Actually I've lived a few houses off Lake Ontario since the early 80's and swam in Erie as a kid in the late 50's, both lakes were in better shape in the 80's than late 60's early 70's , especially Erie. Biggest difference I've seen since the 80's is water clarity, thankyou Zebra Mussels. They oiled the strip of gravel in front of my 3 room elementary school in the 50's, by the 90's I am sure it was calcium chloride for dust control but flip a coin on which is worse. Yeah we burned our garbage in the country 50/60's, but I bet you can't find a burned can today( actually they recommended back country campers burn cans and bury them years ago) as they disintegrate quickly after being burnt unlike today's aluminum cans and pop came in glass returnables like beer, no empty water bottles or Timmies cups either littering everywhere. That oil change spot was probably a local thing. Way less than 100 years for plastic bags, paper ruled before about 1980. Somewhere between my generation and yours, people turned into slobs.

Not disputing the fact that it is getting warmer, just the fact that man probably has very little effect on what has been going on for millenniums and we are nearly powerless to stop it, but yes we need to stop being slobs. Actually the garbage throwing is worse today than back in the seventies and before. Maybe we should go back to all returnable bottles and ban fast food.............edit at least take out

Exactly, just a few months shy of 70, the 60's and 70's we were concerned about global cooling and the effects on agriculture, then acid rain in the 80's, then fluorocarbons were eating a hole in the ozone layer in the 90's, then after 2000 it was global warming, now they call it a climate change crisis. I can see both glacial deposits and fossils of a much warmer era within a mile of walking out my back door. I've read that over 90% of the species to ever roam the earth are now extinct, we didn't do it to but just a few perhaps. Fool me once, shame on you , fool me twice, shame on me. Remember " the climate will balance itself "

The jointed Canadian Wigglers can handle some pretty good trolling speeds, speeds that will flip a flatfish or kwikfish on it's back and ride to the surface.

Nice , I've caught a bunch of Erie Pickeral on that pattern Canadian Wiggler but only on the jointed model. They also worked on spring Chinnies in the lake.

I didn't get married till I was 49, so I sorta skipped the expense of an ex, so I had a bit of cash saved before tying the knot/noose , retired in May 2008 and lost almost a third of it in the crash later that year but made it back on the rebound, only ever had 1 card, Chargex, think it is called Visa now, it was supposed to be for emergencies but somehow all the online crafting outfits have my number now, married life .

Johnny , it is all over the place cause of the supplement depending on your income. I am lucky, my American wife of 20 years, yesterday was our anniversary, has never drawn a paycheque in Canada, so I do the income splitting thing to the MAX, get a bit of a supplement cause my income is lowered. Get someone to help with the taxes or a good program, lots of tax advantages with age, you'll be surprised how little you pay .

It's only CPP you can take early, gotta wait to 65 for the OAS. I got lucky they changed the formula for early withdrawal after I took it , you'll get less now.

Retired at 57, I took CPP at 60 , my OAS just started at 65 with any further input on my part. You should get free ( not really with all the taxes we paid ) drugs now after a $100 deductible , got my eyes checked last week, OHIP does that yearly for us old folks, some other stuff too , like tax breaks.

Remember those kids at the grocery store, sitting in the basket, screaming and yelling, grabbing stuff in an apparent total meltdown, while their parents did absolutely nothing. We said " God help us when they grow up " Guess what.

At one time I'd take a light weight fly outfit to the Grand and catch Mooneyes, June was the month I recall. It was actually a popular event with local fly guys and I recall a few of them got smoked, very similar fish.

maybe a enforced speed limit like 70 KPH would make sense on public waterways ? boater's card level of training is obviously deficient with the speeds a lot of craft run today.
