Not a deformity, but an advantage... so that they may thrive and multiply!!

You're right CCMT. Poor thing.. Image the conditions that fish had to live in. Strange it lived to be that size. Guess it's less work with two yappers! HD

Loosing my favorite Fishing hole to Ants!
highdrifter replied to Anton Kanagasuntheri's topic in General Discussion
Ah yes.. sounds like you've met the shore fisherman's nemesis, the dreaded Fire ant! We wade to keep away from those little beasties and they still manage to find us... and they'll even hitch a ride for a while and sting hours afterwards!! I feel your anguish. Try mustard powder mixed with water.. It's an irritant more than anything, we use it to get worms before we'd out if we hadn't gone out worming the night before.. They squirm right outta their holes full speed.. It's pretty wild! I'd like to see them suckers squirm for once. cheers HD -
Oh now thats just a big tease!! I wanted to see it again... purty please? HD

Uummm.. WUT?! Beauty fish though! My guesstimate is 4.6lbs.. HD

Don't forget bluegills! We've pulled some dandies from there.. I've fished it many times, but we've found that the fishing was a little better on the West side of the lake, where the incline is steeper. Lots of small largies and bluegills on that side. If it's walleye or smallies you're after, try working white or black tubes on the East side of the lake. If you google earth Buckhorn, this lake will stand out. The sand is white and the water is crystal clear, with a gorgeous turquoise hue. Also, you'll be able to see the differences in depth as you're looking over the water, so focus on the spots where light meets a deeper shade of blue. Good luck! HD

RIGHT ON. That's a post that really hits home! We should book mark this one. Better yet, have a section on the board dedicated to threads like these, so that we may retrieve them easier for future reference. Roy! What about a tips and techniques section? This should be the first post to be saved here. Thanks! HD

Things That DO SCARE Me When Fishing!!
highdrifter replied to FishHeadRic's topic in General Discussion
YOWSAH that's totally wild! Looks like you sought shelter in the nick of time. I wonder though, if you were getting pulled by a giant striper towards such impending doom, would you break him off and turn back?! Anybody reporting bunker on their front lawns??! Right-on brotha. You'll be swishing in 20 foot swells after that one. Piece of Cake. cheers HD -
Awesome.. I remember my time spent on that water like it was yesterday!! I was never the same after that.. Wicked report Brah. Just wondering though. How far where you from whitefish bay? I know the area a little bit from when I was hired as a guide for Tomahawk during college, Dog Bone Reef in particular (available on a hydrograph) where I mostly took the customers who wanted walleye.. Thanks for sharing that! HD

Uncle Rico! Don't listen to snatch, he couldn't find bass with dynamite.. Good to see ya again brah! I'm kicking myself for not making the extra effort to come up to see ya. In time dude, in time. Awesome pics and report. We miss you up here.. keep in touch HD Oh and PM me your numba again!

Holly Shnikes I hope you didn't pull those fish from the harbour. Not only are the ressources limited, but the accumulative toxins would be high in the larger fish. I'm talking HARD metals here man. I can only think of one time of the year where the flesh of these fish would be eadible, and that's at ice out, when the fish are about to spawn. I understand that the law allows to keep them, but from the harbour, I'd let them go! dang I'm feeling queezy just thinking about it. HD

Go for the specks! Hey, did you get my last PM?? HD

Good luck HH! Even if the fishing is not so good (I'm sure it will be), you'll have a blast. And if the heavens open up and the snow comes down a little early, at least you'll have the portable DVD player... And Solopaddler, I'm sure you'll have great time as well. I know this, because I'm from New Liskeard! cheers guys! HD
