  14. Hey jon. You have probably heard of this, but some people believe there are 2 strains of muskie. The lacustrine strain, such as kawarthas fish, that do not exist with pike and this strain spawns once. There's also the great lakes strain of muskie that spawn twice I believe, and are known as the riverine strain. Pretty cool adaptations!
  15. Well done! that fish must of been awesome on the figure 8
  16. I've caught fat largemouth with a similar small mouth, but the lateral band was much more prominant. It could be a hybrid, a characteristic of hybrid species is to have a thicker body then either parent (as in tiger muskie). This fish appears to be pretty thick. I'll say hybrid just for fun.
  17. headhunter thats one hilarious quote haha
  18. Frame of reference is key in this discussion. If you catch fish that are so big that looking at others prized accomplishments is a "waste of time" then you probably dont need this website for anything other than bragging.. I've learned a lot on this site, regardless of how big the catch in the thread was or the words used to describe it.
  19. Here's my pb bass I caught early this fall, hoping to top my pb muskie at 44" with a 50" though!
  20. thats awesome!
  21. i picked up a curado 300 on sale for 200 + taxes and I find it works well for most baits. My first muskie reel was an abu 6500 and I still use it for trolling, it is just a real pain to hold on too all day casting. Fishing bulldagws two days in a row with the 6500 made me feel like carpal tunnel was in the near future - that is for sure. As most recommend I would go used on a quality reel if you can find one. However, if you go the 6500 route it can always go on a trolling rod once you upgrade..
  22. The water is dirtier than usual, however, if you get out a couple miles (~3 miles) in some deeper water it clears right up. I've had good success on lsc lately in around 10 fow with weeds up to 5 fow or so on crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Fish are scattered on this pattern but average size of both smallies and largies has been good. Here's a 20" smallie I picked up this past saturday. I've been consistently getting a fish or two like this most trips this season out of the bay covering water - power fishing, with plenty of other good fish. Get out there and good luck! Look for the 'ol red lund.
  23. lindsay ct has them if you're ever in kawartha lakes. end of the isle muskie isle.
