  1. Fished a 10 ft deep weed flat with a perch crankbait at the cottage. Thought I had a musky on the way it was pulling. Very happy to see a 26 inch walleye. Nice and fat. Big breeder fish. Had to go back in. Slot size is 30-50cm Water temp 73. Water clear
  2. Won't matter if the Yanks let them into Lake Michigan
  3. Boy would I like to spend a couple of weeks on that lake. Much boat traffic?
  4. Wow! That was worth watching.
  5. Never tried it with a baitcaster, but with a spinning reel, braid is trouble when you jerk and pause. Either top water or jerkbaits. The line goes on slack, and knots eventually when you cast. I have also found I lose jumping smallies. When they are in the air, as they tip their heads to the rod for a split second, the lines goes slack with braid and makes the hook more able to be spit. I asked a Pro at the fishing show and they seem to agree. I think a little stretch is good. I'm still looking for a mono that has less stretch and is still limp. I like the feel of braid but hate the knots. Anybody know of a good mono? peter
  6. I'm no expert but when they are saying pickerel, they are referring to chain pickerel, not walleye. I think a chain pickerel is a type of pike. I don't think a northern pike and walleye could mate and reproduce successfully. Too different Do we have chain pickerel in Ontario? peter
  7. smart thought. learned that the hard way. tires cracked and failed on my first boat. I know you you can buy tires covers from the RV people
  8. I think they call them Mother-in-law Fish
  9. A dead mouse...no problem. I've never liked using live minnows. Feel sorry for them as I hook them. But they sure catch more fish esp in clear water Worms....no problem since they are a more primitive animal. But they aren't happy when you cut them up. I wonder how many duckings and loon chicks get taken out by muskie on the Kawarthas. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen a cormorant chick swim with it's family peter
  10. Had a bit of time to kill today so dropped into a large, busy Chinese supermarket in Markham for a snoop. They have a huge seafood department. Noticed "wild crappie and rock bass" for sale in a pile on ice. Not huge. 6 inches or so. How is this possible?
  11. Looks like the Trent System water levels are where they should be. I was kinda concerned 2 weeks ago. Me happy http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentsevern/visit/ne-wl/trent_e.asp
  12. couple pounds of eggs
  13. The way I figure it, perhaps they have the best additives for my girl. For the extra $20 to keep my $12K investment running optimally, Id rather pinch pennies elsewhere. Like $60 for dinner out.
  14. I pay thru the nose for Yamalube for my 115, but worth the peace of mind. I hope.
  15. Make sure you strap her down before you take off
  16. Heaven forbid but you might have to take up golf
  17. Hey Cliff. Don't know if you know about this website. Gives current water levels on Trent System lakes. Looks like Sturgeon is way low. Pigeon (where I am) is higher and almost normal. What gives? http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentsevern/visit/ne-wl/trent_e.asp
  18. Hey Cliff, are water levels coming back up?
  19. Didn't know they discontinued the Revo Toro. Anybody know why? I bought one 2 yrs ago. best musky reel I've ever had.
  20. Good genes in that broad. Glad you released her
  21. Thanks again Mercman and everybody else. We have decided to purchase a machine likely from Sears since they have a store in Peterborough (20 min south of cottage) Still not sure which. The GE Profile machine is almost as expensive as a Miele. 50% more than the Bosch we were looking at. Kitchen Aids are also over a Grand. We were wondering if we buy a Bosch from Sears -shouldn't they be able to service it 20 min away?
  22. Love the pink gloves!
  23. Thanks Mercman. I appreciate your input. Very confusing for us consumers. Consumer Reports rates the Bosch machines the best and GE doesn't even show up in the top 50 according to them. I don't mind paying extra for greater reliability but would hate to do so for a problem machine
  24. My take. Is that if the kitchen is of standard dimensions, and you don't require custom sized cabinets, you would save around 25% at least if you buy from Lowes/HD for similar quality. Especially if you wait till kitchens go on sale. I did my kitchen 3 yrs ago. $16K for big box with compromise on cabinet size. $21K for custom and a perfect fit/design. Don't go to big box for counters. For either stone or laminate, you can do better going direct to the manufacturer My son in Ottawa just ordered a standard L shaped kitchen with island from Ikea. $6K -and that included laminate countertops, an Ikea dishwasher and he was even given a $1,500 gift card for Ikea. The quality is supposed to be good. The good news is you usually get your money back when you sell with the upgraded kitchen. peter
  25. Hey Guys. I need to replace a dishwasher at the cottage. Are any less troublesome than others? I will be shutting the cottage down in the winter and will have winterize it. Are some harder to do that? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
