  1. I like new rapala cranks and the kvd 2.5 cranks. Both lures cast great and catch fish from bass pike and even muskie on lsc. Ive broken a couple hooks off the rapala cranks on big smallies though.
  2. Here is my lake st clair rendition from bass opener with the fly rod. Some great fish, but style not as good as moens! dirtbike thing is sweet too.
  3. those leaders are perfect. thanks for the ideas.
  4. I didnt have any luck either. I resorted to targeting the smallies n had a good time on saturday for the bass opener
  5. while out tossing big streamers for bass on my fly rod I watched a 30" pike take the fly without even noticing the 60lb fluoro leader, perhaps thats because he sliced it in half like it was butter i used to use steel but it sucks to cast. not sure what to do now.
  6. Thanks for the heads up, great read. I personally favour the current generation revo over many other reels that ive purchased. Many of my friends now use them after trying mine out. The extra ounce of weight the current revo models possess (compared to 200e) was never an issue for me and is probably what makes the reel feel "solid" compared to other lightweight reels. Hopefully the revo line only gets better. If not, ill gladly scoop up the discontinued models at discounted prices
  7. thats too cool! cant believe Im the lucky one, great contest!
  8. I take that way as well unless traffic is real bad on 401 then I hop on 407 and skip the 115. I prefer the 401 to the 115 though if traffic cooperates.
  9. while doing some volunteer the ministry I saw a muskie released from a trap net swim like this for a while, possibly related to stress. Ive also had a hooked pike swim around like this, which contributes to the food jammed in the throat theory.
  10. cograts on the pike it sure is fun to catch pike with fly rod. it looks like awesome scenery up there!
  11. i have a class 10 and class 6. I do not notice the difference when filming in 960. The class 10 is always good for piece of mind, as not all cards are rated equal I believe.
  12. I got two muskies on opening weekend and unfortunately this was the bigger of the pair. It was my first muskie on the fly rod with a mess of a fly i tied from bucktail in the bench vise. need those baits to get a real muskie out on LSC though!
  13. hardcore. some real great ideas.
  14. As others mentioned, bunny strips work great. Ive also had success with big bucktail flies but they arent the most durable. Heavy fluoro or steel is mandatory. I start off with fast strips cause an active pike will usually hit a fly in a hurry. I slow down after a couple casts if no fish strike. Fly fishing for esox is one of the most exciting types of fishing ive done and Im sure it will continue to gain popularity. Good luck with the gators.
  15. little rainbow trout it looks like. treat em with care so they can go larger
  16. glad to hear you like it! I really enjoy it as well. I had a pike get airborne yesterday while charging after my fly. its pretty intense. cant wait to see some pike that you nail.
  17. Yeah defintey mike. perhaps this summer or fall we can get out around the kawarthas for bass n muskies
  18. If I remember correctly I believe there is a fence
  19. sounds like an unreal experience, sweet fish mike.
  20. Il need a bigger fly rod for muskie flies! There's a good number of pike in LSC but with the amazing smallmouth and muskie fishing, it is often overlooked. Time of the year is also very important I have found as the bigger gators dont have much free room between the warm shallows and the muskie infested basin.
  21. some reaaal nice pike man, sweet video too
  22. I targetted the pike by using smaller bucktails then I normally would for Muskie. This tactic worked well as we slammed the pike with only 2 lazy follows from Muskie that were probably still recovering from the spawn and fortunately did not commit to our smaller offerings. Thanks for the fly tips though guys!
  23. I fished Lake St Clair for pike on May 2-4 weekend, mostly with bucktails on steady retrieve. Fish were in 8 to 11 ft of water. We caught over 20 pike casting mepps to weedbeds. All fish in the video were over 30" with some fish up to 36". Here's the video a friend and I made of the action with our go pros. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiED3N0EYdo I am also starting to fly fish and have been trying to catch pike on the fly. A task that is easier said then done! Here's a quick video of the first pike I caught on my own fly, which I tied in the bench vise with braided fishing line! Just a little guy, but rewarding to fool a fish with your own creation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfLfri5JQIk As a leader and tippet, Ive been using 2.5ft of 20lb tied to 1.5 ft of 15lb finished with a steel leader. Any suggestions on targeting pike on the fly? Setups, flies, retrieves, locations? Also any feedback on how to improve my videos would be greatly appreciated!
  24. nice gators, sweet to battle one on the fly i bet
