With Bly away at her girl's weekend away, I asked my little on what she wanted to do today. She said go see Big Cliff and Sue and fish! Well, I knew Big Cliff wasn't in town (hopefully see a report from him!!), but I said we could take the boat out to Sturgeon Lake and maybe see Sue if she was at home. We got to the boat launch at 10ish. This was the first time I launched the boat by myself, so I was glad to see the launch was empty when we got there. As it turned out, the dock hand there helped me launch...so that was great! Anyhow, we got out on the water and had a great time! No whining, no crying, no complaining at all. My daughter was great too!!! LOL. She started catching fish right away...and I...well...didn't do as well. I don't care about numbers....I go for quality...well...she not only had the most fish, she also had the biggest. Here's a few pics... Around 2 in the afternoon, my little one wanted to see if Sue was at home, so we headed to their dock. We hadn't even tied up yet, when Sue and Andy came out to greet us! It had been too long since we were last there to visit, so we were glad she was home. We went in and chatted for a bit before we went to load the boat back on the trailer. Getting the boat out of the water was a bit more difficult alone, but wasn't that bad. After we had everything done, my little one asked me if we could shore fish the marina for a bit, so after getting permission, she put on a clinic. The carp were in thick spawning, but she managed to aim for weeds and pulled out panfish after panfish. It was getting late, but she didn't want to leave, so I had to bribe her with a Blockbuster movie in order for us get back in the car. We spent the whole day together...the best part was when she hugged me out in the boat and said "This is the first time just you and me fished in the boat Daddy...thanks."

why are downrigger canonballs so expensive?

Don't know about the rigger stuff, but here's a much better site for wind conditions. http://www.sailflow.com/windandwhere.iws?r...mp;timeOffset=0 The wind is measured in knots...so to calculate into kph, multiply knots by 1.852. 10 knots = 18.52 km/h. The link you pasted does give wave heights...in meters. -
Big Cliff is a class act all the way!!!!

Well...the weekend I was looking forward to finally arrived! It was the annual Spring Weekend at Bernie's trip. Gerritt and Headhunter left early Friday morning, and Fishnsled and I left around noon. After an uneventful and quick drive to Powassan, we met up with Bernie, Gerritt and Headhunter at the marina. It was close to 20C, sunny with light winds...the perfect spring day! Here's the sight that greeted us as we approached Bernie's cottage... It was killing us that we couldn't fish yet!! We had to wait until the next day, so I took some pictures of the island that the cottage is on. It's an amazing place to be...I'd love to wake up every day and see these views... The first night, Gerritt treated us to one of his great squirrel recipes. Apparently it's been in the family for generations...he's a little worried about the abuse he may take because of the vertical hold...be nice everyone! He feels bad enough about it already. That night there was a great Lake Nipissing sunset, and I had to snap a few pictures. This one is one of my favourites. We knew a massive low pressure, cold front and high winds were on the way overnight...but we were here to fish. We wasted the night away playing cards and having lots of laughs. We woke up Saturday morning to find it already overcast and raining. The winds weren't bad yet, but we knew it was coming. It poured all morning long and finally cleared a bit by mid afternoon. Despite the weather, we managed to find a few fish! Fishnsled and I didn't have much luck with the walleye, but Bernie's boat did well in the conditions! Fishnsled and I weren't having much luck with the walleye, and once the winds got bad, we decided to hit some protected shorelines to cast for some pike. We finally got into some good fish here...including my now new personal best pike! Husky jerks worked extremely well for us. Here's a few pictures of my PB...measured in at 35"!!! Sunday was still incredibly windy out...Fishnsled and I tried out luck during the day but the cold front had entrenched itself and the fishing was tough. That evening, the winds finally died down and we got out after dinner...just a few fish were caught...but it was nice to be out there in those calmer conditions! Headhunter couldn't believe we didn't bring this beauty home for the dinner table!! Maybe next time...if I knew you loved these fish that much I would have kept it. Finally...my first and only walleye of the trip. Fishnsled the life of the night time partying as you can see here.... Then this morning...we woke up to see the best conditions of the entire weekend...figures!!! We got up at the crack of 8am, and headed out by 830. Finding the fish was pretty easy...getting them to bite was another story altogether! Just a few fish caught...and a beauty walleye from Bernie. We were all back at the cottage by 1pm...and we chilled out in the great weather...none of us wanted to leave!! As we contemplated calling in sick to work, we realized that we had to do the inevitable, and we packed all the gear up and headed home. Here's a shot of all the guys just before we got to work. I had a great weekend!! Thanks so much Bernie for your hospitality...it's always a pleasure spending time with you. And Gerritt...thanks for organizing it all. Headhunter and Will...always a pleasure to get together! I don't remember laughing that much in a very long time...a memorable trip for sure.

Love the Solopaddler pose!!! Great fish! I've caught a carp and chinook in our canoe before...not as small as a kayak, but had both of them tow me around!!

Roy...I'll take your next model...the one with an 18 foot, deep and wide fishing boat and trailer. If it's easier for you, it can be a little bigger than the one in the video. Maybe the size of a shoe box. Wayne....great work there! Who needs MacGuyver when we have you on this board! -
Glad to see you got out there! You always have great pictures! I gotta try that day light fishing some time....haha. We'll have a few more pics to share soon...just haven't posted them quite yet.

The may not be pretty, but they sure put up a hell of a good fight! If you use a hair rig, you don't even need to set the hook...LOL. I have all the gear to set you up if you are in the area...it's how we got Fishnsled into carp fishing....haha -

We can send you our secret recipe for mixed bait if you like! The bite doesn't turn on until the sun has gone down. About 30 minutes after sunset, the go on the feed it seems. -

Yep...they are always bigger, but you get used to it...LOL. Really?? Average?? That's actually the smallest carp I've ever caught. I'm sure it wont be long DSN! Two weeks ago there was nothing...now the waters we fish are teaming with them. -
Always enjoy your reports!! Can always count on some great photographs of your catches! Great way to end your season!
