  1. Are you saying you are catching perch 2+lbs?
  2. Personally, I struggle with having multiple rods for different types of lures. I feel it is mostly marketing by manufacturers. I think line is important. Huge difference in action at the end of the line between mono and braid. Softer tip with braid, I say. Need a bit of shock absorber. Hooks getting ripped out of mouth with too hard a hookset. With smallies that tend to jump, mono and or softer tip keeps hooks engaged into lip rather than braid that goes temporarily limp when fish's head bends toward road when fish in the air.
  3. Just came back from the fishing show. Wondering if these lures are worth their extra expense. Perch, and sunfish styles look pretty good to this fisherman. But do the fish like them.
  4. $20 lb. expensive taste
  5. Don't know but would the Brand warranty be honoured out of province like a car's would
  6. Grind a little up and sprinkle on your morning Cherrios. Aphrodesiac they say.......not that you need it, Lew just sayin
  7. maybe take up golf?
  8. awesome
  9. good boat, fair motor, great price IMO trailer?
  10. Maybe best alround spinning line for me is Berkley Crystal. Braid made for spinning reels. Supposed to be harder to see underwater. 10 lb. Add a steel leader and you're set for pike too. BaddaBoom
  11. Don't forget. Real Estate doesn't always go up. In the late 80's, bought 1st house at the top of the market (like now) for $192K. Sold it after 5 yrs with some monor improvements for $155K. Young folks haven't experienced that. It's coming. When mortgage rates go up 1%, they say 10% of people have to sell. Their mortgage payments will go up by 1/3 potentially. Be careful flipping. I admire those who can gut a house and make it smile.
  12. would like to see it on hardwood and throw in a few knots
  13. Was thinking the same. No better place on earth Solid banking system. not perfect Solid legal system. not perfect Cops not on the take. Choice to pursue your dreams. or not Freedom of speech Healthcare. not perfect Education not perfect Elected Government Support for the underpriviledged 90% of the people on the Earth have little or none of this and would do anything to live here Now if you can shorten winter and tell me how to catch a walleye in Aug on Pigeon -PRICELESS!!!
  14. Reminds be of the documentary I saw of a river flowing into the Arctic Ocean in Russia. A uranium processing plant was located upstream of a town. The scientist walked down to the river with lots of children splashing in the water on a hot summer day. As he approached the shore, his Geiger Counter (measures radiation) went from tick, tick - to screaming . The government assured the residents that all was safe even in the face of huge levels of cancer amoungst the people. Not sure if things have changed for the better.
  15. fixed income folks have it tough for sure. Their savings earn squat at the bank. Not even keeping up with inflation. I guess there are food banks. Put an extra sweater on but these are only bandaids. Bottom line, we have to prepare for retirement better. Solid financial planning has to happen and start early I heard David Chilton (Wealthy Barber) speak a few weeks ago. He says most of us have done a poor job living within our means and saving for the future. ie job loss, illness, retirement. His formula, live on 90% of what you make and invest the rest. Start young and things will work out. Usually.
  16. great memories of smelt fries on the beach on Simcoe
  17. Want to pull the trigger on a more comfortable spinning rod used mostly for rip jigging bucktails. My Shimano rods are great but a bit heavy and I hate the exposed threads that irritate my finger after a while casting. Plus my Sahara gets loose on the rod after every 10-20 casts. What is the deal with the rods that are missing cork between reel and butt of rod? Is this just a weight thing? Is it significant.? I'm not into spending big bucks on a rod. Shimanos have gone up a lot in price lately it seems. Looking on-line at Berkley Lightning rods. Hidden thread. About $30 at Lebaron. I'm happy to spend up to about $80 for a good rod. Any tips out there? thanks, Peter
  18. Trying to decide if Sportsman Show is worthwhile $19 admission plus parking LeBaron no tax sale Feb 5 -23.
  19. compared to going out to eat and laying down $50+ for 2 for a meal, pokin around the Sportsman Show in the middle of a crappy winter, compares pretty well. unless of coarse you're in the dog house
  20. You may be a renovator but you best also be a divorce lawyer, I'd say.
  21. remember Spring Fishing Show next weekend I believe
  22. Amazing. Lower or Upper?
  23. Having a hard time imagining that the Federal government would give grants to an American retail business to get them to come here.
  24. Consider 1. Proximity to hospital 2. Shopping. Banking. Beer store. Gas. Home Depot. Costco. 3. Species of fish you target. 4. Proximity to social/community stuff. 5. Boating opportunities. ie. Trent System. vs landlocked lake 6. BLACKFLIES. -way less in Kawarthas 7. Granite vs limestone. Stoney Lake/Lower Buckhorn/Northeast Pigeon/Big Bald- could be Muskoka. 8. Proximity to neighbours 9. Boat traffic 10. Stable water levels. Can't beat the Trent. (till Thanksgiving) We chose North east Pigeon for all the above reasons with some compromise. I need walleye and muskie. When friends in Muskoka/Haliburton are slaughtered by blackfies in May/June I just smile Just sayin Good luck with your decision
  25. Usually during the Sportsman Show and perhaps Spring Fishing Show
