That's what dogs are for but FWIW two of our three cats fetch things We love dogs and cats but our lifestyle doesn't lend itself towards a dog, both at work all day and don't have a secure garden to let a dog out in. Cats are great companions and don't take up the whole bed Must say I'm kind of disappointed by the hate for cats on here

You could use surveymonkey.com and direct people straight to your survey - you get a few freebies before you have to pay and that way people don't need to supply email addresses etc and you'll probably reach a wider audience.

I like cats - we have 3 and they're great companions and by having more than one they entertain each other. Roy makes a good point about kids (we don't have any), if you can't hack a friendly meowing cat, good luck if you ever have a screaming baby Oh, and de-clawing cats is brutal IMO

You can get Muskie on the fly too - you might need more than an eight weight though! http://www.thirdyearflyfisher.com/video scroll down to the player and hit play, it's ready to go.

Welcome That's a perfect steelhead setup (an egg fly and indicator rig doesn't need any finesse to cast it) - get out there and try it out

Not sure if that was directed at me? I saw this on another forum a while back - unfortunately I couldn't make it this time, if there's another one, I'd happily lend a hand for a few hours. "The new Halton Salmon and Trout Assoc will be hosting a cleanup of Bronte Creek, 0900 hrs Sat 23 Oct , centered out of Petro Canada Park. The town will provide work gloves and bags."

You missed it - it was on a few weeks ago

...and with 451 Views and 9 Replies there are probably quite a few folks keeping an eye on this who it would apply to

Yup - there area signs all over the place and in fairness when I was there everyone was fishing well away from the dam (me included!)

I wouldn't spray them with anything, just hang them up by the boots somewhere out of direct sunlight and they'll be fine You can get boot hangers from CT or BPS if you want to get fancy.

I saw that too - very disappointing, I only recently discovered this magazine and was thinking of putting a subscription on my Christmas list. I know what you mean about having the magazine itself, nice to look back through and there's something not right about tucking a laptop under your arm on the way to the bathroom

I didn't catch anything last time I fished there and didn't see anyone else get anything either

For a start, you've been to four different places in 5 trips, probably best to concentrate on one or two and learn them rather than constantly changing. If you fish fewer bodies of water more often you have a better chance of being there when they're running. Next bear in mind that unlike other species of trout, steelhead are migratory, they don't live in rivers, they're going upstream to spawn at which point they'll turn round and go back to the lake (not quite that simple but you get the idea). This means you need to look for spots they'll stop on the journey to rest before and after major exertion like going up rapids or faster stretches of water and they'll be out of the main current either behind something or to the side of the main flow (looking at bubbles on the surface will give you an idea of relative cuurent speed). I can't offer much technique help I'm afraid as I fly fish for them

Get a syringe and inject the belly with air - be very careful it's only the bait you stick with the syringe though!

As you know the history of it, just carry on the scheduled maintenance on it where the previous owner left off. Changing the oil, plugs and filters 'just cuz' is a waste of cash and won't affect the running unless there's a problem - by all means whip the plugs out and check them, it'll give you a good idea of how it's running but I'd be saving for the day something breaks and you get a big bill (it's 12 years old after all)

Can't offer any advice specific to Redington but unless you're 100% sure what size you are, I'd advise going somewhere you can try them on. I read all sorts of recommendations on here and elsewhere about mail order but ended up going to BPS (the lower end Redingtons seem to be at a similar price point to the White River ones I ended up buying) and trying lots of different pairs on, much easier and enjoyable than trekking back and forth from the post office. Your profile doesn't say where you are but there are two redington dealers in Misssisauga, whether they'll have what you want in your size is another matter. http://www.redington.com/dealer_locator.php?country=CA&state=ON&zip=&Submit.x=13&Submit.y=4

I thought that, no weed or cover either - think I'll stick with Bronte Harbour

Firstly, SRT8 no need to get your knickers in a knot, no-one's flaming anyone, it was a joke Pat, I was reading this http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47873 and then your thread popped up. As you don't say where you're going (understandably), your best bet would be to stop at a local tackle shop and ask a few question and pick up some bits and bobs, they'll probably be able to steer you in the right direction on tactics and spots on the lake itself. If there isn't a tackle shop nearby then I'd look for cover and fish anything you have that looks like a baitfish near it. You might want to think about some tough leader material to avoid bite-offs - I use Cortland Toothy Critter which is wire that can be tied like normal line although some folks swear by using thicker mono.

You're not fisher12's dad are you?

Chris has pretty much covered it but unless the Grand has more colour than last weekend when I fished it, when it's carrying a little bit of colour, I'd go for something with a bit of colour or flash but not really gaudy. The old adage of coloured water colourful fly and clear water, drab fly works for me and it goes by degrees, bit of colour to the water, have a bit of colour in your fly. I tied up a few of these last night (not a pic of my actual fly!) with a pink bead for the head and both with and without the flash in the body and I'll give them a go at the weekend as most rivers still have a tuinge of colour to them.

Good start with those nymphs, they'll do well in lots of situations. For this time of year with steelhead in mind..... Woolly Buggers in black, brown and purple Egg sucking leeches Egg flies in various colours (mega easy to tie!) Stoneflies Big (size 10) prince nymphs and pheasant tails Does this make me OFC fly fisher no3???

Nice fish and some nice looking water too - glad to see someone getting among them, I'm 0 for 2 so far How do you find the spey gear compared to a single-handed/overhead setup?

Striding Edge in the Lake District? Had a Tornado go past at the same level up there - v.cool More plane shenanigans... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvDDDKnNhuE I give up trying to make the viewer thingie work -
Funnily enough I was looking at the same thing this morning after I got an email from Amazon about these http://www.amazon.ca/Kodak-PlaySport-Waterproof-Pocket-Camcorder/dp/B0030MITDK/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1287168008&sr=1-2 no optical zoom, which shouldn't be an issue for pictures of fish and it looks like it's even more robust than the Fuji or Olympus so I could use it for photos and video while snowboarding. That said, last time this topic came up I think the Fuji was the one to go for between it and the Olympus.
