  1. Having been involved with the Canadian Taxidermist Association in the past, I can assure you that you made a fine choice. I was going to recommend Chris as one of the ones to check out.
  2. Can we do that in Ontario?? Not sure we can.
  3. Go to the galleries of the various taxidermists that offer replicas and compare the paint jobs and the detailed finishing. You will find a wide range of quality. Some just have the knack and skill to bring them to life, others just can't duplicate the colours and patterns on the fish. You will find more in the States, but I think that Shawn and James of Advanced probably offer the best paint jobs. Expensive, but they last a lifetime. Check out New Wave Taxidermy in Florida, but I still think that Advanced do a better job.
  4. These threads always get me going :-( Is there anything any of us can do????? We're like cattle being lead to slaughter!
  5. That's quite the marketing article! AIM and Lund know the right guy to sell this idea. I like the idea of the fish being released where they are caught, because I can attest to the impact every year after a tournament on the lake where I live and knowing the fish are not being released back to the same area. I definitely see a difference in the fishing. There is no way they transport the fish through two lakes to drop in the third lake. It's too expensive and time consuming. That's selfish thinking though, as all those boats have every right to keep the fish (5-6) they catch anyways, right. Maybe they can come up with some kind of onboard weigh system if they use scrutineers (?) Definitely something to think about as the angling tournaments move forward.
  6. Your safety is definitly the first priority, wouldn't want to read about another accident on the water. Good on you guys for trying to save a fish of that age, but judging by the colour of the fish, it didn't stand a chance. Just a totally frustrating situation to be in, that's for sure!
  7. Those ribs look awesome!!!
  8. I doubt that Simcoe will ever be a put and take fishery for muskie. They will protect them, even if the restoration project is successful, which they should. I see a catch a release fishery or a 50" limit when all is said and done. I agree that the lake can produce huge muskie, and I'm sure that's why they are attempting to restore the muskie fishery.
  9. I have a buddy who smokes carp on ocassion and I would put them right up there with any other smoked fish. He pulls it out on our ice fishing trip and it's gone in minutes. Catfish are okay out of cooler water, but I haven't tried sheephead or sucker yet.
  10. Nobody gets into the electricity business to help out their potential customer. They want to take you for as much as possible, don't sign.
  11. Haven't been to this place in a long time, but Elephant Lake Lodge might be a possibility for you guys. Bass, Pike, Muskie, Walleye Sunnyhill Resort on Bark Lake, Bass, Pike, Walleye, Lake Trout, Whitefish. Any lakes in the Kawarthas will be a zoo!!!!!!!
  12. Some of you are getting confused by two different lakes. The map provided in one post is of Bark Lake near Barry's Bay, the other Bark Lake near Kinmount is more of a private lake that Bob Izumi is involved with. Bark Lake near Barry's Bay is much larger and holds more species of fish. BarK Lake near Kinmount is primarily SM bass to my knowledge.
  13. Full can of Orange Crush Fresh Water clam while trolling Perch carcass while ice jigging Smallie with a crankbait in its mouth, still in my tackle box, the crankbait that is. Rod and reel First time I ever caught a Sheephead years ago-had no idea what it was. My brothers head
  14. I didn't think a Pacu had any teeth. They are veggy eaters. Are you sure it wasn't a black pirahna?
  15. That's gross, just before lunch! Thanks
  16. You could also check out frog toggs, they make some good suits.
  17. My neighbour needs a lower unit for a 40hp 1989 Evinrude. Does anyone know where he can find a used one. The new parts are just too expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jimmer
  18. The best medicine for deer flies is to wear socks and shoes, even if it's hot. Then you don't have to worry about the bites. They do the same thing to me and I just don't go through it anymore. I'd rather have stinky feet. July and half of August are always the worst or until it starts getting cooler at night. That ankle looks painful!!!!!
  19. Why is the lake such a secret? Rice Lake on the east end has the greatest threat to get pike and Cameron Lake on the west is the next lake in line after Balsam (already known to have large tigers). If it's Cameron, it's all down stream from there for the pike, which is the worst scenario for the Kawarthas. If it's in any of the lakes between Rice and Cameron, it's too late.
  20. You might have to take the carb right off and do a thorough cleaning. Seafoam is good to a certain degree, but it has its limitation. Sounds like a lot of crap building up in the carb. I just went through the same thing on my 25 yamaha and seafoam helped after running a tank with seafoam though it. But who really knows, it could have been a bad tank of gas or water in the fuel also. All the suggestions are important to look into. Sucking air could cause the problem, but you should see some gas leaking somewhere if that was happening. You also said you replaced the hose with a new one, so you have eliminated one possible source of the problem. Also try to use fuel stabilizer in all your fuel if it is going to sit for awhile.
  21. Years of experience and many mounted during my taxidermy career. The markings do confirm it for me. However, everyone has been known to be wrong in their lives at some point! LOL
  22. It's a tiger for sure.
  23. No. So many other lures to choose from.
  24. I have a 3L Ford Ranger. I tow a 14' Smokercraft with a 25hp on it. I would NOT tow a bass boat for any great distance with this truck. No guts. However, I do love the truck.
  25. The Laker King, great report johnnyb. Take advantage of all the opportunities to get out with you dad, so you have no regrets later in life.
