I'm still catching at 5mph or faster... With musky you need to change it up... Change speed... Color...depth...running depth... Lure profile... The other day I was trolling for a couple hours... Kicked up the speed and in less then a minute I had hooked up a musky... They are hard to pattern... But you need to experiment...

How Do You Change A 3-Piece Rod To A 2-Piece?
mike rousseau replied to Photoz's topic in General Discussion
Go to the st croix website... $30 for the tip half of the rod for this exact reason -
That's another hurdle to overcome in a tuff economy... The temptation... I can make $1000 a trip in my boat running cigarettes across the river tomorrow... Instead we are just getting by...

depends... i ice fish alone 9 out of 10 days... so i got a larger one man... i got a clam fish trap pro flip over style shelter.... i can fish 2 rods... have a heater...a vexilar... and a minnow pail in my shack... i can actually squeeze in another person if u put the gear outside... just 2 rods and the vexilar inside... i do this with the girlfriend... and im 6'4" pushing 300lbs if you fish with others... then definatly get a 2-3 man shelter... either way... get a flip over style with a sled base...(if your vehicle can fit it) this way the sled base holds all your gear on the walk/drive out as for seats... buckets are good for storage of gear... but you sacrifice comfort... my fish trap shack has a built in boat style seat... i like it cause you can lean back and your back is supported... -
im not debating about government and lobbying... i know nothing about government... i dont even vote... im just saying... if most people are given a choice to help themselves and their families well being... or make choices that will benifit the comunity... i think most would chose themselves and their family over strangers... survival of the fittest... if these protests are about corperations controling government... then by all means...

Greed? How about this... You work at mcdonalds for minimum wage... And the manager gives you a choice... A $2 raise... Or 2 cents off fries in that store... What would you do? Think about yourself or the community? I know what I'd do... I'd worry about #1 and my family... Maybe I'm off base about protesting reasons... Bit I think this is a good comparison to corporate greed... No?

i did a search and couldnt figure out what they are protesting...

in the summer i soak the maize in water and strawberry cool-aid in a bucket for at least a week... when its colder... the buckets go in the basement... i dont bother boiling it cause i go threw way to much...5 gallons a day another way i do it is 3 parts maize...1 part sweet feed...1 part bird seed...soak the same way... this makes a really nice milky spod mix... i do this more where there isnt much current... you end up with a nice bait bed with a cloud of milky flavor floating around -

what fish? i have found that maize and a good groundbait in your swim will out produce boilies every time...as far as numbers of fish go... i was 100% boilies when i started carping... now im a maize guy... unless im stictly fishing for BIG st.lawrence carp... then its large boilies to keep the pesky little ones off... -
OMG Those are pricey!!!!!! Now what can that bait do that all the baits under $25 can't...?really?
-
sorry for your losses... great report tho... do you use the ciscoes for ice fishing? im a bit overstocked with big bait (9-12 inches) for musky...and was gunna freeze some for ice fishing... do you add anything in the baggy? or just the bait?
-
I wish I coulda taken video of the size of the waves on the Larry saturday musky fishing... But we all needed both hands to hang on.... Had the ranger 620T damn near vertical a couple times...

A day on the St. Lawrence with Musky Mike
mike rousseau replied to Dontcryformejanhrdina's topic in General Discussion
Thnx for the complements... In the end the biggest fish measuring 44.5 inches was the result of dontcryformejanhrdina's never quit attitude and determination... We all had dishpan hands and were chilly... And he was up in the front of the boat chucking baits... I chose the spot... He did the rest... And I was glad to see him get a PB on his rod and his lure that he picked... That'll give some confidence...
