  1. Ive thought about just swapping lines as I need them but then I figured I might be shortening the fly line a lil too much cutting the nail knot off repeatedly. also interested in peoples opinions here as Im speculating a 8 wt reel for spring pike.
  2. locnar, bowfin and white bass along with all the species you want excluding the troot can both be targetted successfully in lake st clair. especially drum, carp and muskie. bit far from you but it would be worth the trip.
  3. I like the team format but I can never remember the OFC sign and when I do, i never catch anything Id like to sign up again this year even though i was unable to make a contribution last year
  4. great late fall smallies, thanks for sharing. on the coffee mix up, Im glad its not just me. its astounding how often double doubles come without sugar
  5. never get greedy with turning on the cam, especially when you already got one rollin man! only a matter of time till that 50 pounder decides to chomp a dawg. lets hope its yours, mine or mikes! haha
  6. nice catch bro, like the net mount.
  7. one knot i havent seen mentioned that is very handy when tying different diameter lines is the slim beauty. its a salwater knot and I find it is not too hard to tie and works great for tying on heavy flouro leaders. give it a try, better than uni to uni imo.
  8. Spoon & SRT8, it would not be the first time jones and I have been mistakin for each other. its my lund with the 35. Jones certainly is proof you dont need a boat or vehicle to catch big fish, just some serious determination haha should be coming out for a couple more big girls before I leave LSC for kawarthas muskie fishing
  9. that is awesome! mysterious beasts they are
  10. great video mike!
  11. NWO it certainly is a weird experience being shushed in your own boat!! in all fairness i was pretty excited on my first 50" too, a little school girl dance was almost necessary
  12. i couldnt help but laugh, jones didnt think it was quite so funny. that 51.5 it was a helluva fish. never been so nervous tryin to put one in the net. 2 biggest ive seen on lsc this year. edit: the gopro came as a present to both of us, but i know what youre saying. we're trying to get a better net. jones had one for a day till my first 50" bit thru it. apparently it wasnt as good as thought.
  13. thank you once again for you and your friends generosity mike! I cant wait to try out the new net up in the kawarthas thanks again for all the comments fellas, it was the luckiest moment of my life id say!
  14. Thanks for the comments guys. The lake is definitely on fire, my friend yanked out a 55" yesterday from a completely different spot.
  15. I got out on Lake St Clair this wednesday for some muskie casting. My fishing buddy got his first 50" fish this past weekend and I was eager to join the club! The forecasted winds for mid day never materialized which made conditions less then favorable for muskie fishing. The lake was like glass, making drift fishing not feasible. To top it off, my usual spot was gin clear so off I went in search of a new muskie hangout. After scooting around to a couple weedbeds without spotting much, I decided to try a little deeper water. This paid off with a skinny 42" that fell to a figure 8. We continued to explore the new area which resulted in a couple follows from fish from 40" to 50" however they were staying low with no intention of eating. The location was solved but a piece of the puzzle was missing. As we continued casting, I clipped on a magnum dawg that I usually reserve for more turbid water. The winds began to shift, then increased, creating a perfect drift opportunity. This is when the best moment of my angling career occurred. I saw a couple minnows flip which brought my attention to two suckers swimming off the bow of the boat. As I examined more closely, there was a massive muskie swimming right in pursuit! I quickly proceeded to drop the bulldawg a couple meters past the muskie, and sure enough it followed to the boat! A wide circle on the first part of my figure 8 was all it took. Sure glad the Go Pro was rolling! After reviving the fish for a few minutes it swam off well and I took a very short moment to collect myself after catching my first 50" muskie! The next cast, my bulldawg hit the water and within a few cranks I was absolutely ruined by yet another massive muskie! It engulfed my bulldawg which made unhooking it a little tricky but it also took off after a couple minutes of revival. Both fish were measured in the water and this second one stretched the tape to 51" After this crazy lucky occurrence we took a few more casts then decided to end the day on a good note as I was bleeding fairly good from unhooking the second fish, well worth it!!!!! Here is some video footage of this unreal event, good for a laugh as I go absolutely nutty during the experience. Thanks for reading, hope you all enjoy! Comments always appreciated.
  16. nice job on the fish and vids mike! I can come over and give ya a few pointers on imovie sometime!
  17. I currently have 50lb on and its not a good idea at all. Heres why. After missing a beaut fish on a figure 8, my 65lb that was previously on the 300e, did a high speed stop and I lost my favorite bulldawg. Talk about heartbreaking. I obviously had to continue fishing that day and the shop at shore only had 50lb so i spooled it up. My buddy ended up boating a real nice one and i got a couple snots after we went back out so it was worth it. I'm going back to 80lb asap!
  18. thanks for the comments. it was a good learning experience getting the outboard up and running. jones, hopin we get that 50 before the end of the summer!
  19. I cant remember if i introduced myself when i joined. My names Ron and I love to fish year round. Being in college the past couple years opened the door to steelheading which turned out to be something I quite enjoy. Can't wait to hook one on the fly. Growing up around Lake St. Clair has embedded a love for muskie, smallmouth and even pike into my soul
  20. Yeah I was pretty worried when the hooks hit the net first! Thanks linking the vid misfish, couldn't figure out how to do it on my iphone
  21. Following a morning storm this past Sunday, a friend and I went out to Lake St Clair to cast for muskie. Knowing very well that conditions weren't the best, post front with a good gust on the lake, we went ahead anyway to make the most of the weekend. Our quest for monster skis far outweighed the less then stellar conditions. Once out on the main lake, the winds were high and I questioned continuing the journey. The waves were manageable, so on we went out towards the deeper drink which in this oversized puddle can mean quite the run. During the run we established long drifts were necessary with the present conditions. Upon arrival of the destination, a nice weedbed in 11 ft, I figured the mixed up water conditions called for a big, bright and loud lure. Perfect time for the mag dawg. As we began casting, the speed of our drift seemed to approach trolling speed, as we quickly were into less than 8 ft of water. A few cranks into a bomb cast, and my dawg was abruptely t-boned by what felt to be a Mac truck. Heres a clip of the whole event. www.YouTube.com/Theontarioangler After about 3 minutes of reviving in the harsh waves she was off with a thrash of the tail and dove down soon after. We measured the fish in the water with a paddle, the length was 48". This was the only fish of the day as I missed a follow from a smaller fish soon after. I've had this boat out of comission for the majority of the summer due to outboard trouble. The new to me Johnson really paid off cause there's no way I could of fished those winds in my dads small tinner. Very rewarding to fix up the old motor and put it to use! Thanks for reading and watching, any and all comments appreciated!
  22. Nice fish! gotta love lake st clair
  23. X2 for slime on lsc! I speculated about the tourney, but as lunker mentioned, this time of the year rondeau can be a treacherous jungle.
  24. a mile or so out of the channel should get you in some decent water. 2 miles even better but watch the weather can get a lil nasty some days.
  25. pike fishing is good, some muskie are in the area. deeper water 8 ft+ for any decent pike usually and yes thats kinda deep for ol lsc. probably get good direction at the launch, might even see ya there if its on a weekend haha.
