  10. Headed up to the cottage on Wed afternoon and I was looking to get some fishing in as the weather was looking much better then the previous weekend. I started out on Wed night with SLAMMERS off the dock and the action was quite slow but then it turned on all of a sudden for a while and I was able to land a total of 3 walleyes. Here are a couple of the better ones. Once again all under the slot except one of them. After the bite went cold, I decided to put on a black Jitterbug as the water was quite calm. I had a few attempted splashes and bites but was only able to hookup with one of them. Thursday morning before heading out in the boat I was able to catch one off the dock on a SLAMMER. It was chewed up on the head from either an attempted attack or disease of some sort. I then headed out in the boat with one of the kids and the bite was pretty good. Was landing small ones of all kinds, all on SLAMMERS. I was able to catch and land one decent one and actually lost 2 much bigger HAWGS boatside due to inept netting and landind skills. That was it for Thursday. Didn't try at night as I was knackered. Friday morning I once again took numerous casts off the dock and I was able to land a few small ones. Headed out in the boat for a few hours and once again the SLAMMER bite was hot. Managed 3 keepers, 2 of which were decent but the disappointing part was that I once again lost a bigger fish right at the net yet again. I may just start landing theses by the lip instead of trying to hold a rod and a net. Yes I suck. After some down time, I took some more casts from the dock and I landed another decent Smallie on yet another SLAMMER. One thing I can say with confidence again is that SLAMMERS work like no other bait. Yes the were slow last week when the cold front went through but with some patience, these baits not only put fish in the boat but big or bigger then average fish. All of these fish, except the ones caught from the dock were caught in my two favourite stretchs in 10-12 FOW just outside of a well defined weedline. SLAMMER colour of choice was either 210 or 213. Dirk
  11. Yes it is.
  12. You are a Muskie king.....Hope to hook into one on Rice this year, but I am a newbie so probably won't happen. Dirk

  14. Once again this weekend was full of family stuff and entertaining friends so fishing was going to be at a bare minimum. I made it out on Sunday for the first time and I headed out with my friends son Josh for a couple of hours of fishing. We were on the water from 10:30am until 1pm and I managed to catch 2 Smallies and 1 Walleye. Once again the Walleye was under the slot and the Smallies were in the 2 lb range. Again they were caught on my hot stretch of shore, just off shore in 10-12 FOW. SLAMMERS were once again the ticket. Then on holiday Monday Josh and I went out again for a couple of hours. This time we were out from about 11am until 1pm. We were on the same track as the previous day when I feel my rod go down, I set the hook and line starts peeling off. I immediately tell him to get the net and be ready. As I am fighting the fish I am barking orders at him due to his boneheaded move the previous week where he thought he would show me how to land a fish by yanking on my rod and thus pulling the hook and line completely out of the fish. I saw it under the surface and it jumped once completely out of the water and we were both excited as it was a bigger then average fish. I must say he did a good job and he was able to net the Smallie with no problems. It measured 18" and tipped the scale at 4.25 lbs. I caught this one on 8 lb test on a medium light 6 foot Shimano BIS-60MLB2 rod. The new rod I bought at CT last week to replace the one Josh had in fact broke on one of the previous weekends. After coming up dry and reaching the end of track, I tried a new stretch of shoreline. We were just outside the weedline in 10-12 FOW and shortly after that, I land another Smallie. Another small one in the high 1 lb range, maybe 2 lbs. As we proceed down the shoreline sometime later once again, my rod tip bends and I set the hook and line once again peels off the reel. This time I was armed with 10 lb test on my Shimano Convergence CVS-70M-2A rod. I fight it for some time adjusting the drag once or twice and once again Josh was armed with the net and we knew it was big as it surfaced a few times but this one did not jump out of the water. He once again landed it beautifully due to the fact he was listening for a change. This one was bigger then the first. It measured 19" and tipped the scale at 4.7 lbs. What a difference in the colours. Again caught on a SLAMMER. If you have never tried theses baits, I highly recommend them. They have produced Smallies like no other bait I have ever tried. Colour seems to be key. The entire time Josh did not catch anything. He was also dropshotting but he was using a SLAMMER in a different colour. He was getting mad and wanted to change to my colour. So he did and a few minutes later he managed to land a 3+ lber. Not bad. It was my turn to be the net guy. 2 dwarfing the one Josh caught, for comparison. All in all we enjoyed our fishing adventures. He also managed to catch 1 Goby and 1 other fish which I wasn't sure what it was. Herring or shad of some kind. First one I have seen in Rice Lake. Hope it wasn't the invasive Rudd. Enjoy the pics. We took a bunch but they were in livewell and all were released unharmed. Dirk
  15. Keep this in mind....... Trolling motors are one of the best inventions for today’s angler. But, if you have your motor cranked up to 100% you are definitely turning the odds in the fish’s favor. Electric trolling motors were designed to run on a slow but constant speed. Not a bone jarring, on-and-off approach. I very rarely run my Minn Kota Maxum at over 30%. Slow your motor down and you will speed up your success....Dave Mercer
  16. Have caught a bunch but they are in the 12-14 inch range. Havn't caught one slot sizer yet, although I haven't targeted them. Im a bass guy. Dirk
  17. For a 16 foot I'd say a 45 lb thrust bow mount, 12V is enough power for you. Get a decent battery like an Interstae and you won't have any complaints. On board charger also isn't required, get a nice Nautilus charger from CT and you are good to go, just charge before you hit the water. Thats all I have for my boat and it suits me just fine. Dirk
  18. A few of the stores I went to last week were already sold out. Some instock have missing plastic on the guides, maybe get it for less then $40. I did find a 6 footer though. Nice lightweight rod, used it for smallies last week. Great fight. Dirk
  19. What do you recommend Jim? Dirk
  20. My 2 year old Shepherd BEAR...........
  21. I would like to share some pics of the fish that I have caught over the past few weeks. Most of the fish have come dropshotting either a SLAMMER Smoke Shiner or a Gulp Minnow 4 or 5" in Smelt colour. Enjoy Some fungus or disease on this one. Unfortunate hookset on this one, small amount of blood. Dirk
  22. SLAMMERS ftw!
  23. Last night I tried to work my Motor Guide Wireless Trolling Motor but it did not work. The battery is fully charged and when push the test button, it in fact shows a full charge. Foot pedal would not turn it on. I changed the CR2032 battery in the pedal and still nothing. When I hook the cable to the battery terminal sometimes I get a long beep other times nothing and other times it sounds like the motor is going. I saw thar it says in the manual that you can reset code and put a new one in. I tried to reset it but I didn't hear the beep and in all likely hood I did it incorrectly as it was dark. There is also a breaker attached to the positive terminal. Could the breaker by garbage? I have not tried that yet. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you. Dirk
  24. I would recoomend just buying a new one. They are like $15 dollars and at least you know it will work and heat up your water. I have never cleaned mine because they were so corroded, rusted and mangled it wasn't salvagable. Dirk
