I still think that some are not following the slots judging by the size of some of the fish I saw on stringers on opener. I think it's ignorance of the fishing regs. Everyone has to keep talking about it and the MNR has to post signs everywhere possible to educate those that aren't aware. Launch ramps, tackle shops, stores, trailer parks, cottage resorts, lakefront community boards, etc. I don't personally keep walleye out of Pigeon Lake, because I would love to see that fishery come back to what it was years ago. I live on the lake and have been disappointed to see the walleye decline over the last 10 years, so I will do my part. Panfish are way tastier anyways!

You might be able to rent a boat up the road at Paudash Lake. There are some monster bass in that lake, but a challenge to catch at times if you don't know the waters. Fish around weed and rock and you should do fine. Use tube jigs and senkos. There is a marina and a couple of resorts on the lake that you can check out for boat rentals.

Was able to get out last night for a quick fish after avoiding the lake on Sunday. A buddy and I caught 4 walleye drifting across weedflats, using twister tails. One under the slot, two in the slot and a nice chunky one over the slot (58cm). Caught some really nice perch also. Where do these things go for the rest of the year? It seems every spring we get into these jumbo perch for a couple of weeks then they disappear. I found that we had to fish the baits slow to get the walleye to bite. Sorry no pictures, too wet out to bring the camera.

Pflueger President, a little more, but what a reel. Might find one on sale somewhere if you look.

It should make for better fishing. Go get them!

I hear you, but there is only two screws on the side and you do have to take the drag off to get this one apart. I have a few shimanos and this is the only one like this. I have no idea why they designed this one like that. All the others have 3 screws and even a screw on the end of the drag for removal if required. I just talked to a buddy who repaired shimano reels and he says there is a special tool to remove the drag, but also said I shouldn't have to grease the thing. I guess I'll just keep using it until it unbearable. Thanks for replying though.

Has anyone taken one of these reels apart? I would like to clean and grease it for the season, but can't figure out how to get the rear drag off the thing, which will allow the body of the reel to come apart. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

Why don't you eat them? They are great once you learn how to clean them, especially in the cold water. There are many youtube videos to show you how.

You wear lip gloss/balm or you ask what way a screw turns or you get someone else to fillet your fish

One pound bluegill are worth taking a picture of for us! Those are monsters.

Great job. One of my favourite lures and one that makes me mad when they get chipped. I'll have to try this if I can find some of that envirotex.

Battle the boats on Pigeon Lake for the morning, then heading away from the water for the rest of the day. I find it quieter during the week following anyways.

So Garry2Rs, do you think the bite stopped because the muskie was around or was it because of the time of day? The panfish shut right down at about 8pm on the lake that I fish. They also shut down at various times throughout the day that I attribute to a muskie being in the area.

Yet I still had massive pick ups flying by me on the highway this morning. They must have been racing to the gas pumps to get the $1.30/litre gas before it went up. I can't imagine filling up one of those things. I shouldn't be saying this because I'm sure most of the OFC members drive large pick ups to tow their boats, so I don't mean to offend anyone, just don't know how anyone can afford to drive one.

Green Acres, Camp Astabula, Fees Landing, Pigeon Lake Resort are a few on Pigeon Lake (Kawarthas) that are worth checking out. Most have swimming, but probably not the greatest beaches. You have to go to Haliburton, Muskoka or Georgian Bay for better swimming. Rice Lake has many resorts around the lake. Other Lakes in the Kawarthas that you can check online are Buckhorn, Sturgeon, Stoney and Balsam.

Man am I lucky. My wonderful wife pushed me to make the move I always wanted to do, but was always worried about. We have now lived on a lake for 26 years, have some trees around us and still close enough to a couple of larger centers yet far enough away from other family members.lol Talk to her and start looking at places where you want to live, show her pictures and houses and it might grow on her. Approach it as positive as possible and avoid arguing if you can. Like others have said, you only live once, so make it good and enjoy it while you're here! Life's about tough choices sometimes.

Yes it is, I also sent you a PM that might help.

I would second Canal and Mitchell, these smaller lakes are fairly easy to fish. Dalrymle might also be open for pike if it's in FMZ 17. Balsam Lake is larger, but it also has some pike in it.

See if there is a stocking list for the lake. That will give you a better understanding of the fish populations. The trout will probably be deeper or suspended over deep water in July.

Crappie fishing on Sturgeon Lake has been less than steller.

I've been lucky this year so far and have not had to deal with that stuff. I usually just fire the motor up when someone tries stealing the spot I'm fishing and tear up the water a bit. I know it sounds childish, but I get my message across without saying a word. I understand that I don't own the lake, but it's nice to see some form of fishing etiquette on the water. I would never dream of doing that to someone. I feel for you Cliff! It drives me crazy. -
My favorite is made with Brodie XXX Self-Raising Pastry Flour. It has all the ingredients in it, so you just add the amount of water needed to make the batter just stick to the fish. The thinner the better. It's the closest to the local fish and chip store that I have found.

Would you really do that to some unsuspecting buyer? That would be devastating to me if I bought a boat, only to find out later that it was damaged and then had a shoddy repair done.

I'm on one of the other kawartha lakes and tried off the dock the other night and didn't have a bite. Went down last night after that 10 minute storm blew through and they were absolutley going crazy, oos bass included. They definitely change with the weather and from day to day until the temps stablize. It didn't matter what I threw at them either. Depth is 2-3'. Just gotta try every chance you get!!!!

That is a monster sunfish, that's for sure. It must have given you quite the battle.

The quickest way to tell the bluegill and pumpkinseed apart is that the pumpkinseed has the red mark on the edge of the gill, bluegills do not have this red mark.
