  1. You want 50+ degree water temps to help your chances.... Canned sweet corn works well... Pineapple boilies are good too... I'd try to fish minimum 3 feet deep for larger fish..... Back bays and creeks are good early... If you can figure out how to tie a "hair rig" they work well... YouTube has a ton of videos on this... Carp should be open year round.... I don't know anywhere with a season on carp with a rod and reel... A trick for finding where they feed us to put some corn in one day where you can see it... Go back the next day... If its gone you got a spot... Also... If you have multiple locations to choose from take a drive... Spend an hour looking for fish... If you see fish then you'll have confidence in your spot...
  2. Not a fan either... I prefer a regular gimble bracket where possible... My brother has a 10" unit on 2 ram mounts... Doesn't hold worth a poop... I've even used big heavy duty ones with computers on lift trucks... Not the greatest... I'm guessing there are some situations where they're good... But I haven't seen it yet... But sometime you have to compromise due to limitations...
  3. If you plan on fishing more then 2 people you'll need the 16' for space... Not performance... If you fish solo... Or 2 in the boat... 3 people a few times a year...I'd get the deepest widest 14 footer you can... Without decks... I had a 25 Suzuki on my 16' Lund explorer when I bought it used... It was great alone... Got 25 mph... And my boat has decks and live well and everything... But 2 people it was sluggish... And dropped to 20mph... 3 people was a no go....
  4. Dang... Not really what I was hoping to hear... Thanks everyone....
  5. So over the past few years my front porch has sunk in one corner...I know I know... I should have fixed it when I noticed... But anyways... Today I dug down to the bottom of the post to find it had slipped off the base... So I jacked it up and rebuilt a new wider base...then I let her down... But when I stepped back the porch-roof/awning...stairs... still looked twisted... So I was thinking because it twisted over the course of a few years... Maybe it has to twist back? Settle in...??? So I left the hole unfilled and the "said corner" a bit higher then where I want it... So I can come back to it for adjustments... So what do you guys think... Will it twist back...?? I think/hope so... Lol Thanks
  6. I have family that ran the marathon.... She was only about a mile away when the explosion occurred... Very scary day
  7. The iPhone app hasn't worked right in a long time....
  8. There's a small pond attached to the st.lawrence that gets a good run of them.... I used to fish bullhead there... One day I saw 10+ caught in a few hours on a hook and night crawler..... Also... I've seen them in several creeks on the st.lawrence... Like others have said... Very aggressive... If you spot one I'd be very surprised if you ccouldnt catch it... I've caught em on weedless frogs... Texas rigged worms... Spinnerbaits... Jigs... I've even seen em eating fish guts in the boathouse after cleaning fish...
  9. Does your clamp on fit on your boat..??? I'm assuming yes.... Just get 3 more... Burt's systems are more for boats that cannot clamp on
  10. Started with bass and pike as a kid... Then a little walleye... Then musky addiction.... Then carp... Currently walleye are my drug... With a healthy portion of musky and carp to mix things up...
  11. I like my 10.5 foot ML as far as best tool for the job... But not the greatest fight....
  12. I tried 100lb flouro once... Too hard to tie... But I got a 53" musky my first night testing them... Walleye dint seam to care how thick the line is... I've tried a bunch and 40lb is plenty strong and easy to tie....
  13. Extra insurance.... Peace of mind... Haven't had one fail yet... Even with accidental musky...
  14. And by tying them short and tying a leader with a swivel and snap swivel... You eliminate that anoying line twist tangle that can happen with spinners....
  15. And we get walleye of all sizes on those...
  16. Size 4 blades... Size 2 hook... 5mm beads... And I use the plastic quick change clevises so I can switch blades instead of changing rigs all day... And I tie em short to fit in a tackle tray nicely...
  17. They are easy to make TJ... I make my own for walleye so they can handle what I throw at em... Store bought ones for some reason are made with light mono and garbage hooks... I use 40lb flouro... With supplies from cabelas and using 40lb flouro leader material it costs about $1 per spinner... That's paying retail for materials... And they would easily sell for $2+ per spinner...
  18. I just started focussing on tournaments.... It is a whole different way of fishing and mentality.... I love it.. Love the pressure.... Love the reward... Love the learning... And it feels good knowing you did it better xxxx other anglers that day... In the limited tournaments I've fished I've always been in top 10 and most I was top 5.... But I'm working really hard to consistently be in the top 3... I think once your winning money more often then not.... Then your doing really well...
  19. I've watched carp feeding on sucker eggs... They sit behind them in the current and gobble em up... That's how I know when it's time to fish that spot...
  20. I just find it strange how many different slots there are... Like here... In NY state you can only keep walleye over 18" Ontario zone 20 ...4 fish no more then 1 over 24"... But st Lawrence is an exception with no size limit.... Quebec is like 15-21" you can keep.... And that's for the same body of water... I would think the 3 different guidelines six cancel each other out....
  21. Thanks everyone... Sounds like proper cleaning and regular inspection are the solutions...
  22. Anyone have any tips/tricks to prevent this blue build up...? What causes this...? Moisture?
