  1. WOW! I can't believe the response I've received in my personal inbox. Heartwarming indeed. I've been in touch with the moderators already so that everything is transparent and above board. Hopefully we will be able to set up something tomorrow and then I'll be at liberty to disclose tthe affected party, even if he gets annoyed at me LOL! In the meantime, I'll be passing the hat around the family. Good Karma, hats off to you all. Peter
  2. Hi Folks, Just wanted your opinion on raising money to help out a fellow member who recently lost a young loved one. His fishing boat has to be sold to make up a $7,000.00 shortfall in funeral costs. He refuses my personal help. Losing his boat breaks my heart. He'll kill me if I mention his name but I obviously will if I can get this going. Just wondering if something like this has ever been done here before or not? For example, I would be willing to pledge $2,000.00 and maybe some or all of the rest could be made up here? Only 50 members at $100 a pop or 100 members at $50 would do it. I don't believe in big ticket charities but I believe in something important like this. Perhaps a trusted independant party on this board (Moderator?, Big Cliff?) would be willing to collect cheques and then pass them on? Thoughts? Peter
  3. Don't know if this helps but here's a Minn Kota repair manual I came across a while back. I uploaded it to my Sendspace account since it's about 8mb in size. Click on this link: Minn Kota Repair Manual When you open the page, scroll to the bottom and click on the blue box that says "Click here to download from Sendspace", the rest is advertising. Cheers, Peter
  4. Had a friend with the same motor, identical symptoms. Rebuilt and failed 30 minutes after startup. Apparently there was a flaw in the castings and water jackets were restricted or plugged somewhere around the number one (top) cylinder. Had to scrap it.
  5. I had a friend with that problem last year and we figured out it was the primer bulb itself. There's a one way check valve inside to prevent backflow to the tank and if that's failed, the engine may not be able to draw enough suction especially at higher RPM. The bulb itself may appear to be full but fuel back flow is difficult to detect. Just a thought? Peter
  6. Here's another cool link: Lancaster Flight I work wih a few guys that fly the Lancaster, the PBY Catalina (Canso in Canada) and the P-51 Mustang, lucky saps!
  7. Mine is the first two letters of all our names and I came up with that to name my boat: Peter Rossana Diana Michael.
  8. We just spent the last five years at Nestle In between Lindsay and Bobcaygeon and have now moved to Muskoka mianly because we prefer the lakes and fishing there. We loved this park though, it's well run and kept very clean. They have an outdoor pool and docks for boats. One drawback is that it's on Emily Creek off of Sturgeon so you have to navigate under a low bridge (Hwy 36) through a marked channel to get to the main lake. Hope this helps: Nestle In Resort
  9. Lew, ya but on the lake I need a pike eye view! We caught a nice 35" 10 pounder today! Thanks Billy Bob, I'll try that.
  10. Thanks guys, I'll try that upgrade. As far as the heading up mode goes, before I rebooted I had it and now can't get that option available. I like to see what's ahead of me rather than a birds eye view.
  11. Hey Folks, I'm having two issues with my Lowrance 520 C. First, the sonar is having trouble detecting depth. It will blink and show around 2' and eventually sense the correct depth but it's not consistent. Do you think the transducer is hooped? Also, after trying a master reset, I can't get the GPS back into heading up mode. In the menu under map orientation, that mode is not selectable and I can't figure out how to get that selection available. I'm up fishing near Parry Sound now so any advise would be greatly appreciated!
  12. Just a thought on what it costs to carry extra weight. Quite often we'll take an extra 45 minutes worth of fuel on a long flight which equates to about 4000kg. By the time we reach our destination, we will have burned more than half of that just to carry it. That means you'll only have about 20 minutes left of the original 45 burned into thin air. It still boggles my feable mind.
  13. Hi Perodimi,

Nice to meet you and thanks for adding me as a friend, I look forward to sharing fishing topics with you.

    Colin.

  14. I have the exact same motor on my Legend Sportfish 188. When I first got it, I found the hole shot quite poor with any kind of a load on with full trim down. I was advised by the BPS Merc expert that a stainless prop would solve all my problems so I changed the stock 17"P 3 blade prop to a Mercury Trophy stainless 4 blade 17"P. He said that the conventional props have a high flex under load whereas the stainless has little to none. He also said that he would've liked to get me a 16"P but they didn't make those. That didn't do a heck of a lot to be honest. I still get roughly the same numbers as you do on your Lund with slightly higher rpms. What I did do was install a Stingray wing on the lower unit and the difference was phenomenal. The boat comes out the water straight and true with no nose pitch up and is on plane way faster. Knowing a little about aerodynamics, hydrodynamics in this case, the Stingray is actually shaped like an airfoil and actually lifts the rear of the boat upward instead of mushing into the water. The hardest part was drilling the holes into the fin on the motor's lower unit but well worth the anxiety. Beware that because of it's rigidity, a stainless prop has less flex and as a result can do more damage if you hit something. A regular prop blade will break off and chip but this one could damage your drive shaft if you're not careful so only use it in known areas. Hope this helps, Peter
  15. Wayne I don't know if you can make this out since I took it top of climb (FL 320 or so?) enroute to the Orient. This is when we're northbound right over the eastern shore of Georgian Bay paralleling the 400, looking out my right window toward the east. You can see Parry Sound Airport and Horseshoe lake (far left side of the picture) immediately north (or left) of that:
