I understand it's a very sandy lake that has smallies and trout. Probably best to concentrate on the smallies during the summer. I have never heard of any amazing catches, but maybe it's one of those best kept secrets! Sometimes the smallies will be in deeper water on those lakes, look for them on the bottom of 25'.

Stick to the shorelines and weedbeds. I would go after bass for most of the day, but maybe walleye in the low light conditions. Jigs and twisters are one of the favourites for walleye in the kawarthas, try wacky rigs for bass, nice and simple, but deadly. Also topwater plugs if it's calm for bass. You will have your best walleye action around millfoil weeds. I think that you will find that the water is much clearer on Buckhorn, than on Rice, making the walleyes tougher to catch.

Thanks Bernie, that sounds like what it could be. Not that I'm looking forward to tearing the motor apart. Do you know if I will do any damage by running it like this?
-
How would you know if an exhaust port was plugged and what causes it?
-
Sorry to the moderators. screwed up meant (follow up) to a previous post.

I don't think the exhaust is plugged, it wouldn't run if that was the case would it? I guess I should add that a piston ring went on the motor within 3 months of buying it brand new. It was fixed under warranty, so I'm wondering if a gasket was damaged when they did the repair. That was a least five years ago.

Hey guys These are a couple of pictures showing where the black oil like substance is coming from. It looks like it is coming from one bolt. The picture of the engine also shows that it is clean inside the cowling. Hope you can help. Thanks, Jimmer

I'm going to take a picture. 2 stroke. Not leaking from any lines, thinking there is a seal gone somewhere that the engine is bolted on. I'll post the picture tomorrow. Thanks guys!

We need pictures of fish! Any good ones lately?
-
It's a short shaft on the proper transom. The leak is on the lower side of the casing that the cowling attches to.
-
Will try to get one in the next day or so. Thanks Roy

Just wondering if anyone can give me some insight into where this black oil like substance is coming from and if it is a problem. I have a 25hp Yamaha that is about 5 years old. I have to clean this stuff off the casing between the engine and the lower unit every couple of trips. It is coming from one of the bolts on the outside of the upper casing. It looks like some kind of exhaust residue and I have tried tightening the bolt, but it just isn't stopping. I don't want to overtighten that bolt and risk wrecking the threads. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jimmer

Fishing Near/ Between Barry's Bay and Petawawa?
jimmer replied to wask's topic in General Discussion
The fishing is good on every lake, just don't know about the catching part of it though.LOL I have heard good things about Round Lake, what about Bark Lake? Bark lake has some good size fish in it. -
Viamede Resort Area Stony Lake - Newbie seeking advice
jimmer replied to rover1.5dx's topic in General Discussion
Just got back from 2 full days of fishing Stoney for walleye. It is only the second time I have fished this lake, but I am not a walleye rookie by any means. Spent a lot of time in the main basin out from Viamede fishing everything from weedlines, drop-offs, shallow to deep, mornings, days, evenings, using jigs, crankbaits, spinners and even got desperate to try tipping with worms. Caught oos bass and plenty of perch, even some huge sunfish, but no walleye. The water is very clear, which probably makes it tough on the walleye, but that's why I tried deeper water with deep diving crankbaits. Maybe try the area to the west of Viamede in the back bays near the main channel, the water looks a little more stained in that area. Let me know if you figure them out. I probably won't go after Stoney Lake walleye anymore. Went out on the lake I live on last night and caught 2 in the first 15 minutes. -
I have had a Yamaha since the early 70's and I love it. Can't go wrong, but definitely try a couple different ones before buying. Everyone has different hands and likes a different feel to a guitar.

BillsTheBassman Sounds like you are doing everything right to me. (I work in formal mentoring programs). This young guy will remember you as being one of the most important people in his life. Bring lots of food on any new excursion in case the fish aren't biting (Belwood is a good choice with lots of potential)and I believe he will let you know when he is ready for wading. You are making a difference Ryan!!!!! Good on you, now if only more men would take the step forward to become mentors.

Yes there are walleye in the PTBO Little Lake but I think he was talking about the one in Barrie, because he mentioned Pike.
-
They'll just move onto another state and do the same thing. That's how dumb they are.

Hey Cliff The slump has started for me again after those two amazing days. All great athletes go through a slump, so hang in there, it should be over soon. Seriously, try the suggestion of fishing off the dock at night, I know another guy that does that and has success on Sturgeon.
-
There are walleye in there. I mounted some walleye from Little Lake and have seen them caught by some locals. Tough to find them though.

I'll go with a Banshee!

Interesting to see this post and hear about all the treaments you guys are using. I have suffered with a bad back (surgery) since I was 25 years old, bad hips for the past 4 years as well as knees and shoulders (I'm 52). I have tried many of those mentioned including celebrex and the natural ones. Some would show a little relief, but not enough to let me sleep through the night or enjoy regular activities. I see a chiropractor every three weeks. I'm not always one to listen to my doctor for my own reasons, but last year I visited him after weeks of relentless pain. I was taking celebrex at the time and it just wasn't cutting it. He mentioned taking tylenol arthritis daily might help. Well, low an behold, it is the best advice I could have received. I have better sleeps, no hip pain, better shoulders and no gut rot. Who would have thought that buying something off the shelf would provide a better relief than prescrition drugs.

GOOD FISHING PARTNER and BAD FISHING PARTNERS
jimmer replied to wankerjohn123's topic in General Discussion
It's is kind of funny how I will have more success with certain partners in the boat than others. Not that I don't enjoy my time with the bad luck guys, but it is wierd. Bad partners are no longer partners. And partners that brings phones and say they have to leave when their wife calls get to walk in if you know what I mean. -
Hey Beans I went out last night and said I wasn't going to fish for panfish, even left that rod back at the dock. I was determined to catch some walleye. I caught 3, but all were under the slot. They hit a beetle spin trolling in 5' - 6' of water. Didn't see another boat fishing. Those bluegill are one awesome fight for a little fish, expecially the ones that are over 7".

Here is a couple of pics of the fish we caught. Like I said, no monsters.
