  1. What was the limit before it was 300 for sport and 15 for conservation?
  2. Get yourself a Wireless Trolling Motor on the bow, then you can use the wireless foot pedal anywhere in the boat. Dirk
  3. I was recently discussing this topic about Navionics for iPhone with a friend and he told me that if your iPhone is jailbroken, you can add an external Bluetooth GPS so you can get a much more accurate position fix. I had a 2G iPhone but recently bought a new 3GS iPhone and I refuse to jailbreak as I was tired of always rebooting and nuking it when something went wrong. If anyone wants the link, PM me as it is on another site. Apparantly the fix works great. Dirk
  4. I heard from friends that the Canada App is a waste of money. Lots of lakes missing. Not a lot of detail for Lake Ontario. Im curious if it has Simcoe, Scugog, Rice, etc...I would buy if it has Rice Lake for sure. I sent Navionics an email requesting a complete list before I purchase but they never got back to me so I guess I will not purchase at this point in time. Dirk
  5. This place in Ajx has an indoor park with lots of fun stuff for dogs to do. http://www.whoswalkingwho.net/index.html Dirk
  6. Right and Martens was runner-up in 02.

  8. I do, everytime I post, I don't blurr backgrounds and I say the body of water I am on. I am not asking for a GPS coordinate nor am I even asking for the body of water. I just dont get the resoning behind taking the time to modify a picture prior to posting a report. I think its arrogant and childish. It's almost like bragging like a child saying, HAHA, I caught a bigger fish then you. I would just like to know what you get out of hiding the background? In future take pics with your back to something less noticeable, or just say you went fishing and you caught an "X'' inch FISH. If I ever resort to blurring backgounds, a few things will happen. First I will stop fishing all together and I think I will move into the woods and become a recluse like Ted Kaczynski. I will live a life of solitude and play SOLITAIRE, that way no body will know where I am and what I am doing. Dirk
  9. Nice looking Pike! Congrats...... Dirk
  10. If I can remember correctly your last post said you were on Simcoe. Last time I checked it is a large body of water. More people that go ice fishing on Simcoe are targeting Lakers, Whitefish and Perch and occasionally they will hook into a Pike by accident, I am also sure there are some targetting Pike like yourself. So my question is this, why blur the background? Thought this was a board to encourage fishing and help others. What is the purpose of hiding a location? You will probably say you don't want 50 others there next time your out, which makes sense, but I just don't get it. It's kind of arrogant if you ask me. Dirk
  11. Try this place in Whitby, they may have what you are looking for: Novaflex Hose 119 Consumers Drive 905-666-4970 OR SIMCOE Bait & Tackle - Belle Ewart 705-456-8745 Dirk
  12. I bought a brand new LEGEND 16 Pro Sport SC at the end of the season last year from Harris Boat Works on Rice Lake and all I can tell you is this: First of all the boat is amazing for my needs. I am not a tournament angler so the boat has more then what I need for fishing up at my cottage and also it is easily trailerable to Simcoe, etc.....Has a fish finder, live well, rod holders, casting deck, etc. I have also since added a Motor Guide Wireless trolling motor to the bow. I got mine with a 20 four stroke and it is fast enought when I am fishing by myself, however if you take a couple of people with you it is slow and sluggish but I like to relax when on the water and I will get to a spot when I get there. It is quiet and very fuel efficient. Never had a problem with it yet. It is as easy as turn key gets as long as you maintain it properly and winterize. Secondly, I can't say enough about Harris Boat Works. Jim, Jay and the boys run an amazing operation and they are very knowledgable and friendly, that includes not only the sales guys, but the mechanics and everyone there. They take the time to explain everything and they answer all your questions thouroughly. I have since been back to make another major purchase and they go above and beyond when it comes to customer service. I highly recommend both LEGEND and Harris Boat Works. If you have any questions, just ask or PM..... Dirk
  13. Im in even if one of my favourite drivers made the jump to NASCAR. Dirk
  14. http://www.twincedarsricelake.com/contact.htm http://www.elmhirst.com/ Heres a couple on Rice Lake Dirk
  15. Having the rods hang from the ceiling was great, nothing to hold and yes very super sensitive. You could see the slightest movement in the tip. Mind you, I wasn't always paying attention but pretty easy to pull the line up. Dirk
  16. I have 3 pairs of Bolle with different coloured lenses and they all work great in different conditions. Best pairs I have ever owned. Dirk
  17. The last time I went ice fishing was probably close to 20 years ago with my brother and back then I remember being in University and drinking beer and not putting so much emphasis towards the fishing. Well a lot has changed in that time and I was lucky enough to go out with my buddy Shawn for some ice fishing on Scugog yesterday. He was confident leading up to our outing and said that we would be hooking into some Slabs for sure but to be patient and to tell the wife, not to wait up. He caught his limit 2 days in a row leading up to our outing so I was getting really excited. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 This is the point where he drove his truck and trailer onto the ice. One of the first things he mentioned was, "you might want to roll the window down", I thought that was pretty funny for about 1 second, then realized what its like to be an Ice Road Trucker.....lol We got to where he had his hut and we moved it to a different location. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 This next photo shows the general area we were in, he said it was out in front of Goreskis and it was pretty quiet, but people just kept coming out by the car and truck load. By the end of the night it was pretty busy. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 After the hut was secured in the new location, he started drilling holes with his 10" auger. One think I noticed and learned yesterday was that if I am going to take up ice fishing I will certainly have a gas auger. Also Shawn does not use electronics, no fish finders or flashers. I did see guys out on the ice with flashers and it was neat to see how they worked. One guy was nice enough to show and tell me exactly what was going on. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 After getting the rods set up, I was expecting to hold them and jig up and down like the guys out on the ice were doing but he rigged them from the ceiling so we didnt even have to hold them. Said when the Crappie start to hit, that you would see the line get pulled sideways. We were using a simple setup, small jig head with minnows hooked through the tail. Each line had a lower minnow and a upper minnow, so essentially 2 hooks on the line, hope that is legal. We were in 7-8 FOW and 2-3 Feet down. By diggyj at 2010-02-01 Let me tell you theres nothing like being in a hut with a heater, cause the wind picked up and I kind of felt bad for some of the brave souls out there. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 We started fishing around 3pm and at first we were getting tiny perch, managed to catch a few, no keepers though. I was asking where the Crappie were and he said that the will come later. So patiently we fought of the perch and tried to save our minnows. Sure enough just like he said, a couple of hours later they started to move in and the perch were gone. Here is one of the first ones that I caught. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 Man was I happy. By diggyj at 2010-02-01 By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 My pile beginning to grow. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 Just before we were going to shut it down I see my line go sideways and I managed to catch the biggest one of the night. It was my PB 14", 1 lb 12 ozs. By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2010-02-01 Here are a few lined up. I had an amazing time and will definately be out again. Not sure if Shawn is a fish god or just has more luck. He was landing way more fish then me, he was able to see the subtle movement in the line. I really needed to visually see the line move a lot to catch them but he seemed to detect even the subtle movements. Have the time I wasn't paying attention and he would say fish on. By the end of the night, I was much better at it and it felt good to land a couple of big ones. I went home with 16 Crappie and one perch from Shawn and he ended up with a limit. I always remeber it being like this whenever we get out on the soft water together. Got them all fileted and having a fish fry tonight. Things I learned, get a hut and a gas auger, if you are going to be serious about it, other then that it was pretty simple. However if I was doing it by myself I probably would have had the hut in a completely wrong section where there were no Crappie. Dirk
  18. Went last year and found it to be quite lame. Not that many great deals. Too small, won't be going this year, will wait for the big show. Dirk
  19. You guys are lucky, I'm still waiting for last years subscription to ESOX angler to arrive. Dirk
  20. Mine still is....$100.... safety equipment included, as well as gas, fish finder, wireless trolling motor, live well. Dirk
  21. Shimano Citica 200E, great reel at a decent price. Have 2 of them and very happy with the quailty of it, overall a great product and easy to land all types of fish. I have caught bass, walleye, pike and musky with it. Dirk
  22. Thanks Greg, as always very useful information. I caught a Perch on Rice last week that also looked similar in colour to the one in your pic. Had none of the distinctive black vertical marks, I wish I took a pic. Cheers. Dirk
  23. Awsome job Larry, if you aren't catching monster Muskies then it's huge Bass. Job well done. Have you figured out yet if you fish out of a musky boat or a bass boat? You can't have both or is one in disguise...lol Dirk
