  1. I've tried em... They're ok... And might help if your fishing really snaggy areas.... But not needed in most cases.... They are also stiffer then the normal gulp so movement is effected negatively.... But 3" gulp minnows work better... I haven't put a real worm on a harness in years... And we did the Pepsi challenge... Tested worms and gulp side by side... They performed equally... But less trouble with gulp.... No messy soil or worm guts to deal with.... ...
  2. 55" my brother caught this fish twice in one season....
  3. That's a bit of a grey area... I've been doing training courses for my new job and offering free guided trips for tournament funding/sponsorship might not look to good from an outsider standpoint... this can also get the person deciding whether or not to donate in trouble because a guided day of fishing is valuable enough to be considered a bribe... If they accept a "gift" of that value and it influences where they spend advertising money from their company.... That's bad news...
  4. It's tricky.... I've done it before... And realized pretty quickly that a full set up of carp gear fills a boat pretty fast... I'm looking to try again this year with a more streamlined approach....
  5. Wow thanks Great info here... When I was a kid everything was sponsored... This tourney used to be the "Labatts' walleye masters" when I was a kid and drew in anglers from all around... I know a guy that even won a truck in a local tournament.... Better economy then I guess.... Well at least I have a starting point.... Prepare my numbers and make well thought out pitches to a bunch of companies... And try to connect their product and sales to the tournament....
  6. It's very different.... A lot of second guessing your decisions... And considering we only get 1 rod in Ontario... All your eggs are in one basket... Overseas you get 2-3-4 rods... So you can have different baits out... Even NY state gets 3 rods now...
  7. I just used Rapala as an example... When you guys are saying to focus on what "we" can offer "them" .... What kinds of things are you referring too???... This is the sort of advice I need... Thanks Keep it coming
  8. Ok Well I guess it would be exposure through our advertising flyers and signage at the tournament... Give them an opportunity to show community support and help support the people that buy their products... I guess I'm looking for advice where to start.... I'm not looking to get a boat donated... Lol... Just hoping for some door prizes(sponsors products) and banners.... And then see where it goes.... ...
  9. Just wondering if anyone has any connections or advice on how to get a company to sponsor a tournament.... My brother and I are trying to grow our local walleye tournament.... Currently we get 20-30 boats.... We are only 1 hour from Montreal and Ottawa.... We are hoping if we can get a big name tackle company to "sponsor" the tournament in any way it will help with advertising and drawing in more anglers.... You know like the "Rapala walleye challenge" Then maybe guys will travel a bit and more locals will get excited.... Any advice would be appreciated...
  10. I've also fished side by side (sitting 10 feet apart) with other carp anglers and completely spanked them... Like 10-1... On a regular basis....
  11. There's a lot more too it then location.... Location is important to success but when "swims" are chosen they all hold fish.... And depending on wind/weather conditions the "best swim" can change every day.... And considering then length of a carp tournament baiting/chumming techniques are as important as location....
  12. X2 I'm 6'4" 265lbs.... You can try to take my money out of my pocket... I get cash on payday and I'm good till next pay... I hear lots of people getting cards scanned etc.... I don't know anyone that's had cash stolen....
  13. All the spots I get winter crappie are the same spots I catch spring and fall.... But that's on a river system.,,, ...
  14. Other then the Can-Am is there any others my way???
  15. My brothers 20 foot ranger tiller has a 115 (no hydraulic steering) and in rough water your fighting pretty hard with the tiller... Anyone getting a big tiller should strongly consider hydraulic steering like Titan....
  16. I don't see 2013 ofc tourney written in the snow of your pic...lol
  17. You can use Microsoft excel to randomize a column.... So you put your boaters in column "A" and non boaters in column "B" You randomize either column for completely random partnering... But this will not prevent one angler from being solo more then once.... Nor will it prevent the same two anglers from pairing up more then once.... Trying to eliminate those two criteria remove the "Random" concept....
  18. My thoughts are with you and your family Simon... Sean is a great guy and a joy to be around....
  19. Carp rods are usually finished with heavy duty shrink tubing ... Makes a really durable handle and very low profile
  20. Lol This brings up a funny story... When I was younger nature made its call.... So I hunkered down between a couple old boathouses... Grabbed some leafs... All is good right? WRONG...lol ... My brother showed up a minute after I finished.... Then he looked in the water and said he saw a big crayfish....lol... I insisted it was no crayfish without saying it was my poop out of embarrassment.... Sure enough I couldn't tell him any different.,. And he was keen on catching this "crayfish".... Anyone who's ever caught crayfish knows you gotta grab em fairly hard.... In the end he almost puked once he squeezed the handful of waste....and I blamed a turtle until many years had passed and we could laugh about it...
  21. We do that too Terry.... I didn't make it out due to work last year but the year before we boated 13 walleye between 12-1am.... And usually nobody else out there....
