  1. This twit was the Energy Minister and then the Transportation Minister most recently. Get people into these postions that know something about NR. Dirk
  2. The weekend was not bad weather wise, it rained on and off, some thunder and lightning accompained with sunny breaks and warm spells. Friday night my neighbour Mark and I decided to cast off of my dock using various methods. I went to my trusty Arbogast Jitterbug in the Frog/White Belly colour and Mark was changing lures so fast I wasn't sure what he had on. After about 30 minutes or see, I hear a small bubble sound and I immediately realize there is something decent on so i set the hook and the battle ensued. The noise was hard to describe, almost like the fish is inhaling the lure and water at the same time. So I reel in and once again it was pitch black and I hollered at Mark to grab the net. The battle was over pretty quick and I was able to hoist the beast on 30# PP up onto the dock. I could see exactly how big it was and thought it was going to be close to the 21" beast I caught a few weeks ago. Having Mark there was a definate help as we got the weight and measurement very quickly and he snapped 2 decent shots that I was able to trim right on the camera for a closer shot. After all was said and down this monster Smallie measured 19" and weighed exactly 4 lbs on the nose. I can't believe this isn't my PB.......... for most people it might have been. She was released right away. Dirk By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2009-10-05 By diggyj, shot with DSC-S730 at 2009-10-05
  3. Keep an eye on the reel and lubricate it frequently as they have been known to develop some serious sqeaking problems. Dirk
  4. Best place to rent on Rice is off of me...... Dirk
  5. I find that the bassresource calculator inflates the weight as compared to many others, including the one found on the OFAH website. The bass I caught earlier this year according to the measurements would be an extra 1.2 lbs using theirs. Is that why you use theirs? Dirk
  6. Hoegaarden or Rickards White or any other Wheat Beer, especially in the summer. Beats all te Canadian and American crap. Dirk
  7. Yes i saw that boat, here is a better pic of it. I talked to the guy and he is a new cottage owner, bought that place a couple of weeks ago, he just boat the boat at Harris Boat Works and didn't take it out of the water high enough on his lift and therefore the backend sank and got flooded a bit. He tried starting it but it wouldn't. Needs the Harris mechanic to come out now. Newbie cottage and boat owners always get into trouble at some point. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-09-14 I spooked that same beaver last week as he was pullling some large grass across the river. I am a couple of doors down from there, drop by some time and say hello and have a cold one. Dirk
  8. Have a great time Cliff. Don't work to hard, catch lots of fish, but most of all, be safe. That part of the world can be dicey at times. Cheers. Dirk
  9. I would say between 5-6.5 lbs. Great catch, awsome job. Dirk
  10. Well I finally had a weekend to myself at the cottage so I packed up the car and headed up with the dog on Friday afternoon. My goal was to get in as much fishing as possible. I am sad to say that over the course of the weekend, I only got out fishing twice for a total of about 3 hours. I also got out onto the lake to watch some of this weekends POKER RUN action. What a blast watching those boats from your own boat close by in the water. The weather was amazing all weekend and as usual it included some work around the cottage as well as many cold pops. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-09-13 A spectacular Friday night sunset. First baby Walleye came jigging off the dock with a jighead and white grub. Nice to see some of the spawners have laid eggs and that they have survived the influx of gobies and other fish over the years. Anyone know how many years old this one would be? Around 8-10 inches. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-09-13 Saturday morning I managed to catch 2 smallies in the 2+ lb range in 9-15 FOW using a white grub on a jighead. Was hoping for some Walleyes around this particular weedline but only managed a couple of smallies. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-09-13 Next one came a short time later on the same white grub. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-09-13 I spent Saturday doing odds and ends. Went into Cobourg and then went for a drive into Campbellford. Spent about $100 between the Choclate and Cheese factories in Campbellford, but man is there stuff ever good. Watched the POKER RUN head back from Hastings as I missed them when the first came through. There were some spectacular boats and it was an amazing site to see from so close in the water. Saturday early evening I tried fishing the OUSE for the first time. I was marking lots of fish and then I got to a certain spot where I was marking only a few fish, but they were big ones so I worked this spot trolling back and forth for a little over an hour. I was using Senkos in Bubblegum and a Brown with red/pink tail. I managed to catch 2 Rockbass and had a few misses. I also managed to get one SWEET Smallie onto the end of my line and I thought I gave it a good hook set, but as I reeled in and when it was a few feet away from the boat it swam towards me and I guess I lost line tension and the hook came out. I did see it clearly and it looked to be in the neighbourhood of about 4 lbs. I had to hoist it from about 9 FOW and it was coming out of some pretty thick slop. Maybe next time. So for about 3 hours of fishing I managed to catch 5 in total which has been better then no fishing at all in the last several weeks. Hoping to head up to Simcoe in the very near future for some Bass and Pike action. Dirk

  12. Was wondering if anyone knew of a Childrens Charity or other that would take used rods, reels and tackle? I would like to donate some stuff after cleaning out the boathouse. I have 5 complete rod/reel outfits, 5 reels and 2 full tackle boxes. I would like it to be a charity that helps kids learn to and get involved with fishing. Contact info appreciated. Dirk
  13. Looks like a great time was had by all. Some huge EYES, congrats to all of you. Cheers. Dirk
  14. Knowledge from locals is key. If you are hitting a new body of water ask the locals or any of the tackle shop owners. They should be able to give you some great advice since they have probably been fishing those waters for several years. Dirk
  15. Great report. I hate it to when people complain about crap going on in the boat. You sure that tinny was secure on the roof...LMAO How many pops did he have to get to that state? Dirk
  16. Don't give up, I'm sure there are some biguns' under that slop. thanks for the report, nice job! Dirk
  17. I think it is personal preference but I have been told by numerous people that it should go on the left side. I recently put mine on the left side. Dirk

  20. Was wondering if any of the board members have used any of the followng Taxidermists for mounting? Advanced, Woods & Water or Havelock? These are the only ones I know of that are local to where I am. Any thoughts on who to use and any other recommendations are appreciated. Thank you, Dirk
  21. I never wear my life jacket unless it is rough and choppy and I fear there is a chance to fall overboard while standing up or working the trolling motor. Common sense prevails for me. Dirk
  22. Sweet looking bass, good job. Will have to try the Hula Popper next time out. Tried the Jitterbug this weekend with some good results. Dirk
  23. Yes I would say that I would always use a baitcaster when throwing the Jitterbug. Haven't thrown it in a while but i like to cast it out there and cover some water. That way I can cast to each neighbours dock on either side of mine. Also if you happen to hook into a monster in the complete dark, you want to make sure you can bring them all the way in rather than break of with light tackle. Dirk
