  1. Great way to start the day! Awesome video Ben
  2. I posted something about black spots on catfish from the Holland River.. But there was no real solid answer as to what was causing it. Not sure if that's the one your looking for Brian? http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56586&st=0&p=617589&hl=catfish&fromsearch=1entry617589
  3. Sled needed some work after that. I forgot to close the powder flap on the front. Sucked in a TON of snow. I didn't realize. The snow melted a bit, then when I turned my sled off, it all froze! EVERYTHING was frozen in a block of ice..... Simcoe two years ago.
  4. I've seen it before on catfish out of Simcoe.
  5. Took her for a rip the other day to go fetch my ground blind. The foot of snow we had earlier in the week collapsed my blind, and ripped big opening in the side. Sled started on the 3rd pull, and ran like a charm! 89ish Bravo. Gutless machine, but I love it! I can lift the back (or front) with one arm)
  6. Welcome back man! Congrats on the new outlook on life!
  7. Unless your son his incredibly small...That's a huge perch!
  8. thanks for posting these photos. Great way to start the week. I remember seeing some of them before. Really great shots!
  9. The gear will come with time. For your first year on the ice, your main concern should be ice safety IMO. It can be very safe on the ice. But you can land your self in life threatening situations very easily if your not careful. As for your questions. I would run 8 - 12 lb braid ice line. Med Heavy Rod 8" Auger. Just make sure the Auger is collapsible for putting in your car.
  10. Brutal. Not to sure what to say. Hopefully this guy gets straightened out.
  11. Looks like good time by all. I like the little snowman. OFC mascot!

Right on Chad! To bad you didn't get anything for the table. I went for a walk on Orr Lake today, out about 50 feet. A good few inches there, but only in the shallow water (less then 2'). The rest is wide open.
  14. My cousin just got a job with a company called Stantec. He had a job offer from another company as well. Both in GTA. Might try looking them up if you have not already.
  15. For field dressing I use a fixed blade buck knife. This one. http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/547860783_1/OEM-Buck-Knife-Special-Rubber-Hand-Stainless-Steel-Blade-Full-Length-20-5cm-Hand-Tools.jpg Good grip with slippery hands. I prefer a fixed blade myself. No worries about getting cut while closing the blade with bunged up hands, or with rubber gloves on.
  16. 100%. It will be gone in no time.
  17. Maybe I LOVE Simcoe perch fishing!
  18. I've only herd of one or two people that have ever caught a pike there in the past few years. I also herd there are a few cottagers that have been importing fish in to the lake. Crappies... Not sure what that will do to the lake. I have never heard of anyone catching a crappie in there before either. And the bass. Well, they are few and far between for the most part. And they are fussy.
  19. I'm not sure. I don't see anything in the regs about it. I thought I remember hearing something about restrictions on the lake. To be honest, I've only lived in the area for a year. And last winter the ice didn't form on the lake. Every time I hit the spud, it went thru in one or two hits, all year.. The lake is full of natural springs, and has very inconsistent ice. On that note...If you plan on going out, let me know
  20. You should throw it again this year Brian. Pike in the morning. Hooters for beer (and scenery) in the aft.! I think Alex is of age.. If not, he sure looks the part
  21. I measured 13" this morning... Crazy. That's over 30 cm of snow. And it aint even December yet! At this point, would the snow falling in the water help cool it down more? Sure..Once the ice is there, snow is bad. But to cool the water down before it freezes, is snow good?
  22. A friend of a friend works there. Said an RV in their showroom caught fire. Doesn't take long for it to swallow the entire building. Scary stuff. Glad that know body was hurt.
  23. We set up 2 new stands on the weekend. Hopefully they pan out for the late shotgun season next week!
  24. Thanks. It's a to heat!
  25. Awesome! Good looking kid you made there. I have a 3 month old boy at home. Good luck
