invest, why not talk to an investment advisor? You'll get varying opinions here on a fishing board. It'll depend on your risk aversion, how accessible do you want your cash at any given point in time, what your overall investment goals, how much work do you want to do with your investment, are you planning on investing long term for retirement or short term for a large purchase etc....
