I went to the meeting. my opinion is the decision is already made and it was just a way to formally include the public. Many questions were not answered and they just directed us to write to the email they provided. I believe they do not know the cause of the walleye decline. They knew of the decline back in 2011 and did nothing about it. one of the suggestions from the MNR was even if the lake was closed for walleye they still wanted to see how it would balance out before doing anything. how much longer are they going to wait? who really knows many good questions raised from the audience including a few from myself and as mentioned not really a whole lot of answers provided. pretty certain stocking is not in the equation by the sounds of it. as for the spawning habitats etc they couldn't say what they would be doing to improve the habitats if anything at all at this time. the creel survey from this winter showed only 73 walleye caught and just 2 harvested. lol sorta laughable. yes the trend was consistent from year to year but pretty sad to say only 2 walleye harvested all of 2015 ice fishing season. the overall attendance was pretty good with the majority actually being local people from the community which was good to see. we will have to wait and see what decision they will make for the 2016 season

Been many times. Love it over there Enjoy the "coffeeshops" , museums, amazing restaurants and culture. I would probably agree fishing will not make it on my list things to do the next time I go either If you are looking for a good restaurant in Amsterdam check out casa di David. It's in the Jordaan district. Reservations pretty much required. Another good one is a small place but amazing Indian food. It's called balraj and its on haarlemerstaaat. On the way to the restaurant pop into one of the many coffeeshops to help build your appetite. Haha If your looking for something outdoors to do go walk through many of the beautiful parks all over the city. The popular one is vondelpark but many others. The redlight district is fun for a night of bar hopping and taking in the scenery. Lmao Enjoy your trip. If you know what area of the city you are staying I can help more.

I set some goals for myself beginning of january 1. 40 inch pike through the ice - check 2. 10+ pound walleye through the ice - check 3. 15+ pound laker through the ice - check 4. 20+ catfish in the spring - almost there just shy of 20 so far but lots of time left 5. another 50 inch muskie this summer - cant wait for LOTW and St Clair. 6. 15 pound walleye this fall . I know its a stretch but ya never know. hahaha got close last year with a solid 14.

one more important thing to check out if you use your boat early or late in the season is to confirm if you have a lay up period. many insurance companies will not cover you on the water during certain times of the year. for example I had a policy once with Intact Insurance and they would not cover me on the water before April 1 and after Nov 15. I found the best coverage with Optimum insurance. full replacement cost and coverage year round is a must for me while on the water. best of luck on the search

Lol buy a 80 dollar lure that weighs 4-8 ounces and get a backlash mid cast. Your opinion will change Hell do it with a 20 dollar lure.

also I wouldn't worry so much about the birdsnest. the heavier braid is much easier to untangle a birdsnest should you get one. definitely stick to 80-100 pound braid. you will be happy with it. I would also make sure you upgrade your rod to something 8 feet or longer as pete suggested. heavy action if you are looking for just one rod. the new shimano compres are much lighter than years past and pretty affordable. all the best with the muskie hunting. it certainly becomes an addiction

good luck finding the best colors. they are sold out everywhere. I have been stocking up for weeks and so have many others. hahaha

cabelas guide wear... hands down the winner.. I have owned them all. that or the simms one. but the simms is much more expensive

I buy my musky gear at Muskytackleonline.com and the odd time thornebros. Thornebros shipping is pretty expensive though. Tough right now with the dollar the way it is. Was much cheaper for us when our dollar was closer to par with the U.S. dollar. Also cabelas for other stuff. They have been good with me on the orders I have placed Oh yeah one last one which is a local guy is protackle in Belleville. He now has walleye and bass sites too and great stock of baits normally

every order I have placed with them has been delivered very fast. I too got a confirmation number and order update email advising it has shipped. my dealings with customer service have also been great.

I have a few revo toro's 61 (lefty) and have been pretty happy with them. I have had to get them serviced at least every 2 years but I use them quite a bit. I recently bought a Calcutta 401D which is also a lefty reel and have to say I enjoy using it more than the toro's. The toros are low profile so they are a bit more comfortable but the Calcutta is much smoother and overall performs better in my opinion. I recently bought another 401D I liked it so much I also have a okuma komodo which they make with a high gear ratio. I use this on my jerkbait/topwater rod and really enjoy it. Its also a low profile reel and much cheaper than the above options. I prefer this reel over the daiwa lexa 400 and they are similar priced. as for rods I would stick with the st Croix legends or the NEW shimano compres if you want to save a few bucks. I say new because the old ones are heavy as hell but I have used the new ones and they weren't bad. also I once stayed in the clear water on lake of the woods with fisherpete......we drove 30 miles one way to get the hell out of that area each day....needless to say we have never been back to the clear water.

yes I have been to the shops in fort frances and Sioux narrows. they aren't too bad if your in those areas but a bit of a hike from kenora

I too am enjoying this years winter. fishing has been great too so that is a bonus. sled trails are beautiful right now too, finally putting some kms on my machine. also last year fishing was incredible. yes you have to adapt but from catfish to muskie they all need to eat.
