  1. Noticed when I looked up that some mortar was loose on the top of my chimney. House is 25 yrs old. Climbed up to have a look. The mortar around the clay pipes is soft and worn. Also the mortar that joins the 2 cement caps was loose. Water was getting through and freeze/thaw cycle damaged many of the bricks below. Talking to my engineer bro, seems this is a common problem that only gets worse and results in an irreversibly, badly damaged chimney that would need to be replaced. He told me to chip out all the loose mortar, clean with wire brush and re-cement after wetting old cement first. Sloping the new cement so water runs off. Also remove the loose brick faces and repair with cement where possible. Thought you all should know. Fortunately weather is still good enough to do the job.
  2. I would call your local well driller. Inquire with him. Springs are funny things. The local guys know the groundwater in your area.
  3. Interesting Cliff Sounds like a standard email response that most would get. Somebody forwarded your post. But how did they get your info?
  4. You could dig a 15-30 ft well outside of your basement. Have a pump keep it drained to well below your basement level. Hopefully will lower the water table in a few weeks. Foundation and floor might crack with the water gone.
  5. Eh?
  6. Local public course was pretty busy today. You Simcoe hard water guys might be SOL.
  7. Repaired my fibreglass canoe that way without the metal 15 yrs ago. Been great since and it takes a pounding. Not sure if same would apply with plastic.

  11. Would you give up soft water fishing like he does for $31 mil? No way! Yeah right. ?
  12. Not even remotely related to fishing. I have a nasty big toe nail fungal infection and should probably have the nail removed. Thinking I should see a podiatrist. Does anybody know if their services are covered by OHIP? Or should I see my family Doc. Thanks Peter
  13. Use to think "crazy Americans". But happened in Sweden, Ottawa, Alberta Could be in our backyard some day.
  14. Just looked it up. Devils Hole. Is that between the outflows of the Hydro Plants? Upstream from the bridge. Isn't that where the charter boat got partially sucked under and 2 guests were lost?
  15. Fattest girl I've seen! Looks like from Minnesota

  17. Anybody know which slot rules have worked out better for the eye populations. Rules on Balsam or those on the rest of the Kawarthas. I understand it is an experiment by the MNR.
  18. Sorry. My bad. Private property

  20. Didn't think traffic cops have authority on public property.
  21. Just read the story in Mclean's about the whale watching boat that capsized off Tofino. Water was 12 C. A female deck hand managed to get 1 flare off. Fishermen 10 min away saw it and saved 21 people. Some covered in diesel. 5 died. Sobering story. Gotta get some flares if out on big water. Maybe for me too on Pigeon.
  22. Agreed. Last year was good on Pigeon anyway. Low winter levels and steady spring levels.
  23. Incredible as usual. Koodos to you for taking the time to post What the hell do those lakers eat to get so fat? The lake must be healthy.
  24. Good. And provide enforcement.
