Rich, lived in Port Rowan for a few years back in the early 70's, A few guys , me included , would fish channels all summer right up to duck season surf casting lake side off Hasting's Ave, best spot was where the old creek channel comes close to the lake. Wade a few yards out to the first bar and cast, come back to shore and set up in a rod holder and wait, some evening the action was very good. Can't see that they are still not there.

I didn't want to be the first to rain on your parade Misfish, but I was thinking the same thing. Is it marked as a creek on a top sheet? or are you familiar with it say on Aug 1st. flow levels.

Google " roll and tip painting "
-
Retired from the steel coating industry, surface prep and proper primer are 99% of getting good adhesion of paint on steel.
-
For wire dipsey rods , just replace the tip top with a twilly spring top , there is roller guide rods but they are big bucks and not necessary. Put the whole 1000 feet of wire on the Convector 30 , it will fit.
-
I suggest running only 4 rods to start, 2 riggers and 2 dipsies off to the side, until you get a lot of experience. Maybe add a 10 colour leadcore in the slot off the back next. I would also recommend the convector/talora combos to start. 50 lb braid will be ok with dipsies until the fleas start , but I'd say start with wire divers and be done with it.

S. Carolina has first Cormorant hunt...11,653 less birds now!
dave524 replied to farsider's topic in General Discussion
I really can't see anyone actually eating them as food, bet they'd be more unpalatable than a Merganser I would think that they are classed as vermin, but letting them return to the ecosystem where they fall might not win points with the anti's. Migrate???, I thought the birds in southern Ontario just flocked up on Lake Ontario for the winter or so it seems to this lakeside resident -
Real rednecks don't carry Glocks

Sturgeon are cool , think I saw a Sauger in that mix too.

Unfortunately, I believe it is only for residents , most of the outfitter business was out of Province hunters, really bear hunting is not that popular with residents.

Would gave been a decent day, less than 6" ripple and was 60F here today at my place, 100 yds from the lake. edit: there is a webcam at 50 PT that gives a good shot of the lake conditions if that is any help. http://www.fpyc.ca/webcam/default.php

How long is the open water boating season up there? 8 maybe 10 weeks on a good year
-
Had to run to St Kitts this morning, there was some empty trailers at Jordan and a half a dozen boats working the outflow. Lake was pretty flat and the mudline was in close to shore, maybe a 100 yds of muddy water till you hit the clearer stuff.

Sea Nymph Striper 17 foot, nice boat for a tinny reconstruct. It was on my short list back in 82 when I bought my first boat. If I remember right even though it was 17 it was wider and deeper than the 18 Starcraft Mariner, few guys had them out on Lake Ontario. Can we get a progress report with pictures and hope you know about the iboats forum, lot of tinny rebuilds in the Starcraft forum.

I liked the Blakemore "Road Runner " style of spinner bait better than the safety pin type setup when fishing for crappie, a countdown style of retreive works the best especially when they are suspended, find the magic number.

My Erie perch rod is an ancient 5 1/4 foot one piece, Fenwick HMG, very light but rated for 1/4 to 5/8oz wts. paired up with an ultralite reel and braid , I find it ideal.
-
Don't go really noodly on the rod, perch on Erie are frequently in 40 feet of water , 1/2 oz. sinker and long hooksets are better with a stiffer action . edit: the ultra lite I use on small creek trout is not the one I use on Erie perch.

Check this out! No more cable bills! All the tv you can watch!

We are retired and like our TV shows. Rather than doing the pvr programming nightmare for them we've been downloading all of them the morning after and watching at our convenience. Been using this site for over 5 years now. We only use our satelite now for live sports pretty well. Get a bit torrent app and watch your download cap , if you have one. We got a few British crime dramas we watch now too, great programming over there . This could be another option for those just interested in shows. https://eztv.it/ -

what song are you listening to right now???
dave524 replied to fishing n autograph's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I'm old enough to remember the sixties, for my money the best decade of music would be from 1965 to 75, my favourite even when in high school in the 60's was blues influenced music, electric blues both American and the stuff that British groups like Cream, the original Fleetwood Mac, the Stones and John Mayall and others reinvented. This stuff almost always has virtuoso guitar playing like we have very rarely heard in any period since, some specific songs still give me goosebumps like they did hearing them for the first time almost 50 years ago, like this one. -
Trolling Lake Ontario for Trophy Spring Browns
dave524 replied to Aaron Shirley's topic in General Discussion
Actually, for the last 30 years I've lived a 2 minute walk from the old pumphouse/pier here in Grimsby, can see the lake from my place I was trying to put some perspective on how close to shore you should be for early browns. Most of the guys are too far out from my experience. -
