  1. ultimately, you are in charge of your boat and your fate...
  2. if i guy can't understand the universal signal for emergency and moves ahead what can you do??? by the way you indicated that YOU had an emergency and he just carried on....nice boating. good thing you weren't choking on a sausage and had your hands around your neck showing that universal symbol, he would have just walked on by...
  3. +1 for itunes. or share your files with friends over hard drives. high bit rates are key - the better your stereo system the more likely the flaws of mp3s will show thru. i have about 400gig hard to get thru it!
  4. go for it! its typical to be paid hourly or with a yearly bursary. there are still some genuine volunteer arrngements but most are more like a part time setup. in my area they have union affiliations, a collective bargaining agreement, the works. often high turnover allows for a lot of hiring. if firefighting is a noble profession at 70k a year, its certainly a noble profession at 1200 a year. just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. (not to collect window stickers and t-shirts) good luck whatever you decide.
  5. mu buddy had a 2001 V8 quad cab. i really liked the truck. he sold it to his brother in law @ 100K and it just fell to bits. brakes, transmission, ball joints, one thing after another. its long gone now. might not be typical, and its too bad i really liked the truck. i have a tacoma its about the only thing in the size range of the dakota quite frankly its a much better build...
  6. there are scattered pike in the bsyfront. cross your fingers!
  7. "maybe that is all their budget will allow" LAME if you can't afford a 20000$ item dont shop for it. its not OK to offer 1500$ becasue that is all the money you have. walk into a mercedes dealer and tell him you only have 15000 he'll give ya the address of the hyundai dealership.
  8. i get a kick out of their adds We bought this 30$ tile for 21$ from direct buy! - meanwhile its 8$ at the home depot. direct buy justs starts out with enormous price tags, knocks 'em down and makes you think its a deal. don't let you 'share' your membership with anyone else. membership fee is ridiculous. many ways to get better deals.
  9. it bothers me that most of these offers are based on what joe cheapo wants to pay, not what the item is worth. the idea is to come up with a fair, market value price. i dont mind offers from a buyer that did their homework, demonstrates other adds to show my item selling cheaper. but to offer 200 on a 500 dollar listinds without doiing some basic research on the item - go pound salt fella. it is not worth your time responding but i usually cant help myself
  10. assuming it hasn't been on the bottom for a while.... nothing says the engine is fried, but you won't know if you can't run it nothing says the wiring is burned, but you can test it all i owned a 27' for years that had made 2 trips to the bottom, mechanically and electrically sound. (obviously not watertight though)however, there were a million little things that would show up without fail.. you can get lucky or you can get a huge headache. if you don't have the experience to test and evaluate the boat prior to purchase than you dont have the experience to fix those problems, so save yourself the headache. if you know alot about engines and wiring than you could take a chance if i had a boat worth fixing id fix it if it wasn't worth fixing id sell it.... if the boat was an easy fix....why would it be for sale???
  11. nothing like coming home from a hard day's work to a big ol' plate of bass.....
  12. the painting is really nice work, the detail in paintings amazes me. however, that dude won't get anywhere kneeling there with handpicked flowers....
  13. nice work. the "livewell" doesn't seem to be having the desired effect...
  14. dana - awesome. we were all missing that part. a little irony there for sure...
  15. no clubbing necessary. dump them in the bucket and ice em for the drive home. port maitland will hold perch for a little while as well as dover. same style of pier fishing
  16. nice work, good looking fish. you can go from a survival suit to shorts in about 2 hours this time of year. i fish alone all the time. its likely related to my sparkling personality.
  17. nothing worse than watching a guy take 5 minutes to get a hook out of a fishes mouth. or put his gloves on while the fish thrashes around on the deck. you have to be aggressive when you handle fish - or maybe deliberate is a better word. pick the thing up and take the hook out! experienced fisherman can remove a hook quickly and smoothly. and they dont let every fish swallow the hook to the anus. i dont photograph fish. i know what a fish looks like. and so do you. i like to catch a fish in the sense that i found it and convinced it to bite. after that i dont even care if it makes it into the boat. any you dont have to keep every single thing you catch! your post started like quite the sermon but i think you made some fine points. raised awareness. good job!
  18. beautiful - belongs on a mailbox or bus stop somewhere...
  19. goodyear wrangler silent armour is the best tire i have come across. may be a little pricier than the tires mentioned but has the best combination of performance, low road noise, traction, and durablity. not too mention a fairly aggressive look as well. while i was never terrbily impressed with the michelins, there must be something to them as they seem to get a lot of good reviews. personally, if i can't identify/never heard of a manufacturer i think there is a reason for that. 150$ for something other than the big names doesn't seem that sharp for a 15" tire. good luck
  20. i was thinking kind of what terry stated, im not going to keep it anyway and its just gonna stink up my boat. if i lost it boatside im still gonna tell you guys i caught it..... back in the day i met this chick named barb, she said she was on the rebound....what a weekend!
  21. the link eludes me but are there not some live action harbour cams on kempenflet bay? maybe it was the weather channel or something. you could check current conditions before you left.. some body must know the web link??
  22. they are not slow and fast lanes. the speed you are driving is irrelavant. they are DRIVING lanes and PASSING lanes. if you are being passed by traffic on the right you are in the wrong lane regardless of your speed. unless you are actively passing you belong in the far right or DRIVING/CURB lane. slower moving traffic, no matter what the speedometer says is a huge impediment to traffic flow. it also forces a dangerous condition where oversize/commercial vehicles are forced all the way to the outside passing lanes to pass the slow moving vehicle in the middle. now all 3 lanes have slowed and no one can overtake. now a bunch of jockeys start doing double lane changes and passing on the inside. it is all related to the middle lane guy who thinks its safer to be in the middle. think about it, you want to be safe? only have traffic on one side of you at a time and leave yourself 'an out' (ie the shoulder). this would leave the driving or curb lane as your safest lane. having traffic wizzing past you on both sides is hardly the safest conditon for you to be in. if ya dont like it check the drivers handbook and the highway traffic act. they both address lane use and its never discussed what speed you are travelling, just fast and slow moving traffic. of course at the 20km/hr toronto traffic moves, it really doesn't matter what lane you are in.
  23. fly in to just about everything north of sudbury. the grand slam of marlin sounds like a lot of work - i think id just hire you to do it for me....
  24. yo can fish all along the pier at the park thru the slop, or try some shorelines along the waterfront trail. or - you could hit the peelers for 2 hours while you wait....
  25. lake matteos, mexico. her ya on the alliston!
