Very sad to hear this news. I've had the opportunity to talk to Jack a few times in the past few years and he was always very kind...very classy. My deepest condolences... He will be missed greatly here on OFC and by all that knew him.

I got a message from Fishnsled a while ago about the possibility of some ice fishing on Lake Simcoe over the holidays...and as luck had it, schedules and the weather aligned and cooperated! Today, Fishnsled, Headhunter, HH's friend and I ventured out to Cooks Bay in search of some perch. We headed out on foot at sunrise, and walked out a little bit. HH was eager to try out his new auger and he fired it up and it cut through the ice like butter! AFter a few minutes, we were fishing...and HH starts catching almost immediately. The action was non-stop it seemed all morning...and the final tally was over 450 fish! Mostly dinks, but got a few for the frying pan. No matter what HH tells you, we all caught about the same number of fish It was a perfect day...we packed up at 1pm and hit the road. Not bad for a few hours out on the ice. The winds were light, the temperature was mild...couldn't have asked for a better day! Here are some pics... HH with a monster... Fishnsled... HH's Buddy... My fish was bigger than Fishnsled!!! This was my haul for the day... And a little while later, they looked like this...the kids kept picking at the plate before it was time to eat... Thank you gentlemen...hope to hit the ice with you guys again soon!

You can find foot warmers...same as the hand ones, but not as bulky and designed for your feet. You can also find even smaller ones that keep your toes warm. They don't take up the same room inside your boot and for me they work great! You could lose a layer of socks if you are putting more than two pairs on and replace with these. Good luck!

Does any body remember watching this cartoon?
ccmtcanada replied to Muskieman's topic in General Discussion
Yep...I used to watch the Great Space Coaster! Loved the show and those animated shorts... Memories from childhood...thanks for posting! -
Nice work! Always love those "last minute" fish! Warms you up when you start catching on these cold days!
-
That's all I can say!!!!

Love the pictures! No fish this time, but great quality time with your son for sure! I agree...foot warmers are always a good thing. I just deal with the ice on the rod tip...pain in the butt but I may just try some of that paste someone drifter posted about. WHen he hooks his first in the rivers, he'll be hooked forever...took me 6 outings before I even got a hit...a few more before I landed one. Thanks for sharing!

It was cold out today! I went out just for an hour and a half...had to get snow tires on the car! I didn't catch a thing...except maybe a cold!
-

Hey...it was only -28 that day we went...LOL. Will be in touch for sure Scott!

Thanks Scott! Hope we get a chance to drift a few over the next months! You mean the one 30 feet from your doorstep?! You are so lucky to have that Chris! Good luck!!! Hope to see a report with your son holding a trout LOL...I can show you around some of the local creeks...do you have waders??? She was...I've been doing fine using the salmon roe I have frozen in the freezer, so I let her swim to see another day! Not sure what's going on with you and skeeter....but I will let you know when I'm headed out again...maybe Sunday morning if it's not too cold out there LOL

After all the rains early this week, I knew I had to make some time to fish a local creek or two. Water is still up about 8" more than normal, and running fast. It was stained a bit more than I hoped, but there was about 10" of visibility. It was chilly out....about -5C when I hit creekside. When the sun began to come up over the trees, the fish started biting! As expected, there were lots of people out, and all my favourite spots were taken, so I concentrated on lead in and tail outs that are normally too shallow for me to fish, but had a little depth because of the water levels. I caught a few smaller steelhead early on....about this size... I kept close to my favourite spot...and when it finally vacated, I headed over to it. First cast...the wind took it and I had a tangle that was too much to even think about trying to deal with, so I cut the line and had to rig all over again. The waters looked great here....and as my fingers began to get numb, I was finally able to drift again. It didn't take long....my float went down hard...set the hook and I see the boil...and white belly of a nice steelie! About 15 minutes later it goes down again, this time the fish is hooked nicely! I felt the weight and it was a nice sized fish! I thought it strange that it wasn't fighting all that hard, until I saw it as it got close. I got a nice female brown! A few quick pics and back into the creek she went! Not bad for a few hours out on a chilly Saturday morning....I think I'll be out again tomorrow morning!!!

Positive thinking from here Geoff! Hoping all works out for the best.

When I started driving back in 1987, I remember complaining when gas got expensive!!! When it broke through the 39 cent mark to 40 it just about bankrupted me!!!
